Popular Post Krapow
On 8/11/2023 at 3:35 PM, Krapow said: We were down at the London VFS earlier, bit of a queue though staff there said was quiet compared to the past 2 months, most people had their Visas and away using them now. Anyways, we were first in the queue for our 10.15am appointment, well, Sa's appointment, and only Sa was allowed in. We went to a coffee shop round the corner, Sa in and out in 15mins. Then went to a Vietnamese place on way home for some lunch. We all woke about 6am this morning, so hungry by 11.30am. Still, it was 5am yesterday we woke at, hopefully 7am tomorrow, 8am Sunday, and back to normal. Back at the gym tomorrow as well, my anchor. We got got Sa's visa for Finland (Lapland) just now, was actually out for delivery yesterday, though they said 'they couldn't access the address' Rubbish, anyway, great service from VFS, 3 working days, not so great from courier DX. Looking forward to snow, snow snow! Hotel looks decent, not that we plan to be in it much. Hopefully next on my bucket list, no, not meet Santa, see Northern Lights! This was originally booked a couple of years ago, Caitlin kinda knows Santa isn't 'real' these days, but she'll love it anyway, she'll never have seen snow like this, nor Sa. Husky and Reindeer rides etc. Edited August 17, 2023 by Krapow 6 1

I see the lights from Canada and that was quite spectacular.

Think on the sledges will be hardest for Sa, she'll need a full Northern Ireland style Balaclava to keep her face warm while riding along lol. But, she wanted to go, when i first booked it a couple of years ago, i said did she fancy Lapland or Euro Disney, she said Lapland and the snow. Nervously excited, i think would be the current term for how she's feeling now she knows it's definitly happening. 3

Horizondave
On the Finland theme, I was just looking at the price of beers in Helsinki. Somebody told me that Finland was an expensive country. I must admit that I knew Norway was pretty expensive for a beer or other alcoholic drink. Anyhow just printed out the beer/lager list of prices for the Holiday Inn at Vantaa Airport, dropping in on 15 September. Was quite shocked that the prices for a hotel in Helsinki were not that bad. KhunDon
Had a video call to wife and son earlier. They were having a full body massage from a blind masseur that had traveled all the way to Pathum Thani from Hua Hin, to massage all the family. She and her dad swear by this guy where massage is concerned. No pictures, as that would be rude. 😜 She and our son, together with the in laws have been busy for the last 2 weeks taking our son hither and yon to make the most of his holidays, so they need a good rubbing. 😉 Time to cook a big steak for dinner. 😜 3

Snow and cold always seem to generate a lot of fascination with those who have never experienced it - I'm sure you'll all have a great time, especially the girls - but you'll be happy to leave it behind, too, when the trip is over. Personally, after a lifetime of winters in these climes, I wouldn't care if I never saw snow again and will do my best to avoid it over the remainder of my days; however, life goes on and it's time to start thinking of winter preparations and with that in mind I texted my firewood provider yesterday, hoping to get my order in as early as possible - damned if he didn't text back a minute later saying he had a cord of wood on his truck right now and would I like it? He was over to the house in fifteen minutes and dropped it off, only charging $25 more than last year's price and he's already the cheapest provider in town to my knowledge - and the wood is lovely, all standing dead and sized perfectly - very little splitting required. I'll receive three more loads like this and that will get my little house through this winter: 4

Where i grew up in Northern Ireland at my Granda's was kinda up a mountain, so i've seen plenty quite heavy, deep snow some years. Though i doubt anything like you going by some of your pics, or probably what i'll encounter in Lapland. 4 day trip, all planned itinerary, think it will be just right amount of time. I've always loved Christmas, snow and suchalike anyway, so it'll nearly be as magical for me as my girls. Husky and Reindeer rides, igloos, going deep into snow filled forests at night in the Arctic Circle, i know i'll enjoy it. Probably not for everyone, and i have a slight worry it will be too cold for Sa, so getting her to bring 50 layers even with the provided thermals, but we're all looking forward to it. 1

maipenrai
Not a very nice day here today at 10C and showering and drizzling since I got up this morning - I don't really mind, though as it gives me an excuse to lay around and do little after a couple of nights on the piss.
boydeste
Finally packed up and home. Had a caster blowout on the barrow, fortunately I found it on the walk back. Was dark by the time I got to the van, so was pleased to find it. Not sure whether the 10mm bar snapped or just came unscrewed, will take a closer look tomorrow. All I wanted to do was to get showered up and rest. Now watching an old Clint Eastward film, in the line of fire. 2
