  1. As today is mothers day and the Mrs wanted to eat in the garden because it's sunny and pleasant, I decided to opt for 2 salads and Salmon Larb , or at least my take on it, not strictly the same as the Thai version as less spice and I thinly sliced it as well. The Salads are basically Rocket and Spinach base with caramelised peaches which have been cooked in a honey caramel until soft. The remaining caramel is drizzled over the salad to add a balance of sweetness, with some red grapes, cherry tomatoes thrown in for good measure and a Burrata in the centre of one, which when broken adds more texture and flavour. The other Salad had the cheese left out for one of the girls who visited as she has an allergy. Lastly a store bought Ciabatta with an Olive oil / Basalmic vinegar mix.

  2. Lunch earlier was Bombay Potato, Pilau Rice, Italian Salad and Greek Flatbread. Not as much as it looks as the salad fills the plate.

  3. So, handed completed job application forms in, only had to fill in 17 of the 50+ forms they sent me. 🤣 They have all my ID pictures and stuff. Just completed the online application form from the company doing the DBS check, had to give them all my info plus permission for them to investigate me. Probably know I've been to Cambodia a couple of times and might be Gary Glitter in disguise. Well I've been a leader of a gang in the past. 🤣 What a fucking pallaver just to take motorbikes apart. 🤣 Gonna need a holiday to get over the stress of all this drama.

  4. The Oscar's have been a ratings disaster for the last several years thanks to all the "woke" Hollywood stars using the platform to spew their idiocy. People have grown tired of being lectured to. They just simply wanted to watch the show to see who wins. Having this moment happen between Will Smith and Chris Rock, a case of "black on black" crime one wit wrote online, will be the only thing talked about in the aftermath and all the winning performances will be overshadowed and forgotten. Smith should have just rolled with it, Rock's joke was pretty funny but tame. Having a Jerry Springer moment can almost be seen as a stunt to generate interest, but Smith's yelling out to Rock on stage after his love tap, clearly being heard throughout the venue by all in attendance, looks like it was very real. Gonna be some serious damage control being done in the next few days by the publicists and I think Rock just got a boost with this incident and now has new material to add a good 20 minutes to his stand up.

  8. The assaulted used to have much more class. Authors Norman Mailer and Gore Vidal had a long running spat, which culuminated in Mailer knocking Vidal to the ground. A still horizontal Vidal never a fan of Mailer's writing replied, "Norman, once again words have failed you." 😀

  10. A loophole has been closed and instead of 3 penalty points and a £60 quid fine or whatever it was, it is now up to 6 penalty points and up to £1000. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/transport-secretary-declares-zero-tolerance-for-phone-use-behind-the-wheel-as-law-changes-today I have used my phone before when driving, it is wrong and illegal, but I got away with it by not getting caught. However, from now on the phone will be in the boot where I can't get at it, and if it does ring then I need to stop somewhere to get it out anyway. I don't do much mileage, only very short trips, but for going to work etc it'll be well out of reach (even then it's only 20 or so minutes). Doesn't really worry me either to be truthful. At my place of work it's instant dismissal under gross misconduct if caught using a phone while operating machinery so if anything mine is always in my locker. I must say that I think it's a good thing, too many muppets on the road getting distracted these days.

  11. Y'know something mate...You can be the artistic director for our 2024 movie that I mentioned in an earlier post.... For the promotional posters may I suggest an anachronistic juxtaposition of Maggie Thatcher standing triumphantly atop the Aberfan school rubble with a bubble shouting "No free milk for you feckers!" Jeez, we are onto a winner here ..Get your speech prepared!!

  12. @Mr. Smooth I actually started watching it just before the incident, then until the end, then from the beginning. It’s clear there was an agenda there, with the Williams sisters and then a Beyonce performance. I don’t care if Will Smith was up for best actor for playing their father…..when was the last time time an athlete spoke at the Oscars? It’s out of place, at least historically. It’s not the ESPYS…. I also saw that Supporting Actress was awarded early on, and never even heard of the Black woman who won. Happy to see deaf man win for Coda, will be watching that soon. Anyway, this woke BS has gone too far, sadly there’s no turning back. Starting in 2024, the only Best Picture nominees that have a chance are those featuring minorities or gays???? WTF is that. Yes minorities were overlooked by the Academy many times, but now they are planning to award inferior performances, like affirmative action? Too much of a 180.

  19. I gotta add to this list something about movies NOT to watch. Without a doubt the most stupid ridiculous 'big' movie I have ever seen is 'Spiderman - No Way Home'. The fact that it is so highly rated by the teenagers tells me that my views are accurate. Are Movies going down the path of Music - IMO the answer is yes. More and more superficial content with the focus on style over substance. Despite the success of GOT and the occasional great movie, the fact is that teenagers go and watch a movie they like again and again and again. That is where the target market lies - and just like the music industry has for decades now, the movie industry is going down that path. Quality music is a very rare thing these days - movies are going down the same path.

  21. This is a recreation of a dish my mom made when I was a kid, Green Eggs & Ham ... named after the iconic Dr. Seuss book. It's actually a baked frittata, consisting of eggs, a lot green vegetables, cheese, mushrooms, onions, diced smoked ham and bacon. I used baby spinach, beet tops, celery, havarti cheese and basil in my version. My younger sister was an exceptionally picky eater and Greens Eggs & Ham was one of the few dishes she'd eat without a struggle. The name and connection to the Dr. Seuss book had a lot to do with it. If my mom had called it an omelet, I doubt my sister would have eaten it. I'd like to think my mom can up with the recipe, but I'm sure she got it from a women's magazine. Each portion packs a lot of nutrition that's especially good for picky eaters. Endless variations are possible. I like mine topped with shaved aged Parmesan, the real deal, from a block of imported Parmesan, not the shaker crap which doesn't deserve to be called Parmesan.

