  3. Took the wife and son to a fancy restaurant last week. Bill including drinks came to £225+ £15 tip Amouch bouch appetisers were Bellini and cream cheese and fried egg balls or something. Starters were Ham hock ravioli for son and I had Kedgeree with crab cakes. Homemade bread rolls and butter. Wife was saving herself so that she could eat a sweet. Wife had Gurnard in a foam white wine sauce main dish, son and I had sticky slow cooked beef with sweet mushrooms and stuff. Sweets were Coffee crème brûlée with coffee ice cream something and wife had Meringue and marmalade ice cream. I helped myself to both of their sweets with a spare spoon. Was it worth the price? IMO no it wasn’t. 😟

  4. I don't know whether to be shocked or laugh at those numbers!. Even at 85K per month, there's electric, consumables and wages on top of that. for a small 1/2 sized unit selling only booze and the occasional LD / barfine, and as you say, prices not yet established, even my useless mathematical skills are telling me that the nightly turnover needs to be considerable in order to sustain such a place. That's pushing £2k GBP per month rent for half a plywood constructed and cladded bar made to look like a shipping container (hardly an aesthetical masterpiece) with a couple of fridges, fans and a few stools thrown in for good measure. How anyone can look at this and think it's a good idea in the current pattaya climate now, or at anytime in the last 5 years really need to give their head a wobble.

  5. Our last night in the Monkey bar,met Steve from Korat Chef, they supply a lot of farang eateries in Thailand with bacon, sausages & all sorts of farang must haves.Nice guy. A pretty uneventful drive from Korat down to Jomtien today, stopped at the big services past Swampy for some veggie samosas from the really good Indian place there. The newly opened bit of the M6 from Korat to Saraburi is a big improvement, especially as so far it has neither toll booths or cameras. Condo is a bit on the cramped side but I'm sure we'll get used to it.

  16. Since we didn't have much of a cool season, and it seems the hot season has arrived early, I wouldn't bet against the next several months being brutally hot.

  22. Something I noticed in @Blue Streak's picture, there doesn't appear to be a separate entrance for the upstairs rooms. Wonder what they're using those rooms for now as I imagine that would be a non-starter for many that might consider renting a room there.

  24. In terms of Residence Certificate, that was the easy part for me. I went to the Immigration Office in Hua Hin with a passport offering a 30 day visa exempt entry and an Agoda Hotel Booking screenshot saying I was booked for 10 days. Didn't seem to faze the young immigration officer. Took 5 minutes to fill in the form at the office, leave my passport and return in two days. No charge, no problem. I was given the form when I arrived at the immigration office, but would be easy to pick one up and return with it filled in. Personally, my immigration officer was very helpful; I went there to ask whether I could get a residence certificate and 5 minutes later I was out of there after being told to return in 2 days. Just need to say what you want the residence certificate is for; in my (your case), renewal of driving licence.

  25. So we have booked an appointment at the Udon Thani DLT for 27th March 2024 to renew our expired 5 year driver's lincences. This gives us a day and a half to get the medical certificate and resident confirmation certficate from Immigration done. We have both done our online DLT tests. We pass a doctor on our way to the wife's village house so this will be done on the 25th when we leave the airport. For the resident confirmation certificate is there a form you can pre-fill out and is everything just done at the immigration office. Any information provided would be appreciated.

  27. Well, where I'm at is sitting in my home office which is at a comfortable temp, humidity and PM 2.5 levels. Of course outside is a different story. Definitely cooler in the shade and like a blast furnace of hot air when I was out earlier on my bike.

  29. I played pool in the Monkey Bar last night,I don't play a lot & I'm not very good but I think playing snooker helps with the bigger tables out here & I do have my moments. They have a knockout tournament on Sundays & the winners name goes up on the honours board.I played a guy last night whose name is up there five times as the leader in the winner stakes & I had the perfect game & seven balled him. Chuffed or what!

  32. 2010 I used to go diving in Puerto Galera, Philippines, catching the large banka ferry from Batangas, journey time about 80 minutes. The boat had bamboo outriggers, I always felt safe onboard, here is a genuine pic I took of the life vest onboard..
