I think so too, but here's how one person on another board reacted to the same pic: It can't be easy for a restaurant owner to try to please the world. Evil2 points

I had dinner New Year's Eve with a farang friend and his Thai companion at Calles Bar and Restaurant in the arcade next to Soi Diana. That arcade, which runs between 2nd Road and Cherry Bar, is something of Pattaya's Restaurant Row. It's home to Kiss Food, Beefeater, Patrick's, Longhorn Steakhouse, My Way, Little India and a couple of others. All were very busy. Every seat was taken at Kiss; Patrick's had a sign up saying it was fully occupied; Beefeater and Longhorn had people waiting for tables. We got the last table available at 8.00 p.m. at Calles. It hadn't been our first choice, but we we were rewarded with excellent meals. I had the planked chicken at 295 baht. Roasting meat or fish on an oak plank is a Scandinavian cooking technique that probably predates Viking times, but was revived in Sweden in the 20th century. I got a nicely grilled piece of chicken breast flanked on two sides by duchess potatoes, a favorite of mine. It's the nutmeg used as a seasoning as well as butter and egg in the mashed potatoes that does it for me. Duchess potatoes are a classic of French cuisine, supposedly first made for a British duchess on a visit to France. The asparagus stalk wrapped in bacon and the grilled tomato half are the usual accompaniments to modern Swedish planked dishes. The gravy was OK, but it didn't add much flavor. My friend had the dory fillet, which he liked very much. It came with rice, but he could have had potatoes with it and on second thought, wished he had. I can't remember the exact price, but it was around 250 baht. His girlfriend had the planked salmon at about 425 baht. That's outside the scope of this thread, but she was happy with it and her margarita. The salmon came with duchess potatoes, asparagus stalks, grilled tomato half, Hollandaise sauce and a sprig of dill. Bottom line: Good stuff on the menu at Calles, with quite a few items under 300 baht. All three of us intend to return. Evil2 points

Agents are earning more than majority of players. Look at the Pogba transfer, half of the £90m went to the agent, some to the player, and about £35m to Juventus.1 point

Nothing wrong with people preferring simple food, but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would send back a restaurant dish simply because it had a more elaborate presentation. That just doesn't make sense. 😖 😕 Of course, it's not a very realistic hypothetical situation. The menu at Calles and most other Pattaya restaurants have pictures of the dishes, so the guy would know what it looked like before he ordered it. Evil1 point

Look, there's not a chance Rangers will be paying anything even close to half his wages, not even close. He is contracted to his parent club for the whole time anyway, so getting paid no matter, kicking a ball or not. He wasn't getting any game time, he definitely won't now as they have just signed Solanke. He desperately wants to play games. He has a great relationship with Howe, who has publicly stated Defoe has been a model Professional both on and off the pitch despite getting no game time, and he wants to help him in any way he can in what Defoe chooses to do. Defoe and Gerrard are good mates. Obviously they have talked about this for a while, as the 'story' has been rumbling for a while. Gerrard has said come play for me, i'll guarantee you games, Defoe has said yes. It's a win/win for everyone. He can also be called back if need be. Any EPL loan deal to Scotland, the parent Club will be paying by far the bulk of the wages, or it just wouldn't happen, that's the reality of wages in the EPL and the disparity between there and the SPL.1 point

Yes good session this morning, Marina Bay, surrounds, Merlion, Singapore Flyer, and Mall near casino. Bright Sunny weather. Got tube back to Orchard Road and walked back to hotel; at this time it started spitting with rain but once back in hotel some ‘big rain’. Ok now but tonight we are going to Bugis market so not too dependant on the weather.1 point

Surabaya domestic terminal has a souvenir shop that besides selling all the touristic crap and batik shirts, has a toy section where they have some nice models (1/24) so every time I go through I buy one. Yesterday added the Renault R8 Gordini. They cost the equivalent of 9 large Bintangs bloody hell ...... Not really sure they use the proper ruler for the scale when I compare the R8 and the VW !1 point

OK, a bit off topic, but I thought I better put it here than in the food thread. As you know (if you didn't miss too many lessons at school...) Indonesia was colonialized during a time by the Dutch. As any in any colonization traces will remain for a long time (maybe forever), and in Indonesia the influence of Dutch food is one of those things. Language is another. Note that this is more concentrated on Java as it was there that the Dutch has their main bases and trading posts. Garuda inflight magazine has a subject on this, and I thought it could ne interesting. Here you go. Special note to @Esco and @Evil Penevil who may recognize some familiar stuff ? Sorry for the quality, taken with my phone from a magazine on the plane yesterday with my limited skills.... Our estimated Belgian BM @Lambik may recognize a few items as well, as Belgian and Dutch cuisine have a few things in common. Love the Klappertaart on the last page, never seen it on a menu here. Maybe I need to start looking for some Dutch restaurants after all ! Another very popular one, that I often saw in Indo restaurant is the "Rijsttafel" , translation "rice table" A few pics taken from Google.... Bon Appetit !1 point
