  2. 8 1/2 years married to wifey here..... My first wife was quite frankly, very cool as a general rule. Law School Graduate, corporate Attorney for Lockheed. We certainly fitted in the category of " we just grew apart" We had different ideas of how life was going to look later....she wanted to sell the house in San Jose, Calif and move to central Calif...I didn't...she liked San Luis Obispo.....I didn't.....it was the beginning of the end. Marriage counseling was good, no finger pointing, just telling the "shrink" how we both felt and she helped alot but.............at the end of the day she said to both of us " there is only 1 reason to stay married to each other, and that is do you still truly love each other"? Good narrative.. We were both smart enough to figure out that if we both go out and get attorney's etc...it is going to cost a bundle. We both acted like adults, figured out after 15 years of marriage what was fair to both of us, my kids college etc and it all worked out. We are still friends today and I see her when I go back to Calif...I got the house and she got a "lump sum" payout from me and we were both happy. Luckily, I knew that I was not going to sit around and be miserable the rest of my life, and kept in touch with wifey whom I met back in 1999, when we hired her here in an office we opened in BKK. That was a wise decision to keep in touch with her. Told her in 2003 sadly I was getting divorced, she told me to work on saving my marriage but...if it does not work out, then do what is right for you. 2005 the divorce is final, I came back here to Bangkok, called her up and asked her if she wanted to meet me for dinner right? She said "Yes, I will make the plans and come to your hotel" Damm..I was impressed, she took me to a dinner cruise on the Chaophraya River.....and the rest as they say..is history. After that evening, I think we both knew, this will no longer be a " business relationship" That night after our date, I told her she could stay at my hotel with me on Silom right? To this day I will never forget her response "Yeah, you wish" No regrets about Rachanee..she has been everything I wanted and more. And....she can throw a football and likes to have fun.

  3. Some bars play it for the staff and don't care about the customers and then there are bars that will play it for the customers not worrying about the staff. The successful ones will find the happy medium

  6. Losing both my parents and sister in their 50’s and being in the same age group has really made me reevaluate my life. I now don’t worry about anything, just live life by the day. I have enough money to last me forever but I I do want to get get back working for the sense of purpose each day.

  8. Many are afraid financially if they split with their wife, despite being desperately unhappy. I remember 20 years ago when my farang wife and I split up. I was unhappy for years, but hung around for the kids. Then I found Thailand, the rest, they say, is history. I remember having a few beers at the 19th one day with 7 other guys who'd been part of our group. The vast majority were unhappily married. When I told them I'd split with my wife, they were flabbergasted. I said I'd had enough and that I'm going to enjoy the rest of my life. Pretty much all of them envied me, told me I was "brave" and they all wanted to know how it would affect me financially. I gave my wife the house and her car, kept on paying for stuff on top of that for a good few years until she was settled and over it. Sure, it cost me a fortune, but it was so worth it. All these guys wanted to do what I'd done, but didn't have the balls . . .

  9. Quite pleased with my expanded rain collection system. That one rainstorm and a single roofline gutter managed to fill 2500L in less than an hour. In the pic below, the 1000L tank is at the far back, the 1500L tank in the foreground. I expect the approx 10k baht I spent on the system to save me about 30B/month. It wasn't really about the savings, but a project to keep me busy.

  10. I managed to suffer the music in "Lust" on Soi 6 for a wee while, but it was so loud as to be bloody offensive. Excessively loud music can and does deter repeat customers, I'd have stayed there and purchased more drinks had the music been at a reasonable level. Sometimes a manager should "read" the bar and customer base and adjust the volume of the music accordingly.

  11. This! You gotta enjoy life while you can. Money is money, you can get more. Why continue being miserable. I don't want to have any regrets in regards to the above. I've spent loads of holidays and going to/doing stuff i enjoy or always wanted to do. And i will continue to do so, it makes me happy, and is so worth it ...

