First attemp at cooking them for me. Any tips mate? Well, not sure if they are any tips .. but, I let them thaw out first ..... then I soak them in olive oil for 5 - 6 hours and just before I put them in the slow cooker I stuff them full of big chinks of garlic ..... and throw the olive oil they were soaking in ... into the slow cooker as well .... load them up with fresh ground pepper ... and let them cook 7 - 8 hours ..... Usually throw some broccoli, cauliflower and potatoes into the slow cooker the last couple of hours ...

Browned off in olive oil, fried onions and garlic, added tomatoes and puree. Then it broke my heart to add a large glass of red wine. Heated through and made up some stock with added thyme and parsley along with 3 bay leaves. It's now all in the slow cooker with some frozen veg. Lid just made it on. Lol. 3

Sorry mate just reading this thread now, seems to me you dont need any tips😃 When it comes to browning the shanks I find it easier to flour and oil them and pop them on a roasting tray and put them in a very hot oven for 10 to 15 mins, other than that when you were frying the onions and garlic I would have had some diced carrots and celery frying as well, I always use Rosemary as well as the parsly and thyme.

Thanks G, appreciate that. I have added mixed veg to the slow cooker so hopefully be OK. Rosemary will need to be purchased on my next visit to Tescos. This cooking lark is all new to me. 1
Thai Spice
Yesterday morning after the usual bread and grocery run, we had a stop at the Swedish place. I like the concept of their omelette menu, you compose your own omelette. Select one item of line 1, one item of line 2, and 2 items of line 3. As side dish you have choice between toast and salad. The omelettes are properly made, not the typical Asian one cooked in 2 cm of oil and dry / taste like cardboard. We even managed to have them cooked a bit liquid, as we like them. Ham, mushroom and bell pepper for the Miss (she dont like cheese in an omelette) Ham, mozarella, mushroom and sundried tomato for me Price is not bad at 59 K IDR (3,40 Euro / 125 Thb) 2 omelettes, 1 large Bintang, 1 large Ice tea total 203 K IDR ( 12 euro / 430 Thb) Today's lunch probably at the beach cantine. Life is good under the sun ! 1

Horizondave
Just eaten my lamb shanks which were cooked in the slow cooker from frozen due a fan problem in the lower oven. Absolutely beautiful but if I had taken a photo it would have looked like Binlid's offering the other day. Lamb shanks with paprika and garlic roasted potatoes and mixed veg. Great combination and the lamb (slow cooked) just fell off the bone. Bought the frozen duo of lamb shanks from Tesco which were sourced from either New Zealand or the GB; whatever they were some of the best I have tasted and that might be because I slow cooked them. Porn's plate was totally devoid of even a piece of veg or potato, she wanted more, happy to oblige on another occasion.
Popular Post boydeste
It's been a lamb shank weekend by the looks of it. Due mainly to me getting drunk and sleeping very late today, mine had 18 hours in the slow cooker. The meat was very tender and tasty. I served it on a bed of mash. Over all I am pleased with my first attempt. My only disappointment was the mint jelly that I bought thinking it was the same as mint sauce. Even so I ended up with an empty plate. Blimey, I put mine in the slow cooker at 1000 am with a half glass of water and took them out at 1545.......they were perfectly cooked, had them on high for most of the cooking time with the last 45 mins on medium. I usually put the cooker on around 10 and eat at 1800. I heard that you can't cook them for too long, so I went for the over night on low. Being very much a novice cook, I am feeling my way slowly. Next job is to learn how to make a good gravy to go with them, oh and to buy some proper mint sauce!
