Those guys, or similar, used to go around in a pickup making guttering and down piping for houses made from zinc or galvanised plate. It was usually a family affair, with the wife and grandpa joining in as well. I can see the little brazier for heating up the soldering irons. They usually did a whole house in less than a day. With all the farang ghetto estates going up since 2000, they usually had plenty of work on their hands. When I was tiny, my dad was into motorcycles and he had a Brough Superior for a while and sold it around 1959 to buy a Silent Vellocette. Sitting on the Brough was like sitting on a jack hammer, at least that’s how I remember it, the silent Vello was like sitting on a comfy sofa. 🤗

Yes it would, but back then it was much too big and required a lot of maintenance, so it had to go. He had a growing family and was actually saving bit by bit for a car and the money came in handy. I often drive past where Lawrence of Arabia was killed and seen his grave, I wonder what he would make of how prices have risen.

Easiest/quickest way to see it is do tour from Kanchanaburi to Erawan/Hellfire pass/anywhere up there that includes 30 min trip on ‘death rail’. The station they plop you on at has this view..... Note the railway skirting the edge of the mountain on stilts in the distance on the left. Edited December 28, 2018 by Sangsom 1