  16. Yep, beer is the killer for most all of us without question. Don't drink any alcohol as a general rule at home here. Not trying to get into your personal business but..do you have a regular exercise routine? You can drink beer..if you balance it out with cardio especially..... I am just the opposite, love indoor exercise, always have. Weight training is a must for me...sadly here, no outdoor jogging for me, even in the cool season, just too hard as far as the heat. I certainly miss the cushion foam track back in Calif at the local High School. Cardio too is a must for me.....

  17. The bars facing each other at the top of Soi 7 are noted for the volume of their music blasting out into the soi. It's so bad I speed up to get past the bars as quick as possible. For the Las Vegas Beer Garden, if you sit near the entrance the volume when the live band kicks in isn't too bad. What helps with the building's acoustics is the insulation they've attached to the interior walls and ceilings. Prior to 9pm when the live band starts playing, the music volume is tolerable no matter where you sit.

  18. Do you think it might be because there is a roof on the complex and the sound from the amplifiers has nowhere to go but bounce off the walls? I've been to rock concerts in both outdoor amphitheaters and arenas and all things being equal, the sound always sounded louder and fuller inside an arena, especially if the acoustics were top quality. Being outdoors, the sound has a place to go and the listener doesn't feel so bombarded with an ear-splitting sound. I've seen a couple of the vloggers I subscribe to, namely Nick Dean, use their channels to keep their audience updated on the progress of that complex, and when I'm back next month, I'll have a look for myself. But I'm with several of you guys on the volume, if it's just too damn loud to even have a conversation with a bar girl or with a mate, then I'm out of there. I think that is one of the secrets of Billabong on LK Metro doing such good trade. When the band is playing, the open air allows for the sound to fade out into the night while all the customers sitting at the tables can enjoy a drink and casual conversation with a companion or their friends and not feel any need to split the scene due to the band being played at such a high volume. Maybe if the word gets out about that on Las Vegas, they will lower the volume to a more reasonable level.

  23. I struggle to think who his target audience would be, maybe the same older generation that he describes whom seem to be living in the past. It's only a few weeks ago that I was on the 6 and the amount of available girls of all shapes and sizes was very impressive. 100s of them and I do mean 100s of them all hoping to snare a ST. If I was a newbie walking the 6, I would be overwhelmed and delighted with the amount of available pussy!

  26. I don’t really suffer from stress so much, depression was my main problem. Was eventually diagnosed as bipolar or manic depressive as it used to be called. Had a mental breakdown two days after burying my sister and ended up being sectioned under the mental health act for 10 days. But now I feel okay mentally.

  27. Another great way to keep track of weather in Pattaya is the Longdo Traffic app (I've got it on Android, not sure about iOS) You can see traffic cameras all over Pattaya (and elsewhere). It overlays the radar on the map. While it was dry at my place in central Pattaya I could see heavy rain on Sukumvit and at Terminal 21 light rain

  29. This morning's heavy rain won't have done a lot to refill the reservoirs, but at least it will have reduced demand for a few days. Even Pattaya City isn't daft enough to send water tanker trucks out spraying the roads in this! Well, I hope not. <doubtful>

  36. That's a lot to bark about... 🦭🦭🦭 . . . More Than 1,000 Sea Lions Gathered at SF's Pier 39 This Week, the Largest Herd in Over a Decade https://sfist.com/2024/05/04/more-than-1-000-sea-lions-gathered-at-sfs-pier-39-this-week-the-largest-herd-in-over-a-decade/ Officials say a record number of sea lions have gathered at San Francisco’s Pier 39, one of the city's most iconic tourist attractions (or tourist traps, depending on who you ask) this week. Pier 39 harbormaster Sheila Chandor counted more than 1,000 sea lions there this week, per the Associated Press, the highest number in 15 years. Usually, there are about 300-400 sea lions in the winter, reaching up to 700 in the spring. They’re reportedly flocking to the docks to feast on above-average populations of anchovies and herring before the onset of mating season next month. "They are fueling up for the mating season,” Chandor told the AP. "It's spring. They are ready to rock and roll down in the Channel Islands, and we're a nice pit stop with some great seafood." At the Channel Islands, nomadic male sea lions find families to mate with... . . .
