I picked up her majesty late in the evening once from T3 Heathrow, after her flight home from Thailand and after putting her luggage into the car off the trolley, off we went along the M4 and then South on the M25 and joined the M3. After a few minutes on the M3 she reached around to the back seat to get her handbag and it wasn’t there. 😢f**k!!! It seems she’d left it on the handle of the trolley in the car park. f**k. SO, eventually turn off the M3 and get back on it going East and eventually after about 2 hours arrive back at T3 car park and we’re praying the trolley and handbag are still there. Of course they ain’t. PANIC as all her cards and passport + money are in it. She ran down to the security office and luckily someone had handed it in and left their name and address along with a phone number. Anyway, later, on the way home, she rang the number and spoke to the old lady to thank her. Then pretended to sleep for the next 3 hours so she didn’t have to listen to cuss her for her stupidity. 🤨 The next day, the wife arranged for a big food hamper and a case of wine delivered to her as a thank you and feckin paid with it on my card. 🤬 Women!!!10 points

It's that time of year again left this morning got to Bangkok Bank at 8:30 just as they were opening by 8:40 I had my passbook updated letter showing my balance and now they need a 3-month letter showing activity in the past 3 months. In any event 10 minutes in 10 minutes out. Walked to Maneerat I walked in to a chorus of Hello Larry. They're a good group there they never forget me I'm sure it has nothing to do with the croissants I drop them by on occasion 😁. The place was mobbed as I expected it to be as they were just coming back from a week-long holiday. When Fon saw me she motioned me to the back and handled me right away no waiting which I didn't request or expect. I'm happy to wait my turn but she dealt with me right away. And then informed me I'd have to go down to immigration to get a photo taken she assured me there'd be no waiting and there wasn't the minute I got the immigration the photographer grabbed me took me in to the back office had me stand in front of desk 8 took my photo and I was gone less than 5 minutes. It's a pain in the ass going down there but if you got to do it you got to do it. She also told me not to expect it back before Thursday due to the amount of business they're handling at the moment. I really like it down there I've never had a single issue that they haven't been able to deal with they're always fast reliable and while I do think there are companies now that may do it a bit cheaper I just feel safe with them so until next year I'm okay. There are the guys that say why would you pay somebody to do it if you have the money in the bank you can do it yourself well I did do it myself a couple of times but the amount of time I had to wait down there it just wasn't worth it to me I'm one of those got more time than money guys but time is money so for the 8,000 Baht they charge ( using your own or 12500 if using their money) is in my opinion well worth it. Especially today it was an absolute madhouse down there Let me add that I got my exercise for the day I did all of this on foot including walking from the agent all the way down to the immigration but I did take a bolt back because I was beat long walk9 points

^^^^^ Good on you for making someone's day and good on them for being honest. Karma works both ways and has done so in this case. Don't give your good lady too much of a hard time, it can happen to all of us when tired and exhausted.Props to you as well for handling an extra 5+ hours to your journey. Sometimes life throws us a curveball and in your case, all has worked out very well for everyone , apart from the poor bugger having to drive!. It could have been so much worse, all things considered.9 points

Well that went really well,we had no means of communication as she didn't have her UK sim card so I gave it about 50 mins after landing & drove the 32 miles to T4,parked in the short stay & when I went into the terminal she was standing right in front of me.I think she landed at 2010 & we were in the house at 2200. And as a bonus she bought a twinpack of Black Bush😃!5 points

I agree 100% about Maneerat.....Not only are they super nice but they get the job done...They know their stuff...No BS ever.....I have been using them for about 10 years now.....I will be sticking with them for a looooog time to come... They do a smashing business there.... One time I saw a box they had all the passports in.....There had to of been close to 200 passports in the box....And that was just on that one day....Plus they operate with minimal overhead costs unlike a bar or restaurant.... They deserve to do good they do a great job and take care of the customers...4 points

Seems to be required, whichever renewal method is used (I'm sure the same for all other agents), that a visit to immigration for that pic is necessary. But as you say, it's quick. I always walk in the exit, usually a security guy there and when he sees your yellow tab he takes you to desk 8. In and out, no waiting. I concur about Maneerat, they're excellent and do remember people.3 points

I windsurfed for awhile. One of my local 'go to' spots was Half Moon Bay south of San Francisco. Friends who lived there (who knew fishermen) told me to watch out for sharks. Never saw one. I saw dolphins gliding in waves with surfers in west Malibu, California. I used to stay at a house there overlooking the ocean. Beautiful part of the world. . . . Here's a Killer Whale and her calf that I photographed at Monterey Bay, California (2017). . . .3 points

It's their ocean, right..? 😉 I think the novelty here ("amazing") is it's from a final round at a recent WSL Championship tour event. Best competitive surfers in the world. (See min 2:30 in the vdo below.) . . .3 points

Yep. She moved out of there around Covid time and freelanced in Boomerang Bar then moved back. Tried to get a donation from me by saying that her English husband was knocking her around a bit. That really was a damned good bar back in the days of the Malibu Bar opposite with the stage and shows ....3 points

In a search for a high res shot of this I found this YT video of another similar encounter. I also saw numerous other pics of dolphins playing in the waves (link), so not as uncommon as one might imagine.3 points

Not Thailand but Indonesia although I'd be surprised if they don't do something similar in Thailand. In Thailand they would probably only need one motorcycle.3 points

I completely agree as well. I have only been using Maneerat for two years after receiving a recommendation from the late Striderman. Maneerat has their act together and are pleasant to deal with. I was even given a 1,000 discount on the initial Non-Im O application for having my paperwork all filled out and well organized. I had been on a Non-Im OA (long story), so I did a border run to kill the OA and then reapply for an O. The Mrs. went with me the last time that I went to renew my Extension of Stay and after viewing the available entertainment options on soi Post Office (13/2), gave me a suspicious look. 🙂2 points

I remember it well. They also served very good cocktails in the Malibu Bar. My memory of the place is sitting , watching the show with my Scottish mate Ray (nickname Romeo - he was a male model! )drinking cocktails like a couple of "swells" as he put it. Brilliant days they were.2 points

In my many years of windsurfing I never experienced sailing with dolphins. I did on a couple of occasions spot sharks just below the surface. What was incredible was night windsurfing when the sea bioluminescence was active. Couldn't find any windsurfing images, but plenty of surfing pics and video out there of amazing nature putting on a light show.2 points

Anytime my wife is anywhere near a duty free she gets me aftershaves that she thinks would make me smell nice.😘 Her trip back home to Thailand in August is bound to mean I’ll get a year’s supply of “smellies” as she calls them and several different perfumes for herself. 👍2 points

I met an American "can't talk about it" former serviceman yesterday afternoon in Udon. I was doing dad taxi so hadn't had a drink and TBH this guy was a loudmouth drunk. It was around 2pm. Even though we were sat on seperate tables, he insisted on trying to hold a conversation, or rather talk at me. Just so happened the 2 guys I went to meet were also from the States, one (you met him @boydeste) ex US armygreen of 25 years and the other although retired for 10 years, is/was the genuine article who really does not talk about his service to his country. So my 2 friends turn up and as soon as the wannabe heard the accents he invited himself to come and sit at our table. He lasted about 5 mins. It was like watching an interogation and I almost felt sorry for him when he realised how totally out of his depth and "out ranked" he was. They were brutal, no mercy whatsoever and he got found out and sent on his sorry way. I have had similar experiences with other fantasists in Thailand. Got to be honest and admit that I often don't care if they are telling or embelishing the truth as long as I am in the right mood and its a good story.2 points
