  5. Only saw them once in the early 90's at the Silver Clef awards, Knebworth and were they good. I was a regular at The Brook Southampton which was a great smallish live music venue and many tribute bands appeared there, my favs were The Hamsters, great TB who did loads of Jimi Hendrix songs.

  13. Well, it wasn't really an outcome so to speak because I never actually got ripped off in the first place, but I was close to it. Here's a link to the thread: The Hotel was the Page 10 on Soi 10, and I spent an hour with the Reservations manager discussing what had happened. I showed her the What's app conversation, along with the bank details they asked me to transfer the money to, the emails and all the other details. I also showed her the email I'd received from their own reservations team, but with an edited footer on it saying to contact via what's app and settle my bill that way. They had no explanation as to how the emails got intercepted, but I'm guessing maybe an unsecure server got hacked and the scammer added their phone number details to the bottom, then once I initiated contact via what'app, they started the scam in earnest. for extra points being a c**t, the person also told me to cancel my Agoda booking anyway and they'd reserve the room but couldn't guarantee it , but I should cancel anyway. Thus, if I didn't send them the payment, I would be under the impression my booking was still fine, when in fact I'd cancelled it so I'd turn up thinking I was still reserved when I wasn't, so I'd have been stranded. Anyway, it transpires that 5 people got ripped off due to this before they discovered what had happened. One guy from Norway lost over EURO 1k. The perpetrators were an Indian guy so basically a typical benchod, and someone else, possibly Thai and possibly inside the organisation . Either way they assured me their system is now secure, but TiT. I thank my lucky stars I didn't follow it through, and also again to Mike from the Devil's Den for turning up on their doorstep with the deposit and sorting my reservation out within 12 hours. Moral of the story: Agoda bookings work pretty well most of the time. A failsafe method is to get a trusted friend to pay the deposit at reception in THB, get confirmation details and names, times and dates. Direct booking is open to abuse, as in this case. As always when dealing with any Hotel, there are always caveats.

  14. All he had to do was use Airbnb or go find some cheap accommodation above a bar. Then again if during songkran then this is perfectly feasible, first off someone scamming cheap accomodation during peak times, and secondly that explains why the Hotel bills were so high. Whatever happened to using some common sense like hiring a cab for the day to drive you around the hotels (which the driver will know about) until you find one with a half decent walk in or rack rate.

  15. Whiskeys are funny that way - back in the day I used to drink some good scotches and found that they were almost like liquid tranquilizer, I really felt laid back and relaxed when I drank them and so did most of the other people I knew that indulged. Rye whiskeys, on the other hand, seem to make people go nuts when they drink too much, me included - cheap ryes were the drink of choice with our indigenous peoples when they could afford them and some are real rotguts, but I find that even the smell of the better brands like Canadian Club or Crown Royal turns me off now. If I am going to drink whiskey I'll have a Jamiesons instead, I don't mind Irish whiskey.

  18. Seen them quite a number of times . First time was 1970 in Hyde Park London, doing Atom Heart Mother. It was then a few years till I saw them do Pulse in 1994. Going to see the Australian Pink Floyd in Swansea in November, they are one of the better cover bands and play only in large venues as their road show is quite large.

  19. read 'em and weep: Same week I was travelling 1 hour and 40 mins each way to visit my Dad in Hospital after a major op, which went wrong then they had to do again. After a nightshift with another nightshift to follow. That's when I went off with stress. Justified. now back to 118/77

  20. I've had a similar issue with Agoda. They took payment, it got bounced so my booking was effectively cancelled. Lesson learned, I actually call Agoda now and settle in full prior to the booking so as not to find myself sleeping a a doorway previously occupied by @Nightcrawler and his boyfriend (the floor is always sticky).

  24. The only one that I find remotely attractive is the one on the far right of the pic, but even then it's a bit of a stretch. I agree. While all our tastes certainly differ, I think that the heavy make up, false eyelashes, trout pouts and contact lenses do nothing to improve things. If that's progress, then God help us.

  25. Yep.... I always feel great after a good workout and soaking wet bike ride. Sweating out all the poisons. Then rinse, drink beer, sleep good and get up and do it again. If I don't workout I sleep like absolute shit.

