Only vaccinated people should be allowed to fly, said Ryanair chief Michael O’Leary said as he launched a blistering attack on “idiot” anti-vaxxers.

The boss of Europe’s biggest airline rejected mandatory Covid jab programmes being rolled out in Austria and Germany, but said authorities should instead “make life difficult” for those who refuse vaccines without good cause.

He told The Telegraph: “I don't think that governments should permit those people who are not vaccinated to go and infect everybody else.

"If you're not vaccinated, you shouldn't be allowed in the hospital, you shouldn't be allowed to fly, you shouldn't be allowed on the London Underground, and you shouldn't be allowed in the local supermarket or your pharmacy either.

“You can sit at home and you know, get your deliveries of medicines and food. But you should not, you know, go to work or go on public transport unless you have a vaccine certificate.”

Mr O’Leary doubted whether vaccines could ever be made mandatory. “That is an infringement of your civil liberties. But you simply make life so difficult. Or [make it that] there are lots of things that you can’t do unless you get vaccinated," he added.

The omicron variant has dented airlines’ hopes of a recovery as the reintroduction of travel restrictions sparks a wave of cancellations. Although the curbs could yet be short-lived, the prospect of further restrictions in the future threaten to undermine long-term confidence in flying.

Mr O’Leary, 60, said Ryanair is expecting to fly 1m fewer passengers, a fall of 10pc, during December as a result.

“If there's continuing uncertainty over Christmas on further restrictions or some kind of further restrictions, then January will be weak and the forward bookings in Easter and next summer will be weak - so we just don't know,” he said.

Mr O’Leary has repeatedly criticised Boris Johnson over his handling of the crisis. Earlier this week Ryanair mocked Downing Street on social media by suggesting the higher the severity of the outbreak, the greater the voracity of work parties at No 10.

“You get promoted around here for upsetting Johnson and his half-witted idiots,” he said.

“What we are struggling with is why there is the kind of a panic in Downing Street that's not being replicated in any other European country. It does seem to be that there's a growing belief that omicron is more transmissible but far less virulent.

“In the UK and to a lesser extent in Ireland, they're just trying to lock everybody down for another two weeks up to Christmas. And then I suspect after Christmas we'll have the news that: ‘Oh, it's not quite as serious as we thought it was.’

“And these restrictions will be removed, but they will effectively have, you know, blocked a lot of people travelling or who are planning to fly over Christmas because they've created huge uncertainty and nervousness.”

Meanwhile, the Irish executive ridiculed anti-vaxxers: “We recognise the rights of everybody to decide not to get vaccinated if you so want. If you personally object to vaccination, because it's some huge government/big pharma conspiracy; apart from the fact that you would be plainly an idiot, we respect your right to be an idiot.”

This is the first time I have agreed with something said by O'Leary, normally I think he is a jerk.

I am living in the real world.....getting on with life ....so I indeed do have a "f*cking" idea what other people are going through but I do not run around like a continual doom and gloom merchant. Your another one who should look outside your bubble and see that the virus is not just present in the UK... it is world wide.

If being wrapped up in myself is making my own decision what medicine I will put in my body....if I do put it in....when that will be...then yes...I am wrapped up in myself and very happy that I am. At the present time I am ecstatic to not have had the jab....and one thing I have over others...I still have the right to make the decision to take the vaccine....unlike you and others.... that right has gone..

Why should any person who is not vaccinated "stay the f*ck " home.  The biggest scaremongers and scared people are the vaccinated ones...you know the ones who are running around spruiking that they are protected because they all lined up like goodie goodies to get their jabs and will happily line up for as long as they are told to with no questions asked.

Time some popped their bubble and started living their life....especially the ones living in the UK. You continually sit there and follow along like sheep to do what the Authorities tell you to do..... but those same Authorities at the same time flaunt the rules.... do what they want..... while you sit there and let life pass you by..... so who is the idiot in this case.

Robs is a idiot for making the best choice for himself? Rob I guess Lazarus is volunteering to be in charge of your life..

After 2-3-4 jabs, if the jabbers don't have confidence the jabs are protecting them from guys like Rob, then maybe they should question who is the idiot for lining up for more jabs...

Roob is not a threat to me. He is a threat to all others who are not vaccinated, as well as those vaccinated who still have a higher chance of serious illness, i.e., the elderly and immune compromised. He is also a threat to become an incubator for yet another Covid variant.

There are two types of people in the world -- the selfless and the selfish.

What type are you?

The Netherlands has begun a strict lockdown over Christmas amid concerns over the Omicron coronavirus variant.

Non-essential shops, bars, gyms, hairdressers and other public venues are closed until at least 14 January. Two guests per household will be allowed - four over the holidays.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the measures were "unavoidable".

Countries across Europe have been tightening restrictions as the heavily mutated variant spreads.

The new rules in the Netherlands are the strictest to have been announced over Omicron so far.

"I stand here tonight in a sombre mood. And a lot of people watching will feel that way too," Mr Rutte told a news conference on Saturday. "To sum it up in one sentence, the Netherlands will go back into lockdown from tomorrow."

Under the new restrictions, people are being urged to stay at home as much as possible.

There are strict limits on the number of people who can meet. A maximum of two guests, aged 13 and over, are allowed in people's homes. This will rise to four people between 24 and 26 December, and on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Events are not permitted other than funerals, weekly markets selling groceries and professional sports matches with no spectators.

Restaurants can continue to sell takeaway meals, and non-essential shops can offer click and collect services.

Meanwhile all schools are now closed until at least 9 January.

"I can now hear the whole of the Netherlands sighing. This is exactly one week before Christmas, another Christmas that is completely different from what we would like," Mr Rutte said.

But, he added, a failure to act now would likely lead to "an unmanageable situation in hospitals".

Earlier on Saturday, people rushed to do their Christmas shopping amid reports that new measures were about to be introduced.

"It's too busy, but I'm coming before the Christmas holidays to pick up gifts, it seems like a new lockdown is coming," Ayman Massori told AFP news agency.

For weeks, curfews have been placed on hospitality and cultural venues in the Netherlands in an effort to limit the spread of Omicron.

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health has reported more than 2.9m coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, and over 20,000 deaths.

It says the Omicron variant currently still accounts for a minority of coronavirus cases in the Netherlands, but is spreading rapidly.

Officials say it is expected to become the dominant variant by the New Year.

The head of the Dutch outbreak management team, Jaap van Dissel, said the new measures would "buy time", allowing more people to get booster shots and for the healthcare system to prepare for a possible rise in infections.

Cue another rant from the roob..

Newcastle (NSW) Church of Ubuntu sacked woman for getting Covid-19 vaccine

A wellness clinic operating in one of Australia’s biggest cities fired a worker for getting her Covid-19 jab. They blamed God for the decision.

A Newcastle(NSW)-based wellness clinic and “church” whose senior members refer to vaccination mandates as
“medical apartheid” has sacked a worker because she chose to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The Church of Ubuntu, which operates as a spiritual home and wellness clinic and sells alternative
medicines, is facing legal action after sending a termination letter to one of its staff members — a person it
argues was a “subcontractor, not an employee”.

Lainie Chait alleges she was let go from her role with the group because she took the vaccine in October.

In a letter, shared with news.com.au, the church says Ms Chait’s decision was “contrary … to what is
required of us by our Lord God and Creator”.

The letter reads in part: “It is the position of the (Church of Obuntu) that to receive the COVID-19/Sars Cov
2 injection consciously and deliberately with intent is in contradiction with our Constitution and contrary to
our position on what is required of us by our Lord God and Creator.”
