Another diet week completed and weighed in today.

I always place the scales on the same horizontal tile in the kitchen floor for luck. Another kilo lost making a grand total of 16 kilos in 13 weeks. That leaves me exactly another 10 kilos to achieve by the 13th October

I have noticed a pattern reoccurring. In every 4 weeks I have one week when I lose nothing  and the other three weeks I lose between one and three kilos.

For a while the scales were telling me I was losing weight but my body did not seem to be any different. Then I was being told my face looked slimmer but nothing seemed to be happening to all the weight I had added to my gut. Now I can see the difference it is finally making to the fat around my waist.

Onward and downwards. 😉

When I was regularly working out and lost 40 lbs. I just looked at my belt size and avoided the scale.

Agree, belt size is a good indicator. I started on notch 2, I am now using notch 5, well happy. Holiday next week, I could almost squeeze in to 34" waist swimming shorts but I don't want to frighten the pool dwellers just yet, a few weeks and the mums may take a second look.

My problem is because of the pain I experience from my hip and knee I cannot work out in any of the ways that I would like. I will try to persevere using the kettle ball but weight training and upper body strength exercise is totally alien to me. When I was a footballer none of the training I did involved weights although I know they do that now.

I really miss my daily cycle rides.

I have lost 35pounds to date which leaves me 22 pounds still to go by the 13th October.

My son-in-law has it fixed in his mind that I like bars of Bournville chocolate

and he is not wrong. He comes round to see me and as he leaves gives me a bar of chocolate. I say, "Thanks but you know I am on this diet."

He laughs as he leaves saying one will not hurt me. He means well but it WILL hurt me as it will break my cycle of not cheating myself once since I started my diet.

I should have thrown it away but it sits like the elephant in the room at the back of a food cupboard with all the other products I cannot eat any more. 🤣

It's like a support group on this thread. Reading other member's achievements/stories does offer a reason to keep going with our need to stay healthy and fit.

It is true though that some weeks are harder than others and sometimes the weight doesn't shift. My bad week was during my birthday celebrations and I did have some beers (7 over 3 days), and I put a couple of lbs back on.  You just need to pick up the gauntlet and get moving again.

I am comfortably on notch 5 of my belt (started checking my weight at notch 2) and I am now down to 14 stones 4 lbs after starting my quest to get fit at 15 stone 10 lbs. I will be off up the ridge behind my house in about 45 minutes and that can only help, I feel alive when I am up there.

Only yesterday the wife told me that I had lost a bit of weight and looked skinny. That's probably the first time in months that the wife has said something positive about my weight and I relished that comment.

So continue to add your achievements here guys as they are not only good to hear, but they are also assisting me and, I hope others, to pursue and maintain their own goals.

I have been waiting for feedback as it has been about 10 days since the surgeon who will probably carry out my hip replacement operation was requested to review the results of my follow up x-rays on my hip and knee.

I decided yesterday to telephone the Manager of the hospital department who supports the surgeon to hear if they have any news for me.

Yes they do.................he is on holiday!

The nice lady Manager says she will immediately send him another email so that he has two waiting when he returns.

I resist the urge to eat my bar of Bournville.

I will give the cat a good kicking instead..........................except I don't have one!

Have you considered swimming. Even a basic frog stroke can be excellent and easy on the joints.

I would think the public health service has resources for pools that may be available for rehab and senior, both for individuals and class groups. They may even susidize a pool membership for medical reasons (at least partially).

Starting something like that could be a bit awkward initially. But after a few times might be something you really enjoy, and could prove to be very beneficial.

Phoned Simpson's Medical Practice today for a follow up appointment with my GP.

He is on holiday as well. 🤣

Told they can book me in for the first available telephone consultation after he returns.

"Okay, when is that?" says I

"10:00am ( +or- 30 minutes) on Friday 25 August?"

I was tempted to ask if that was this year or next but these Receptionists are not known for their sense of humor.

Well, I have been waiting now 13 weeks for an appointment to visit the ENT department (Ear, nose and throat). When I was seen by the doctor, he advised me it was urgent and I would probably be seen within 2-3 weeks latest; how wrong he was. He even said they need to confirm that the polyps are not cancerous although that was only a small percentage of what ENT see.

I phoned the doctors last week and asked 'when would I get my appointment'; I was advised that I needed to contact the hospital ENT department myself, no more for the doctor to do.

Sent an email 2 days ago and today I got the reply as below:

I am afraid that due to the tremendous pressures the NHS is currently under, I am not able to give you an indication of when you are likely to be seen. I can assure you that our nurses and doctors are doing their utmost to see our patients as quickly as possible, but due to the dynamic and volatile nature of the service, many targets are struggling to be met. I apologise that I cannot be more helpful

Well, that didn't really help my cause, I am no further forward and the reply from an NHS team member wasn't really sounding like I will be seen any time soon, in fact I think I will be lucky to have heard back by September when I go to Thailand, probably just go to the local Bangkok Hua Hin hospital.

Very poor response to something that could be needing an urgent check up. I can only say that steroid sprays and stopping taking aspirin seemed to have helped my cause but a professional check up would be absolutely crucial.

What has happened to our NHS.

Of course the consultants rarely work a full week for the NHS,they also do a lot of private work which is very, very lucrative.

The last time I saw one privately(BUPA paid) it was £150 for 30 minutes & that was some years ago.

Greedy bastards springs to mind.

The experience you describe here is not only appalling it is downright frightening.

Aye, a combination of the Tories gutting the whole NHS this past decade or so, and then Wales having the worst wait times in Britain is not good for your cause.

Add in strikes, low retention etc, sooner Labour get in the better.

For some inexplicable reason i ALWAYS give this topic a miss...................

But you shouldn't Cliff, never too late to make good lifestyle changes.

You're being very prudent about your finances, so why not do the same here?

Not matter what physical shape you're in, if you want to, you'll find something to improve your health, swimming or whatever.

Wales is a devolved country which is run almost entirely by a labour senate. Tories have little impact in how NHS Wales is run, but I take your point overall that the Tories policies have not done favours to the NHS. Throwing money at it is not helping in real terms.

Aye, without upsetting the Mods, that's kinda what I meant. Overall the Tories have gutted the NHS in the UK, relevant to spending in comparable European countries..Though like Scotland and Northern Ireland, Wales decides how much to allocate the NHS from their overall budget from Westminster, and the Tories currently use waiting lists in Wales being the worst as their 1st line of defence when questioned about the shambles the NHS is currently in.

But anyway, I've been admonished by the powers that be enough this past week, I'll say no more. Suffice to say, I'm glad I live in London, when I had to have an ultrasound after an 'abnormal' liver blood test, it happened in weeks rather than months, and was fine.
