  3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-60284491 Australia has announced the reopening of its borders to vaccinated tourists and other visa holders for the first time in almost two years. "If you're double vaccinated, we look forward to welcoming you back," Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. The reopening, on 21 February, will be welcome news for many sectors including international education.

  5. Things not looking good for the less well off in the society as usual. Add this to the massive rise in domestic fuel costs and the NI contribution increase coming shortly and times will be tough for millions of people. Maybe the government should concentrate on problems at home rather than worrying about shit like Ukraine etc. And try to help the lower paid for a change.

  27. The book I posted earlier ' Black Mamba Boy' is a sort of prequel to this one. Where this is about the authors fathers friend accused of murder in Cardiff , that one is based on her father and his story of how he ended up living in the UK and his journey from Africa as a young boy and man. I enjoyed both of them.

  28. You are correct, but……there was one instance of a player taking it a little far. Then tragedy hit, he was shot in a home invasion while recovering from an injury, poor guy lost too much blood from his leg. An inch either way, and he probably would have had a Hall of Fame career. RIP Sean Taylor, would have been one of the great safeties to ever play…… https://m.facebook.com/watch/?v=912000332806227

  31. You are of course correct but as it took 40 minutes to steam the pudding and 15 minutes to cook the chips I had already missed that window when I saw the finished article. Next time it looks like steaming two puds or just finding a bigger pudding at the start. Edit As an edition I remember having one of the nicest puddings at the Rockhouse when they were cooking before the pandemic. Not sure where Alex got the food but it was a fair size and delicious.

  33. Where i live, it already has moved to people taking responsibility instead of Government mandates for nearly everything. The last restrictions like forced isolation, contact tracing etc are mooted to go in the Summer. You want to wear a mask, do, indeed wear two if you like, if you want to avoid crowded areas, then do, if you don't want to use public transport or go on holiday, then don't, if you don't want to go to a restaurant and prefer takeaways, then do that. Do what you feel comfortable with, take some personal responsibility. Everybody already does it in life anyway, i mean if i'm walking down the street, in a bar, restaurant whatever, and i see a couple of nutters walking up towards me, then i'll take some personal responsibility and avoid them. Rocket Science it isn't. Whilst i appreciate some, the Lefties of the Board, want Gov to continue telling everybody what they can and can't do as much as possible, love big state, thankfully not everyone is like that. Governments don't mandate for the Flu other similar viruses, and now there is a wide range of treatments and vaccines for Covid, sooner or later most places in the world will move to dealing with Covid in the same way as they do with the flu or similar. Those that don't like that or are terrified of the thought, perhaps should consider moving to China where they'll have all the mandates they love and where people are told pretty much what they can and can't do around everything. Or stay in hiding behind the sofa with 4 masks on, whatever they feel comfortable with, take personal responsibility. Covid isn't going anywhere, most places have accepted the way out of this will be it will become endemic, those that want or need continual vaccines can get them and/or the various other treatments as needed, Gov mandates and restrictions will be lifted, forced self isolation, contact tracing etc will be a distant memory, people will get their lives back and do what they feel comfortable, take personal responsibility. Some seem to have forgot what life was like before this, the Gov induced fear is still strong in them. Not everyone wants the Government telling them when they can go out to the shop or not. Where i live anyway, we've moved to a taking personal responsibility and learning to live with Covid, which i'm very happy about. I understood and agreed with the need for all the restrictions before, but now the damage they do in all sorts of ways, to the economy, society at large, people's health etc etc is more than any perceived gain, now that we have the vaccines, many other treatments and a much less severe dominate strain. Personal responsibility and living with Covid, coming to a a town near you soon. I feel a Red Hot Chili Peppers song coming on in homage to a previous member ...

  34. I don't blame anyone. It's, easier to blame others than ourselves. BUT IF there has to be blame, then that lies ultimately with the leaders of those countries who adopted Covid policies. Not their advisers.

  35. New exchange booth Naklua Road near Dolphin Circus; I am not impressed with the rates. The Sabai Rooms Soapy is fenced off; I do not know what is happening to it. Let sleeping dogs lie in Soi 6. The pumps are back today. No significant damage to the beach after the rain this afternoon. Some isolated pockets of water collecting but nothing too problematic. Not many tour busses around these days.

DRAFT 1 "He moved to Pattaya in later life or Sin City as it is sometimes known .... " DRAFT 2 "He will be sorely missed in Soi Honey where he became so well known ...." DRAFT 3

  38. About 40 years ago i was the mechanic for a transport company that done UK - Middle East transport. I done two trips myself, one to Iraq and one to Saudi Arabia. But i also had quite a few trips over the years to various places on-route to repair a truck or trailer. One such instance was to replace a clutch in an MAN truck, it had been towed from Ankara in Turkey up to the Mocamp in Istanbul, which was a regular watering hole for many international drivers, they also had a phone and telex machine there which the drivers had use of. ( This is before the days of mobile phones ) After replacing the clutch and getting cleaned up, one of the drivers there suggested a trip into town, so the minibus arrived and off we went. First stop was the Pudding Shop ( Google it ) as the drivers wanted to see if there were any females there trying to 'thumb' a lift back to Western Europe as they often used to pay for their travel in carnal currency.... So after a few beers there we proceeded to what the drivers called Pig Alley. It is a long narrow dead end street lined both sides with windows behind which ladies displayed what they had to offer. We walked maybe 50 / 60 mtrs and stopped off at a small restaurant/bar for more Efes, one of the chaps had already gone "AWOL". I then learnt that the better looking and younger ladies were nearer the entrance of the alley, but as one walked further down the quality declined as did the cost of their service. It was also pointed out, which then became obvious as i looked about, that 99% of the men passing by us appeared to be local Turks, Rumanian, Bulgarian and Iraqi men as they cared little about looks and more about the cost !! I wanted to look further down the alley just to see what was there, but all the chaps i was with advised against it as it would likely haunt me for the rest of my days !! The first part of the alley, that we had walked to get here, i only saw 2 or 3 which held any attraction for me, but when the whole alley would make the King Kong seem like a Crystal Palace my appetite was for the Efes only. I wonder if Pig Alley is still there and if so whether it's still as dire as in those days ??? Unfortunately UK - Middle East haulage died a death many years ago, so i have nobody to ask......
