Russian Billionaire’s $793 Million Superyacht Seized By Italian Government Andrey Melnichenko has become the latest victim of the new EU sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine after the seizure of his €530 million (AU$793 million) Sailing Yacht A off the Italian coast. At approximately 143 metres, Sailing Yacht A is the world’s largest motor yacht; designed by Frenchman Phillippe Starck with a radical exterior that almost resembles a military ship or submarine (as opposed to your more “basic” megayacht). Notable features include 91-metre masts, an underwater observation area and swimming pool spanning across eight decks, and a total tonnage exceeding 12,000. In other words, the boat has everything you could possibly need to ball out in the Mediterranean. Or ball out on any major body of water, for that matter. The $793 million nautical toy is currently being stored in the city of Trieste after Italian authorities seized Melnichenko’s vessel in the Adriatic sea. Melnichenko, 50, is a successful Russian businessman who made his US$12 billion (AU$16.2 billion) fortune as a major shareholder in the fertiliser company, Eurochem. He also owns and runs SUEK, Russia’s largest coal supplier. The European Union’s Freeze-&-Seize task force targeted Melnichenko after identifying him as a key member in the Putin administration’s financial aid. In justifying their decision, a member of the EU Council stated that Melnichenko “belongs to the most influential circle of Russian businesspeople with close connections to the Russian government.” ... I took this in 2014 -- San Francisco Bay.

My bad, the seized yacht was Sailing Yacht A. The yacht in your pictures is the Motor Yacht A, also owned by Andrey Melnichenko. I should have clued into that fact when the quoted article talked about 91m masts. Last recorded position of Motor Yacht A was in the Arabian Sea on 5 March (link). Probably turned off their location beacon at that time to avoid having that yacht seized as well.

On this particular trip we drove south from Ratchaburi to Ban Krut. Beautiful spot on the coast with an extra garish temple to visit...

Dunno if you passed this place Laz ?? It's built right on the beach along that stretch of coastline, but i can't recall exactly where, maybe a tad further south ?? But i would love to know the history behind it....
SteveBC
This is an interesting Temple, built on an island in the middle of a large lake not far west of Korat. For an idea of the huge size of the place, note how small the people appear on the walkway to the entrance. 3

SteveBC
Sang Chiang waterfall, north east of Ubon. It is the most eastern point of Thailand. As you see the water emerges from a hole in an overhanging cliff and falls into a shallow lagoon... 1080p.mp4 Edited May 3, 2022 by SteveBC 4

Ban Krut was one of my stops on the way south when I lived in Krabi (Koh Lanta). Wished I had more time to explore some of the out of the way coast "resort" areas, but the trip was long enough as it was. Used to stop and stay in Cha-Am, Prachuap, and Kao Sok...then maybe Krabi town or Trang...before heading to home on the island. These pics were taken a few years later on a family holiday road trip.
SteveBC
The local taxis in Trang town, much the same as in Ayutthaya. I love Trang, a very old and still original town with many wooden houses and buildings.

Yesitisdakid
One has to wonder just how effective this sign would be too drying in business it's at the very top of this building. I have zoomed in on it as well. Even when the lot that they're building on in front of it was empty I can't see this sign drawing any business crazy.

Yesitisdakid
These photos are of the abandoned reggae Pub and Bar here in Koh Samui I bribed the security guard 100 baht to let me get in and take some photos. The road leading up to this place has about 15 beer bars all have been closed since covid really destroyed this area. 4 2
