Any clinic recommendations?

I've had a problem with my foot, long story, but a couple of pressure sores that won't heal and are actually getting worse.

I went to Bangkok hospital, they strapped up my foot and gave me a couple of sets of tablets and a follow-up booking 1 month ahead.

The sores got worse and are really painful and affecting my sleep as when I lay down, raise or lower the foot, stabbing pins and needles. Most pain free is standing up.

Went back to Bangkok hospital, they strapped it up again and gave me 3 new tablets, this was about a week ago.

Still no improvement. Can't believe they didn't give me a pennicillin shot or even a blood test.

It was a proper doctor I saw, the same one both times.

It's causing me big grief now, can't sleep and the sores aren't healing. My gf said you should go to a clinic, they're much better and the hospital just want to make money out of the drugs they prescribe.

There's a host of clinics in Pattaya, so was hoping one or some of you guys have had a good experience at one? There's one here in Jomtien (Chanya) and it was dreadful. Lady changed my dressing, so rough, poking the sores and seemed to be happy she was hurting me.

Any recommendations guys?

No personal experience.

Sounds like pressure sores (bed sores). Can require serious long term treatment. My best friend had them, he was parapeligic. Had to go to a specialized in patient clinic in Miami. If I recall he was in there for ten days to two weeks.

If you don't get them treated properly can lead to amputation or blood poisoning. You'll have to give up booze during the treatment.

Dr Oliver used to come highly recommended:

https://dr-olivier-clinic.com/

My Mrs has since "retired" from the NHS, but if you give me the list of drugs prescribed, any you're currently on and taking regularly (they never check these in Thai hospitals) I've had a brief word with her. She did initially say the cause needs to be known as it also can depend on the treatment given.

She said she needs to know:

- how long they've been present, how much worse they're getting (spreading / number) and time frame.

- If the surrounding redness is increasing noticeably (indicates spread of infection).

- Any fever / night sweats.

- Are they weeping or is a crust forming?.

- At which "stage" / grade are they? - have you been told? (ties in with the above - grade 3 or 4 need surgery)

- Do you have any comorbidities (high BP, circulation issues, heart / blood problems / diabetes* )

- Do you suffer from gout?.

* This is very important to know, as treatment for diabetics is much harder and more complex.

It might be that a dual method is needed, antibiotics are only usually given in there's already an infection,  along with a topical cream and treatment.

The reason they are dressed indicates they are already an open wound, this would be to prevent dirt and infection, however, regular dressings can also apply pressure which defeats the object of treating pressure sores. This is unless they were special dressings like hyper colloid, in which case they should have given you a few and shown you how to apply them.

Try to keep them uncovered while you're in a relatively "clean" area, but covered when going out. Keep the pressure off and allow them to remain open as much as possible, clean with a sterile saline solution three times a day, or if dirt enters the wound.

Try to keep the pressure off, even if it means slightly elevating using a cushion for as long as you can bear it.

Also, get some iodine from the pharma in case you injure the area (about 20 baht for a small plastic 50ml applicator bottle that fits in your pocket).

PM me anything you don't want to put here on the forum.

Excellent info. Takes a long time to properly heal.

Must follow the routine, otherwise will be a constant problem with serious potential for long term problems.

I was wondering if Dr Olivier's name was going to come up. I was going to put in a pre-emptive post. Too late now.

I did see Dr Olivier once and I was far from impressed.

I'd had a sore throat which was getting progressively worse. I first went to a Thai clinic who gave me a handful of antibiotics but the throat kept on getting worse. I finally got in to see Dr Olivier.

He had a 10 second look at my throat and gave me another handful of antibiotics, the same ones the Thai clinic had given me.

As these had had no effect and I had done my own research I suggested a different antibiotic.

"Oh no" he said, "those are far too strong, come back if there is no improvement."

"Tomorrow is the start of Songkran" I said.

"Yes" he said, "we are closed for a week."

Two days later I was in Pattaya Memorial on an intravenous antibiotic drip for about eight hours before they lanced the abscess in my throat and drained about 50ml of pus.

As previously posted, with foot/leg ulcers which fail to heal, the underlying cause needs to be established before treatment can begin.

I'd check out Bhumrangrad.

On their website you can filter doctors by their specialism and get a detailed record of their qualifications and experience.

I needed to see a shoulder specialist in Jan for some rehab. On their website I was able to narrow the search down to  3 specialists, all of whom had studied in the UK or the US.

The doctor I went with had specifically concertrated on shoulder injuries. She was excellent as was the physio I was then referred to.

I have been to Pattaya Memorial in the past, two times for serious upper respitory infection (once serious tonsilitis, once puenomia). Both incidents they did 3 days of drips. Went back for 3 days in a row, drips took about 30 minutes each time.

Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. Apologies for not coming back to this thread a bit earlier, but had my hands full with this.

I'm just about to leave my condo for Jomtien Hospital to have a procedure to clean the wounds.

Should I survive that, I'll come back and provide a full report on what happened.

If need be hire someone to come daily. Clean and change bandages, etc.

Heal those bad boys up.

 I agree with that recommendation.

Pattaya International wanted me in to operate on my left knee. I went To Bhumrangrad for a second opinion and the Consultant advised me that it would be about 10 years before I would need any operation.

The last time I saw Dr. Oliver I had to display my dick to him. After a close look he pronounced "Yeast infection" and charged me 800 baht for a 60baht tube of Canestan cream. 🤣

Quite a relief really as I had been away with the usual suspects to AC. Low risk from BJ's but you never know.

I went to the doctor with a runny dick and said to him “I think it’s got a cold doc” he said “OK, I’ll give it 30 seconds to sneeze, if it doesn’t, then you’ve got a dose of the clap”.

I’ll get me coat. 😟
