  5. Pork loin & pepper sauce in the Hideaway,a fantastic meal but not the best house red I've had in Thailand. Now I'm supposed to be meeting Brian for some beer,I feel stuffed.... Going home on Tuesday & one thing that's good about the UK is decent inexpensive wine,in fact it's Easter soon & all the supermarkets have 25% off of 6 bottles or more when it's a holiday. So I'll be doing some shopping.

  7. Mate sent me a picture of his afternoon drink today at the Centara Hotel, Hua Hin. I am envious, but also surprised that he paid only 115 baht for a small beer inclusive of ++. It was happy hour between 4-5.30 pm. Now I know you can get it cheaper, but a drink at a beautiful hotel like the Centara for that price is well worth the visit. He spent a relaxing 70 minutes at the hotel, they even offer up decent snacks to accompany the beer, no salted peanut crap. Pretty nice view as well.

  8. Went through Don Mueng domestic yesterday. There is a new drop off area for taxis where they have installed an escalator to allow you to get down to level 2 inside. Not seen that before. Check in with Air Asia was a breeze, as was security.

  15. Now waiting for the gas bottle delivery guy to come back. He left a few minutes ago after delivering a fresh bottle. While making the delivery my three dogs took off through the open gate to be with my lady who was a couple of houses down visiting with a friend. After the delivery guy left I walked down to see if she wanted to keep the dogs there and mentioned the gate was opened while the gas guy made a delivery. I had to laugh when she said what delivery, she hadn't called the gas company. Turns out the guy delivered to the wrong address, but I had just assumed my lady had called them and left to visit the neighbor knowing I could handle the delivery and payment. Thus I'm now waiting for him to come back and return our still partially full gas bottle, and the 460B I paid him.

  16. Too fucking true mate! To continue with the Lotus Eaters analogy mentioned earlier by @fygjam, I have lived a life of danger, adventure and travel. So much so that I make Odysseus look like a stay-at-home Mom !!! Time to live in the moment from now on ...

  26. A little backstory picked up from Forbes, July 2023. Shows in part just how much money the Tawadeng outlets must have made "Sathien Sathientham, whose $1.5 billion fortune stems largely from Carabao Dang, an energy drink named after a popular rock band, is getting into large-scale beer brewing. He’s investing 4 billion baht ($115 million) to build a factory in central Thailand with the aim of capturing 3% of the estimated 257-billion-baht domestic beer market in the first year of operations. The investment is being made through Tawandang Brewery, which Sathien established last year. The first batch of beer is expected by year-end and distribution will be through Bangkok-listed Carabao Group, the energy drink maker Sathien cofounded in 2002 with his pal, singer Yuenyong Opakul, who goes by the stage name of Aed Carabao, and business partner Nutchamai Thanombooncharoen (No. 38). Carabao will have “minimal risk distributing those products” because it’s standard practice for retailers to pay upfront for alcohol products, Romtham Sathientham, Sathien’s son and managing director of Carabao, says in a phone interview in June. “There’s also minimal incremental cost as we’ll be using the current sales structure,” he adds. But the new beer will face entrenched brands: Chang, brewed by liquor tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi (No. 3), and Leo and Singha, made by beer baron Santi Bhirombhakdi (No. 20). Sathien, who recently changed his surname from Setthasit to Sathientham, is also expanding his roughly 50%-owned grocery giant, CJ Express, where his oldest son, Veeratham, is CEO. The retailer added 300 outlets in 2022 for a total of 1,000; it plans to add 600 more by next year. Meanwhile, his daughter Tientham is managing director at TD Tawandang, which operates more than 5,000 Tookdee convenience stores. Earlier this year, almost 100 Tookdee partners (the stores are run on a profit-sharing basis with local associates) filed complaints with Thailand’s Trade Competition Commission. TD Tawandang did not respond to a request for a comment." https://www.forbes.com/sites/anuraghunathan/2023/07/05/thai-energy-drink-billionaire-adds-froth-to-beer-market/?sh=44c711396781

  34. We just spent 6 nights staying on Bui Vien St, our 3rd trip to Vietnam and HCMC. In Bui Vien the emphasis is on the street, and drinking rather than inside bars or gogo like in Pattaya. Businesses take over the sidewalk and road with tables/chairs to sell food and drinks. The noise level is huge with each venue competing for customers. Black T shirt Security guys try to herd you into their place, as do some girls. 'Walking St' is a misnomer that can catch you unawares. It is only blocked to traffic at weekends. Even then you get bikes passing. Mon to Fri it's very dangerous, riders speeding thru, often eye-balling the sights. Traffic only has a narrow thru way due to the volume of pedestrians and the street encroachment by businesses. As you can see from the video, it's a noisy, vibrant place.
