Uncle invited Mom & I for an awesome breakfast brunch downtown yesterday. Was a great time, got there at 9 am sharp, finished at 11, talked in the lobby for 3 hours, then hit a happy hour 3 floors underground. Mom & I then proceeded to return to our car in the newly opened “REM” train, a revolutionary LRT project that opened 2 weeks ago. Our area of the city was the first to be opened, only 5 stops out a planned 26 have been opened.. $7B CAD already with countless delays, you know the Mafia and other corrupt officials pocketed some of that…… Anyway, the Fairmount Queen Elizabeth was always considered one of the swankiest hotels in MTL, the food and the property in its entirety did not disappoint. Lots of top ladies coming & going, and I’m sure a few were “short-timers”……couldn’t have 100% been tourists. And as many times as I’ve driven/walked by this area, it was my first time exiting Bonaventure Station, which unbeknownst to me is the the true transportation hub of my city…..in the same place, you can take the METRO, grab a VIA train to Toronto, and now take the REM LRT to my area, the South Shore- Funny fact, the suburb where we exit is Brossard, and its sections are all by letter-our station-Panama- is in P evidently, and it’s street address is Philippines 🇵🇭 😂😂😂 as shown. BTW, I did a video and it came in under 8 minutes from DT to Panama, which can take 10 minutes at midnight on a Monday, but has been known to take an hour too in rush-hour. The bridge I filmed from, Samuel-de-Champlain, was just torn down and opened in 2019 at another $5B plus…..An expensive decade for my area it will be! As well, the whole underground tunnel system puts the Capone bootlegging days to shame, it is extensive, and the first time I’ve used it at 47! Just be warned though, we were in a bit of a rush getting there for 9 am, so we simply walked outdoors…..the station to the hotel is maybe the longest 1/4 mile I’ve walked…..steeply uphill, preceded by many steps inside the METRO…..Mom is in great health at 76 but not impressed….Our transit is NOT exactly sympathetic to the handicapped….So rain or shine, just use the tunnel! Much flatter! Uncle footed the tab as always, the Saudis treated him good for 15 years, but for those interested, I believe breakfast was $39 including most juices & made-to-order Eggs Benedict….what a little over £20? Groupon, who I hadn’t used since way before then, well I decided to peruse their site & the first deal that came up was $245 in value for $60…..Little bit misleading, but still a steal….year of membership, $45 cash card for store, $40 off a $250+ purchase online, and $100 off travel, which apparently has the best prices out there-if you believe the Moroccan girl where I signed up after buying the Groupon 😂 So after getting my card Friday & walking around but not buying anything- queues were horrible-went back tonight. You have to know what is worth buying, and unless you have a fast metabolism, pay attention to serving sizes…..if you save 25% per portion but end up eating 4x as much…..you ain’t saving ! Meat looked very good quality and freshness/packaging, prices not as good as my local market’s super specials, but for everyday I think Costco is hard to beat. Gas is about 7% cheaper, so if you fill up religiously you can figure out yourselves the yearly savings. Cereal, which I don’t eat much but like sex I miss very much if there’s none in the house…..very cheap….Mini-wheats $8 CAD for 1.6Kg, these days since labour shortage I’ve seen $7 for 1/4 the size Honey, pickles, pasta sauce, Thai chili sauce….bigger sizes but cannot tell if worth it. The big Häagen-Dazs bars that are usually $8/3….$14.50/9, can’t beat that. Bounty towels-the quicker picker upper-$22/12, or about $1.25 USD/roll-also good. They sell booze, again not as cheap as local specials, but Corona bottles $39/28, Heineken 330mL cans $60/48……..I’ve seen worse! These Peruvian Hass avocados were $8 for 5…..sometimes I get a dozen for $11 but as the ladies always say….size matter, and I have some pretty big mitts. Anxious to eat these I shall return, intend to fully use my membership, Mom is not a fan because way back in late 80’s Dad would buy insane quantities of frozen chicken nuggets, licorice, and cigarettes! 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
