Acid Rain... :default_527:

"Department of Science Service Director General Rungrueng Kitpati warns on Tuesday people, particularly children and the elderly, should not expose themselves to rain in Bangkok at this time yet as it is acid rain, a result of the accumulation of pollution during the end of the cool and dry season. The warning came after netizens posted photos of white foams after the rain on pavements and roads over the past few days."

No doubt the smog has raised the ph of rain, and it's possible the yellowing of the tree leaves is the result. Another reason for the yellowing could be an accumulation of dirt and grime on the leaves that slowly kills the foliage.

Here's an explanation for foam on the trees.

What is that white foam that forms on trees when it rains?

Every time it rains, there is a white foam forming at the base of the tall big white oak and pine trees on our property… and it disappears when the rain stops. What is that?

The bubbles at the bottom of LaRoche’s trees are evidence of a “crude soap.”

Soap molecules require four basic elements:

So, how does this all happen at the base of a tree? These soapy components are readily available, simply drifting around in the air.
“Salts and acids and alkali substances [float] in the air, in dust,” explains Rebecca Roy, the manager of educational programming for Vermont State Parks. “When it’s dry, these particles are floating around and sticking to surfaces all over the place.”

Tree bark produces oils, which are drawn to the surface of the bark in warm, dry weather.

When it rains, these ingredients dissolve in the water and flow down the tree trunks. They start to bond chemically and create soap molecules. The rough surface of the bark helps to agitate the mixture — just like the friction created when you scrub a soapy dish in the sink — and by the time it gets to the bottom, the process has resulted in a little patch of soapy foam.

This is why metallic light poles in Thailand should be given a wide berth, especially when it's raining. Shame it takes someone getting electrocuted before the city will take corrective action. This pole is on 3rd Rd near the Klang intersection, so it's not like it's in an out of the way soi and easily overlooked.

THAI SURROGACY NETWORK LEADER ARRESTED FOR TRAFFICKING SPERM

NONTHABURI – Officers from the Crime Suppression Division apprehended the leader of a network that trafficked sperm across Thailand’s border into neighbouring countries. The sperm was utilised to impregnate Laotian and Cambodian women who served as surrogates for Chinese clients.

The suspect, 33-year-old Thiraphong Chaiyasuk, was arrested on February 24, 2024 outside his house in Nonthaburi province. He had been wanted on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the criminal court in 2022.

The investigation began in 2017 when Nong Khai customs officials intercepted a shipment of liquid nitrogen containing six frozen semen vials intended to be smuggled across the border into Laos. The investigation led to the discovery of a large network of Chinese investors who were hiring people to smuggle sperm into fertility clinics in Laos and Cambodia.

The sperm was used to fertilize eggs from Laotian or Cambodian women who were paid as surrogate mothers. The children resulting from these pregnancies had the nationality of the surrogate mother, which could be used by Chinese criminal groups to launder money.

The investigation revealed that Thiraphong was a member of the network and led the team that smuggled the semen across the border. He had been on the run since 2017 and was hiding in Nonthaburi province when he was arrested.

Thiraphong confessed to being a member of the network and said he was responsible for overseeing the team that transported the semen. He said he had been doing this since 2014 and that he transported about 100 vials of semen per trip. He was paid 10,000-15,000 baht per trip.

Thiraphong said the reason why the network does not work in Thailand is that it is difficult to get approval and the costs are high. In neighboring countries, the laws are more lax and the costs are lower.

Thiraphong was charged with using others to bring or take prohibited goods out of the kingdom without permission” and “using others to illegally import or export sperm, ova or embryos out of the kingdom."

I have that avoidance system wired in (no pun intended).

It took me a long time for it to become standard reflex, but now I will avoid like a fresh pile of dog shit.

So, Amazing Thailand!

There is a drought on here (no this isn't about Sonkran!) and the village water supply has dried up so we are getting a new hole drilled, 55ft downpipe, filter and pump installed.

Because the situation is widespread we have had to wait a week for the drilling truck to be available. As it has started to work nearer, I took the opportunity to monitor the process. They seemed to be scanning the required area before successfully drilling down..

...They arrived here about an hour ago to start scanning the 2 rai of land. Firstly it was the standard gift and praying to the spirits with jossticks and seesip degree ... but then they brought out the technical gear to start scanning ......Yep! You are ahead of me on this one, and you are right ...Two fucking water divining twigs!!

I came inside when M'Lady joined in with the chanting ..

That was a shocking incident that could have led to some tragic consequences.... Back in the 80s in NI we were issued with "jokers" that were supposed to monitor common frequencies used for remote bomb detonation but they made all sorts of weird noises that made them pretty much useless...

International Ladyboy gang fight...oh my..!

. . .

From: Khaosod English

A group of about twenty Filipino  transgenders have been surrounded by an angry mob of a hundred Thai transgenders at a hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 11 early Tuesday at 3.30am after an earlier rumble at 5am on Monday where the Thai side said they were taunted, given a middle finger, and attacked first - 20 Filipinos against four Thais and spread on social media in the Philippines, said a Thai source.

Police had to call for reinforcement to extricate some Filipino transgenders from the hotel to safety to Lumpini Police Station but not before the Thai mob  managed to physically attack some on their way out. Others are still trapped inside the hotel.

Fortunately nobody was killed in this incident. What baffles me is why they would dock a ship with an unexpended round in the barrel directly in line with another ship.

Frigate damaged by ammunition from another naval ship

A gun shot from HTMS Chonburi accidentally struck HTMS Khirirat on Thursday, causing a fire and injuring 13 soldiers. Both Thai navy vessels were anchored at Laem Thian Pier, Sattahip Naval Base, in Chon Buri province.

The incident took place at 11.50am when the naval gun shot discharged from the front gun of HTMS Chonburi hit the rear section of HTMS Khirirat.

Firefighters swiftly responded to control the blaze aboard the warship.

The Royal Thai Navy said 13 soldiers were injured, 10 of them in serious conditions.  According to media reports, many suffered from smoke inhalation.

An earlier report said three people were injured.

HTMS Chonburi had returned from a firing drill on Wednesday and had returned to the base for repairs, as one of its guns had malfunctioned during the operation, with an unexpended round still in its ported barrel.
