  1. I'd love an amnesty, let people like @code_slayer_bkk, @Ivan the Terrible, Thai Spice back again TBH. They were characters, we all f**k up now and again.

  7. Unfortunately, what they report has little or no bearing on the real figures due to the limited testing. The entry requirements are probably not going to change any time soon and that's what we really need to change.

  10. I met Code briefly once in the old Secrets bar in the company of a couple of other boardies and he seemed alright; later he left a note on my messenger to meet up in BKK but I unfortunately missed it - I often wonder what kind of night we would have ended up having! Seemed to me, reading his accounts of physical mayhem, that you could take the boy out of Brooklyn but you couldn't take Brooklyn out of the boy. I also made arrangements to meet up with Thai Spice who had planned to stay at the same hotel as me but one of his kids showed up at the last minute and dragged him off instead - too bad, I was looking forward to it as he always struck me as being an interesting guy.

  14. Brilliant news from Boris, whether it's to appease the Tory back benches and get them onside again or not - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60319947 Boris Johnson has said he plans to end all remaining Covid restrictions in England - including the legal rule to self-isolate - a month early. Under the current rules, anyone who tests positive must self-isolate for at least five days. The current restrictions are due to expire on 24 March. But Mr Johnson told MPs he expected the last domestic rules would end early "provided the current encouraging trends in the data continue". He said he intended to return after parliamentary recess - which is from 21 February - to outline the government's strategy for living with Covid. At the start of Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Johnson said: "It is my intention to return on the first day after the half-term recess to present our strategy for living with Covid. "Provided the current encouraging trends in the data continue, it is my expectation that we will be able to end the last domestic restrictions - including the legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive - a full month early."

  15. Which kind of supports the essence of this topic. I often used to wonder whether he was a "Walter Mitty" kind of character but I would never dream of directly suggesting that as I bruise very easily.

  16. Yup! Especially for a fat bastard like me! I have 2 bikes hanging up in my patio providing excellent support for climbing plants, snakes and birds nests. When I first moved down here many years ago I couldn't understand why my legs were so weak that I couldn't make it up Khao Talo. So I decided to cycle along railway road instead and was lucky to survive a pickup carrying loose rebar swinging from side to side. I have never ridden a bike since.....Interestingly since leaving "the village" I haven't driven a car nor rode a motorcye..... I miss none of it!

  19. Wow, that takes me back. My dad would listen to all the big band orchestras when I was a kid, and Glenn was his favourite. Used to like it myself. Mum was an Elvis fan. Moonlight Serenade was his favourite, and mine as well. We played it at his funeral. Thanks for the memories by posting it.

  20. Well....Having seen Celine Dion at Impact Arena, her first time ever in Thailand, I will go with her. I knew she was good ( matter of opinion I realize) but when you see her sing live, it's mind blowing really! This is one Canadian gal that has some "pipes" What's up with you Brit's? No Adele?? I also like Toni Braxton.

  23. Well, one of the times we were out together in Pattaya, he nearly turned an innocent situation into a potential nightmare with the Tourist Police. I was gob smacked with his attitude towards them. Fortunately I managed to drag him into Baby dolls to chill out. Lol.

  24. I do think that many people fall fail of posting whilst drunk, there are good drunks and some not so, just like in real life. Unfortunately a drunken rant once too often is the demise of many otherwise decent guys on forums.

Impossible to pick the best out of that lot!

  30. I never had the pleasure to see Bob live, unfortunately. Although your post mentioning the sax player helped me to recall the fantastic Bruce Springsteen shows (3 of them). I was lucky enough to snag first row seats on his Born to Run tour. Friggen incredible ! Each show he would pick a girl to come up and dance with him on stage for a tune. He picked the girl sitting next to me. It was awesome. And talk about his sax player. Wowser !

  34. On the theme of removing the boats. They push the trailer out as far as they can, then the boat drives onto it. After securing, the boat then drives the trailer up until it runs out of water. The front of the trailer is picked up so that the boat can drive it further. Then the tractor comes to drag it out.

  36. Me neither although we spoke on the phone a couple of times as I recall regarding posts of mutual interest. Code's posts unfortunately all too often gave one the impression that he was somebody that seemed to attract violence like a magnet. Most people, including me, spend a lifetime "generally" successfully trying to avoid conflict. I remember Code making a post on the subject of the use of a pencil as a tactical weapon. I use a pencil to do the crossword in my Daily Record. Thai Spice was a misogynistic drunk and a legend in his own mind.
