farangme
Well, she cooked this for us the other day. Kung pao shredded chicken. This is the Scottish version that's popular here. If you've tried it you'll know how good it is. Different from the English and other ways they cook it. My favorite stretch of beach here, 10 min drive from my place. Not too touristic, just busy enough. Several restaurants offering decent food . john luke
A light meal. French onion soup with an added dumpling. Some cheese rolls for after. Yogurt to conclude. I lived in Portlethen for many years and loved the Asda in-store version of Kung Po chicken. Portlethen has a giant Asda right beside the A90 and I lived just a few hundred yards away from it, so it was my local store. I'm very disappointed nowadays when I try Kung Po chicken down south, whether it's an in-store version or thr stuff in a jar that you make yourself. The Scottish version is indeed far superior. I agree. In England the Kung Pao is a very simple affair, they use soy sauce, sugar and vinegar as the base. In Scotland they mix three sauces together. Two shop bought and one made from scratch. The curry and other sauces are so much better than what you buy down south. Last year we ate Chinese in Leeds and Blackpool and it was shockingly terrible. The beef stank of baking soda. They had used too much and not cleaned it off. The curry sauce was tasteless water. The Chinese chefs up here are pretty good. Where my Wife cooks, there's always would be Chinese takeaway owners coming in for recipes and training. They pass it on between friends and family. And they come in from all over Scotland.