  24. I've put a little weight on but can still get in my 32 jeans 👖 With not working and being at home more and less active I've also been eating more in the day than I would when working. So should be back working in two weeks so can get back on my usual diet. The lunches I've been posting are usually weekend only, but become more regular being at home so much recently.

  25. I used to do them ('background checks") for a stint. Did them for about 2 years (among other things), it was something I would get assigned to from time to time. It's been over 25 years now since I have had to do one, so I'm sure things have changed. I am sure there are many different levels depending on the type of job, company that is doing them, etc. Basically there is a guide that you follow, interview people, records checks, credit checks, etc. etc. etc, If something pops up that may appear "questionable" then they (the investigator working the check) may contact you on a follow-up to give you an opportunity to present "clarification". Following that they will prepare a report and present it to your prospective employer who may or may not get input (feedback impression from the investigator). Often many things can be accepted or overlooked (depending what they are, how long ago, and of course your demeanor, honesty, etc.). The investigators feedback can in some cases be crucial in regards to that role in the hiring process. The bottom line.... if they really like you many things can be overlooked. Most jobs have probationary terms. If you have something questionable they can perhaps prepare language in your contract (or in some cases a side letter) which lays out conditions. This is placed in your file and those that are aware of the terms will probably be kept "confidential" (maybe only one or two people would be aware). In some cases once the term of probation is met you can ask (or it may even be automatic) where that letter or condition would be removed from the file (like it never existed). I have had two cases where I took a chance on some guys. In other words they could have been denied employment just on some things I discovered during the check. I liked both guys, and I took a chance with them. Basically I kind went with my gut and stuck my neck out a little (ultimately it is the hiring boss' responsibility though, not my decision). One of those guys I took a chance on turned out to be an "All Star" (one of the best guys I've ever worked with). The other guy turned into a complete disaster.... the guy was so f***d up he eventually got fired and years later committed suicide. I still sometimes wonder if I should have given him a break at the time. Something I will never know the answer to.

Compared to other world events right now though how the f**k is this news and just goes to prove how fake society is. I like Will as an actor though

  29. Managed to get on to my Finnair booking and, yes, all the flights have been changed for our departure in July. Now leaving Heathrow at 1810 instead of 0730 and connection is 1 hour 45 mins to a 0045 flight from Helsinki to Bangkok arriving 1645. Better still, the return is now 2130 instead of 0855 departure, again a great time giving us the whole day instead of waking up real early. Got 2 hours 10 mins connection in Helsinki with arrival Heathrow at 0910. Again great timing as I need to drive back to Wales so won't be home late. Never got an update but the schedule changes were shown on 'Manage My Booking' and it asked me to accept the changes which I did. Seat numbers have all been transferred and we all happy with the result.

  30. Interesting to read some of the comments on news reports about the slap heard around the world. Don't understand how some can think it's ok for an incident such as this to rise to the level deserving of a physical response. Here's one such comment with a reply that shows at least some understand what the appropriate response should have been.

  32. Well, there is our chance to make some money and become worldwide movie stars... Who has an 80s camcorder (Black and White of course) ? We can film each other in Pattaya's Sex City wearing cravats and tennis gear shaking hands with the locals in traditional farm clothes. Perhaps we could offer a Transgender Black American a banana and the final shot will be him grinning saying "Suck You Massa?" Fade away to "Blisters" from WAR, Deliver the Word.(One of my favourite albums!) Job Done!

  34. I can remember the days when I would turn the radio off when approaching an area that I had never driven in before so that I could concentrate on road signs, traffic, pedestrians and just keeping the car on the road. I have to say that drivers today seemed to have developed such a sense of arrogance that they think that everybody else should concentrate except them.

  35. Yep - Will Smith slapped Rock - and he deserved it. There was also a verbal exchange afterwards (sound stopped) and I dont think Will was saying kind words to him. Good to see - comedians insulting people for laughs should be held more accountable. I dont like Will Smith but I must say he has grown positively in my mind - good for him. Dune won many wards- and it deserved them. But it grossed almost $400 million less than the crap Spiderman - No Way Home rubbish. With the upcoming mandatory gender and woke crap, and the infantile audiences who actually pay to be in a movie theatre these days, have doomed the movies. The best film was a streaming movie - enough said.

  40. Never watched Black Panther or any Marvel franchise myself. I guess I’m just a weirdo too….. The way things are with the target market, as you say, actually caused me problems at my old condo the last few years. My cable company was giving me many free movie rentals for my loyalty, when they’re $7@ it’s better than no bonus at all. But when I was wondering what to watch that’s fairly new, and would scroll, say, “Top grossing films every year from 2017-2020”…..guess what comes up? Never one single drama/thriller/action flick, just Marvel or animated movies. Sometimes I ended up renting a film that wasn’t even in the Top 50 in receipts for that year……we all have different tastes

  41. Yeah the old Cow Palace, what a dump huh? Cannot believe how many shows I saw there....more then that, I cannot believe how many times I would sit on the pavement ( ok I did a few bong hits with friends) in the parking lot for 8-10 hours for the "general admission" shows there to be up close and personal. I thought I was a pro photographer with my Minolta SRT !01 with my 18-135MM lens. Few pics from that place... The Rolling Stones Kiss The Cars Pink Floyd Yes Journey Ten Years After Eric Clapton Chicago Seems like yesterday.......huh?
