  1. Past hour
  2. Better than being Pear People, though that sounds quite fruity so maybe it explains the likes of Sunnee Plaza and BoysTown, lol.
  3. After yesterday's UK CPI figures came in higher than anybody expected, the Fx people have got a hard on for Sterling again. Current rate on XE is 46.48 THB/GBP. Even on Wise, that should get you 46.20 net after their fees. Carpe diem, chaps.
  4. That second photo looks like the background is closer than it really is due to the use of a telephoto lens. I think I know which stretch of highway you're referring to. I had a look via Street View (link) to confirm my memory. Neither the road nor the hill profile match the picture.
  5. Today
  6. Speaking of hills....When I lived a Centric Sea......Sometimes on a clear day I would go to the top and look around.... Believe it or not but the hills on the far outside of Chonburi and all the Islands you can see all match up to forum a kind of circle around the Pattaya area..... With a tiny bit of imagination it almost looks like the weathered remains of some giant volcano cone from long long long long long ago..... Not BS it really does....
  7. I dont know for sure.....But on the freeway to Bangkok just outside Chonburi/Pattaya there is a elevated hilly area.....I think the picture came from there....I think one photo is making the hill look bigger than it is... Its the only part of the trip to Bangkok with hills...
  8. My first bottle of Beer Lao Green. This being SE Asia, I was actually surprised that the beer was a normal colour and they hadn't added green dye to it, lol. The head was weak and didn't last for long. It has zero sugar (not sure about the total carbs or calories) yet it's nothing like as dry as, say, San Mig Zero. It's certainly smooth, just like the Beer Lao Gold, which is probably due to the addition of the special malted rice, and I guess crisp, as written on the bottle, isn't a bad way to describe it, though I thought I occasionally got a whiff of something vegetal, like grass maybe. Perhaps that's why it's called Beer Lao Green? All the same, I much prefer the Beer Lao Gold, it's a tastier and more pleasant beer IMHO.
  9. What road is it as I don't recognize any of the landmarks in, around or outside of Pattaya? The mtn in the background looks a lot higher than anything near Pattaya.

  11. No chance of anyone trying to sneak into the Edge from 2nd Rd. They've done a good job with the barricades to stop right turns from 2nd Rd. Soi Honey might be easier for an illegal entry. Just wait until the cop has his back turned.

  17. First time for a while along Soi Phettrakul this morning and noticed this new building going up across from Smile Land. Banana Karaoke coming soon according to the poster.
  18. Relaxing with a coffee. Is my Barista telling me to cheer up🤔
  19. The Road to Pattaya, 1969-2024
  20. Totally understand the drive along Beach Road on arrival. Done it many a-time! So Beach road..3rd road and straight up Lenkee and Dianna it is then mate !! Or 2nd Road, Soi 15, Buakhao, Dianna depending on road works of course !
  21. Yep thats what i'm currently doing and have been doing since my arrival here in 2007. My age at 73yo and pre-existing conditions of Type 2 Diabetes and stroke sufferer effectively make me uninsurable. I took the decision rightly or wrongly to ditch my brilliant top line Bupa insurance cover i had in the UK when they quoted me £300 per month (January 2007) to continue with my cover in Thailand but convert to their International policy, i was at the time paying £80 per month at age 56 yo. I took into account what my premium would likely be at age 70 yo if i was paying £300 in January 2007, i'm thinking perhaps it would at least reach £500 per month over the 14 years. Time and my future health will tell if i made the right decision, i've got a deal with god to ensure that i don't suffer any long term health problems, i'm just going to die lol I think i've probaly paid out of my pocket 500K baht in hospital fees in the 17 years i've been here.
  22. Yep but its the best solution i can think of at the mo as i always like to do Beach Road when visiting Patts and then up 2nd Road to the LKM hotel.
  23. At age 67 my insurance with IMG is still affordable. Last renewal was $2,300 USD (84,000 THB) for the year. I expect that will change when I hit 70 as from what I've heard that's when premiums really go up. My plan then is to self-insure. Regrading eyeglasses. I used to purchase them when back in the US, but some years back switched to using Euro Optic as Dr. Maria does a decent job on the eye exam and the glasses are about half what I was paying in the US. Last year purchased new frames and lenses (reading and computer Rx's) at a cost of 10,000B for the two pairs.
  24. Those staying at the Edge will have the same problem. I was standing at the entrance to the Edge when I snapped this pic. Can you imagine the frustration it will cause when you're in sight of the entrance and you get waved past and have to go around the block to enter where you're staying. I see Google Maps has already been updated to reflect the change to one way on Diana and Honey.