  26. I got burned with a booking on a hotel in Hua Hinn a couple years ago (booking.com). Thankfully it was for only one night. Went to the hotel to sort it out but the bitch (claimed to be the daughter of the owner of the hotel) would have nothing to do with it. I can't remember in the past five years being as pissed off as I was that day. These hotel booking sites are pure scum. I refuse to use them anymore. ----------------- This is why i almost always stay at the same place in Pattaya and Bangkok. And why typically I will find hotels in a particular area and book directly with ones I have had good experiences with. I also will only book for one or two nights initially. Then once I am there extend the time directly at the hotel.

  33. @Pumpuynarak Beautiful yard Cliff.....well done. We pay 500 baht per month for 24/7 security, one way in, one way out, with that though, every Sat the village street sweepers come by on foot and clean up every house in front of leaves, other various debris etc. If you want more, you have to pay them to come inside your yard for various things. Do you have that too there? Love your huge lot, unfortunately at wifey's house here, none of them are that large.....I trim the few things she does have.....but not in this fucking weather LOL! This tree here, I was out there for 10 minutes the other day.....that was it. It can wait LOL! Your wife is looking great these days.....it's hot outside now, don't be out chasing her around the front yard with a "woodie" The neighbors might see you

  34. I'm not a big spirits drinker, but my weapon of choice with 2 cubes of clear ice is Glenmorangie Signet: There are some complex whiskies out there, I'm not a purist nor and expert, but it has always been heralded as a mans drink, from "Scotty" on the USS Enterprise to every Hollywood tough guy trope. Given the choice though, either Bombay Sapphire and tonic or Tanquaray Ragnpur tonic.

  35. Called Bangkok Bank this Morning. Credit Card and the transaction in question are now blocked. They are sending out a new card and it should be here in about a week. Only problem is that they had my old address for the credit card even though I had changed said address on the main account. For this reason they have to send the replacement card to my Jomtien Bangkok Bank Branch. Not a big deal. I need to stop by there for something anyway. hmmm - I see a vision of myself signing 25 pieces of paper. We are leaving for Bangkok next Sunday, so looks like I may be making that trip without a Thai Bank Credit Card. Note to self -> extra stop for THB at the ATM.

  37. Apart from Pullman King Power, all my hotel bookings, although reserved with a card, are pay on arrival. King Power have the annoying habit of trying to take the money at any random date after i book it online. It then triggers my Bank's security as it's attempted to be taken from Thailand when i haven't told them i'm there. They send me a message about it asking me to say yes or no it's me, but message/attempted money being taken is like 3am or so UK time, so i don't see it until i wake up anyway. So what happens is, bank doesn't approve it, i have to call bank to confirm i know it's genuine, card it's corrupted, get it back working. Bank tell me Pullman would have to attempt to take fee again, but same scenario would play out. I'm kinda glad, even though it was annoying the 2 times it's happened, as i feel better knowing my Bank are on top of stuff like this. So i contacted Pullman, explained, they said fine, pay on arrival. I then also booked and paid for July/August's 2 stays when there last month.

  40. The site will be used for a new monument to the late King. Pattaya to erect monument honouring King Bhumibol Adulyadej, The Legendary Royal Sailor Pattaya City has unveiled plans to commemorate the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as King Rama IX, through the construction of a monument at the site of the old royal sailing club on Pattaya beach. Deputy Mayor Kritsana Boonsawat presided over a meeting highlighting the city’s dedication to preserving its cultural heritage. The inspiration behind this initiative stems from a historic event where Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit, accompanied by the Royal Family, sailed in Pattaya Bay decades ago. This event holds immense historical and cultural significance. On April 19, 1966, at 4:28 AM, His Majesty the King personally sailed a 13-foot OK-class sailboat named “Vega” across the Gulf of Thailand, from the Klai Kungwon Royal Palace in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, to Toey Ngam Beach, Sattahip, Chonburi, arriving at 9:28 PM after a 17-hour journey covering 111 kilometres. His remarkable feat conquered challenging weather conditions and numerous obstacles. ...
