Maya Bay has just re-opened was back there around Phi Phi today.

Looked stunning and you are not allowed in the water.

Nice shots, great to see and look forward one day to getting back there for sure.

Long tail boats are Ok though?

The actual beach was nothing like the beach in the film. They dozed down a lot of the trees and shrubs etc and flattened the beach to make it fit their idea of an idyllic location despite it being in a National Park!

There was a court case against Fox Films, not sure if it’s been settled yet or not.

No mate none at all

They can come to the edge of the bay , but not actually enter into it.

To get onto the beach you have to sail around the back of the island onto a raised pier (pictured) which then takes you on a raised platform all the way into the back of "the beach" (Maya Bay) your not even allowed to walk on the land now till you reach the beach.

It's well organised and martialled I just hope it stays that way , it only re-opened on the 2nd so ...

Hundreds of boats filled with tourists every day did much more damage , but always about money , Covid has actually been great for the environment

Koh Mai Pai (เกาะไม้ไผ่) Bamboo Island has no Bamboo on it , but it was the locals from Phi Phi that did that so...

The only difference on the actual Beach in the film is the limestone cliffs in the film there is no gap in the cliffs where as in real life there is a gap  because its an actual bay (Maya Bay) ..

The land at the back you can't walk on now it's on a raised platform and is overgrown with jungle life so...

Hopefully it all stays that way 😊

I agree about the boat damage to some extent, but many people at the time felt the island should never have been used for the film, because they knew that it would encourage many more of these boats to come and pollute the waters, with not just oil and fumes, but also the shit that many tourists leave behind.

I spoke to the films Director (a member of my wife’s family) and she agreed, but as the beach had been “rearranged” before she was contracted to do the film, she didn’t have much say in the matter then.

Look under the heading 👌

“Controversy”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_(film)

The beach was substantially altered for the film and not by the locals, it was done by Fox Films.
Someone got a brown envelope, as is usually the case when big money and Thai officials  are involved.
