Wise is cheaper than UK Banks for transfers and it usually takes seconds to get there , I pay Wise using my debit card and authorise on the app , then get a confirmation from Bangkok Bank almost immediately

Think I just read something saying paying by card costs you an extra 2%?

How do you get your confirmation from Bangkok Bank, via their app or your UK number is connected to them?

I have Kasikorn online banking, though no app or number connected to it, UK or Thai?

I normally just bring cash, change at Super rich, deposit, withdraw at needed.

For £1k Manual transfer £6.38 , card £10.54 ( faster )  I usually go for card as it's more convenient

if yourThai account doesn't have phone number or email details , then you'll still get confirmation from Wise that the money has gone , but nothing from your Bank , money will still get there

So is Wise the best transfer service everyone uses going by this thread?

Might sign up and send some with the 44. Do it by Bank transfer via Wise, not by card via Wise, yea, or no difference?

There is a slight difference in cost of a couple of quid between using your card and using your bank. I always used either my credit card or debit card because it is so quick and easy. Then TSB did a software upgrade and f***d my life up such that I ended up using my bank which was slightly more cumbersome as Wise directs you to your bank and you go through the process of transferring money to them.

Whilst I was on holiday I closed my TSB account and opened up a Nationwide account. I will probably test things out next Friday with my new Debit card first...

I don't allow Wise to direct me to my bank and do it manually instead.  It just seems another potential point of weakness in security with, for example, my TSB sign-in being processed via Wise.  Still only takes seconds and money delivered in seconds.

Big fan of wise and i also choose the card option (10 rather 6 quid) which is generally received in seconds and at a great Xe rate.

Generally do this when in the Uk so if I’m thinking correctly I’ll switch on my thai phone and see the notification pop up on screen from kbank as the money lands.

@Krapow when you’renext in Thailand get the bank to help you set up the app on your phone. That way you can also top up your SIM card phone credit to ensure you keep your this number

I'll just log onto my Kasikorn account once Wise say it's gone, hopefully see it's 'arrived'.

They wanted me to set up the app last time I was in Thailand, but I said no, I don't always have the same number and have read it's a lot of hassle when you don't. I prefer just the card, luddite that I am!

If you fancy keeping your same number then I’d be inclined to set the app up and if you go annually to Thailand then you can just top up whilst in the country and then 3 or 4 times a year load in 100thb from the uk - you’d keep your sane number then and in credit when landed in Los.

just my thoughts 😊

I am enjoying the rise in the pound against the baht. I notice it is around 44.42 but I am getting 45 baht to the pound through a Thai friend of Porn's, who has a large amount of Thai baht in Thailand and likes to improve her £ balance here in Wales.

When it was officially 43, I was getting 44, I am now getting 45 and will soon, hopefully, get 46. I will still use Wise on occasions but it is nice to get an increased rate and not pay commission when using the Thai friend.

I am pleased that my trip in September is already paid for in terms of flight tickets, hotels and spending money. I might take an extra small wedge with me to ensure my trip is memorable. Not memorable in terms of girls but in terms of having a few special days treating myself at the Library room at Centara, Hua Hin, for afternoon tea and a meal and drinks at the Vana Nava Sky bar on the 27th floor of the Holiday Inn, Hua Hin. The rest of my time will be spent around the Soi 94/88 complex of bars and restaurants which will be close by my hotel at Initial on 94.

Ditto, logging on to your bank account via a third party web site doesn't sit well with me either.

Just joined Wise and sent £100 to my Kasikorn as a trial. Though i suppose now they have all my details via signing up, doesn't matter if it was only £1.00, if i was going to be robbed, they could do it.  Was actually going to stop it a couple of times, got paranoid with all the details they were looking. But double checked the site, reviews etc, so went ahead, though used my driving licence, not my Passport.

Anyways, so far so good, checked my Kasikorn A/C and it was pretty much instant, i just had to approve the transfer via my UK Bank app, as i do for mostly any online transaction these days, and i'm fine with -

That was really fast. Your money arrived in 4 seconds. And you saved up to 8.72 GBP, too.

Here’s a summary of that transfer. And if you need a proper receipt, you can download it from your Wise account.
Transfer details
Amount:
100 GBP
Rate:
44.414
Wise fee:
1.70 GBP

I've moved a couple of grand here while it's safely above 44 Baht. There's plenty of scope over the next two days for news that will put downward pressure on the pound. Tomorrow we will get the May 2023 CPI data, if it shows a larger fall than expected then that would put pressure on the BoE not to raise rates again, which would make the pound fall. Then on Thursday comes the next MPC announcement, widely expected to be a 0.25% rise in base rate. That much is already baked into the exchange rate, so anything less will hurt Sterling. A 0.5% rise, which some hawkish commentators like Roger Bootle at Capital Economics are suggesting, would be good for the pound but might not help it as much as you'd hope or expect. So I suspect for the time being, at least, 44 is about as good as we'll see. We'll probably need the Bank to keep on raising rates plus some good economic news for it to go above 45, but I hope I'm wrong and it does so anyway.

This should be good news for the pound, though not for the BoE or HMG! I just got this from The Times business briefing:

Consumer price inflation failed to fall last month, piling pressure on the Bank of England to raise rates by a larger-than-expected 50 basis points tomorrow to tackle stubbornly high prices.

The annual rate of consumer price index inflation was flat month-on-month at 8.7 per cent unchanged from April according to data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) this morning. City economists had expected an inflation reading of 8.4 per cent.

Core inflation — that strips out food, energy, alcohol and tobacco — rose to a higher than expected 7.1  per cent, the highest since 1992, up from 6.8 per cent last month. Economists had expected core inflation of 6.9 per cent.

Think it's already been priced in.

Overall it's not great news for the UK Economy, the £ has dropped today on the news.

But i'd be flying Business Class everywhere if i knew what currency markets are gonna do.

Wise is also down today, let's see tomorrow ...
