If there were large numbers of unreported cases in Thailand then that would be reflected at the very least in the expat community in Pattaya and Bangkok. Expats going down with Covid would most definitely make the news and this very forum and that is not happening. It is very easy to rubbish Thailand from afar but they closed the borders very early and kept them closed. They introduced lockdowns and implemented what we now consider draconian measures but they appear to have worked. Another factor is that Thai's were already used to wearing facemasks prior to Covid so a very high percentage adopted wearing them immediately. To this day I cannot enter any of our three major shopping centers without wearing a facemask, being temperature tested and entering contact details on a register. The problem is going to be Thailand ( and many other countries) coming to terms with the fact that Covid 19 ( as with influenza) is with us for ever. It is never going to go away world wide and from what I read the likelihood is that when the vaccine is with us it will be only about 50% effective. I certainly will not wish to be vaccinated (unless I absolutely have to for flights) until a couple of years has gone by and we see what shortcuts were taken in its rushed production.5 points

Just another reason for not owning/driving a m/c here in Thailand, with a car at least you have a chance of survival.3 points

Me being Canadian, know nothing of TVR except Travoltaβs in Swordfish......definitely a head turner 20 years ago. Heard theyβre real cheap now in the UK2 points

My sister had a new TVR in Tasmania, but not for long though, as it burst into flames halfway up Mount Wellington and was a total right off. Actually, she was glad it got burned out, as the damn thing was forever in the garage getting βfixedβ.2 points

Both my kids have them, both nearly finished, been about 2 years altogether I think. Made a big difference to both of them, as they had kinda wonky teeth. They got it done at BKK Pattaya, think it was about 40k or 50k each for the full treatment.2 points

I had a tooth extracted a while ago, and the Dentist said that I needed to have an implant becase if I did not, then the teeth would move to fill the void. So my answer is Yes, they should work.2 points

Just got back from Sainsburys - 25% off 6 bottles or more vino - with 18 bottles. Was only going to get 12 but then noticed they had Oyster Bay Merlot already on offer, usually Β£10.50 on offer at Β£8.50 so 25% off that is a great deal for a decent wine. There's a Miller & Carter Steakhouse in our village & it's Β£25 a bottle in there.1 point

My wife has them for orthodontic not cosmetic reasons and visits her dentist in Pattaya every month. She has been doing this for some time now and about six months ago the dentist ceased charging her for the treatment and new brace saving her 1,000 baht at each visit.1 point

A good golf course always assuming it is still open. I had a really "cute" caddy who worked their part time. She must have left school by now. π€£1 point

Yes but : - where to find the official numbers (daily / weekly ..) of global deaths for Thailand, so as to be able to compare to previous years ? Because TOTAL deaths is the only reliable number. - in the rural areas, I think some deaths may be Covid related but simply not reported as such Same as here. Old people die in the villages, they are burried and finish. - in the cities, if the hospitals were overflowing with cases in reanimation we probably would hear about it on social media, so it must not be the case I guess ?1 point

Thanks but your a little late in responding as I renewed my two licenses a couple of weeks ago and I did use Mots Services who saved me all the paperwork and the need to go to Immigration for the residency certificate. You still have to visit the center behind Regents School but having a confirmed appointment put me with the first 20 or so applicants for processing. There appeared to be a couple of hundred Thai's without appointments.1 point

So, apparently all is good. TW told me cute dancer (Golden Time) was asked if she saw me in Pattaya because I was there then (jungle grapevine). She said yes but I didn't know who she was (which was correct when we met). She told them I had her join me for some kow mun gai (chicken/rice/soup) on the street before I left to go shopping. Should I see her again in a bar she'll get a half dozen drinks. I'll still just see the little kid.1 point

Playing well. Was there last season or season before, can't remember, against the Geordies, was the same day as the opening of the Billy Bonds stand. Good day, Billy and family were there.1 point

That was one of the biggest oddities with the new footpath; a couple of butt ugly rocks on a footpath and with lighting to boot. Think those lights lasted barely a week or two until someone used them for football practice.1 point

Bangkok Protests Over the past few days it has been necessary for the mod team to hide three threads covering the Bangkok Protests. Thai media law is very strict and precise regarding anything which is anti-government in nature. The authorities do monitor the internet. Some time ago a UK National Daily Newspaper was banned from being viewed on the internet in Thailand and if similar action was taken in respect of the forum the consequences could be serious. The obvious question is why canβt material concerning the protests, which has appeared on main stream media all over the world appear on the forum; the answer is that as a small forum, we do not have the means or finance to address any action against the forum. I appreciate that some will not agree with this decision, however I would ask that everyone respects the decision by avoiding making any reference, either in threads or posts, to the Bangkok Protest. Many thanks. John.1 point

My little travel pc a trashy HP cost me about $100 two years ago. Not much memory, just a little thing. I figured I'd get 1 year out of it. God damn.... this thing has got me through fucking everything. The craziest year of my life, I've done everything with it - it's enabled me to stay here, take care of all my stuff back home. Banking, health care, total entertainment.... even my Aunt's cremation arrangements. Hard to believe what I've done with this little s.o.b. I tend to hate tech. but this little horse has gotten me through hell and back. Thank you HP -1 point
