"A 45-year-old man died while waiting to file a police complaint about physical assault at Bang Khen police station on Thursday. The man carries no ID but a man claiming to work with him said he was a homeless man who used to work at a local car mechanic shop and was assaulted by the employer. The case is under investigation as of press time."

Tourist police check Soi Nana, Bangkok on Thursday evening to prove the case of a Chinese woman who made content that was released on social media, claiming that Soi Nana is hazardous for women.

As seen in the video, officials speak with local business owners, who acknowledge that Soi Nana is a popular tourist destination for both Thais and foreigners. It is less terrifying and dangerous.

Foreign visitors, Chinese, Europeans, and other nationals who visit Soi Nana were also interviewed by the police. They are all confident that the tourist police will keep them safe.

According to the police, anyone who witnesses any behaviours that are dangerous to tourists or take advantage of tourists can phone the 1155 hotline 24 hours a day.

Amazing Thailand! How to fck up something as simple as rebuilding a footpath.
PC130009.jpg

I'd like to meet the genius that thought it was a good idea to place the concrete block for the underground conduit smack dab in the middle of what little space remained on the footpath.
PC130011.jpg

I'm wondering why the project plan, if one exists, called for skipping the section in front of Mike's mall.
PC130003.jpg

Once they put the pavers in we'll have a flat surface to walk on, even around the trees. But motorbikes and trucks rolling over the unsupported bricks around the trees will make short work of the flat walking surface.

Heads completely inserted in rectums.

I've gotten the impression that the medical related teaching institutions over here are in good shape. But, they have a long way to go to improve their city planning and engineering ciriculums.

I'm not holding my breath.

Shame it takes is bad publicity for shoddy project planning of the footpath to get corrected.

The problem they're facing is trees need a certain amount of open surface area for the tree to survive. The boxes that are now around the tree are probably the minimum required. So the contractor talking about making them smaller will only result in the trees dying off in a year or two.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a chuckle over the last line in the article "the company said it was suspending trial service on the Pink Line for safety's sake". Like did they really think they could continue to operate the line with 5km's of the conductor rail missing. Amazing Thailand.

Pink Line conductor rail collapses in Nonthaburi

...
The incident happened at about 5am along Tiwanon Road in Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi. A 5km stretch of the metal rail fell from the elevated structure of the Pink Line from Chon Prathan market to Khae Rai intersection. Conductor rails normally supply power to electric trains.

Eyewitnesses were vendors who parked their vehicles on the road while arranging their merchandise at the market. They said they saw bolts fall first, and then the rail collapsed and hit their vehicles. The falling rail also snagged on a power pole, leaving it standing at an angle.
...
At noon the company said it was suspending trial service on the Pink Line for safety's sake. The Pink Line opened for trial service last month.

South Thailand -- "where safety goes to die."

. . .

Khaosod English

The "Bundaya 19" speedboat sank near Bu Bu Island (Sawang Island) in Satun Province on Sunday. Due to severe wind conditions, the boat hit the waves on its way from Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta. The boat's hull had a hole in the bottom, causing water to flood in swiftly.

The boat driver attempted to keep the boat steady close to Koh Lek so that the tourists could float on their own while waiting for the boat to rescue them. The officials assisted all 73 foreign tourists (70 adults and 3 children) and 4 crew members in securely disembarking at Koh Lipe.

"Land of Smiles" & occasional hoodwinks... 🙂

Correction: The Tourism Authority of Thailand has on its FB page wrongly cited old stats regarding Bangkok being the most visited city in the world in 2023. The data, originally from Mastercards' Global Destination Cities Index in fact was from the year 2019. #Thailand #WhatsHappeningInThailand #Bangkok

I have worked more of those cases than I care to remember (homeless guy beaten to death by one or more other homeless guys). Except none of them made to the station.

Very sad.

As we all know, maintenance is low priority here.

Unfortunately, as that system ages, we will see more incidents of this nature.

Rock on !  Always be aware. Always be prepared for shit to happen, because there is a high probability it will.

Think you missed the part the line has been open only one month. In this case it wasn't shoddy maintenance, but probably poor workmanship (surprise, surprise). Even worse, why didn't an inspection after the work was completed catch the faulty workmanship.

Unless it was poor engineering specifications in which case the problem wouldn't show up until the system was put into use.

Thanks for clarification on that mate. Good points.

There is an interconnected overall mindset associated, as you surely are aware.

Probably best for me not to say much more than that. But, you and most of the others in here know what I am talking about.

In the end it comes down to weighing the positives and negatives. Thus far the positives still win. And I reckon that's what it finally comes down to.

Cheers.
