Washedup Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Where do you go..I'll be taking the parents down to Cornwall..stay in a cottage 1
coxyhog Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 We've never really been into UK holidays but I've got an old mate from the RAF who has a guest house in Torquay who I want to go & stay with. But it's more about a few beers with him & his missus than a holiday. 1

I made a rule 5 or 6 years ago that I won’t ever travel abroad again in the summer, one of the best decisions I ever made and have seen some fantastic parts of the UK I would never have visited otherwise. 5

I should've read the title of the thread properly,we've never been on summer holidays, just winter ones to Thailand.
Washedup Posted February 7, 2021 Author Posted February 7, 2021 Hope to discover the scilly isles..if allowed in
galenkia Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Poole beginning of September for my birthday would be good. Gonna have to start looking as demand in the UK will be higher than normal. 1

Stillearly Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Had a great time a few years ago , three nights on a canal boat , it was a " team building " exercise rather than a holiday , but would love to do it again , can't remember the exact route we did but it was around the Leighton Buzzard area https://www.canalholidays.co.uk/canal-holidays/short-break-canal-holidays/3-4-day-cruises we moored near a different pub each night , had a decent meal and a few drinks , breakfast and lunch on board the boat 2 2
Painter Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 My boating mate and I are talking about getting a different boat, one with a cabin and facilities, with a view to exploring the south coast by water. Problem is, so are too many others! 1 1

Gonna have to start looking as demand in the UK will be higher than normal. For 15 years in a row I went for the first complete week in September with 3 mates to that area (Bournemouth Hotel) and always played golf at Parkstone at least once each week which is in the Poole district. We also fished the Stour and Avon and went to the casino most nights. And then got pissed back at the Hotel whilst playing 3 card brag. 🤣 The weather was virtually always perfect. Never went again after my first trip to Thailand. I realised what I spent each night at the Casino would buy me in Thai pussy vouchers. Edited February 8, 2021 by Jambo 1 2
roomark Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Looking more and more likely.. Only live an hour from the lakes so planning on doing a few peeks this summer did Old Man Of Coniston last summer and loved it . I've never been to Devon or Cornwall so may even take a long drive down there. 1 1

Being from Lancs originally myself used to do the Lakes a lot, only discovered Devon/Cornwall 4 or 5 years back it really is a great place to go on holiday. Dorset as per my pics above is really worth a visit as well, nearly as nice as Devon/Cornwall but a much shorter and more manageable drive than down to St Ives etc. Also done the west of Scotland, Northern Norfolk, North and central Wales, Northumbrian coastline and SE Scotland in recent years, you really forget what a beautiful country we live in sometimes. ☺️ 3

RR007 Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Mum and Aunty own two chalets in the South Hams overlooking Plymouth Sound As kids in the 60's and 70's we'd spend all spring and summer over there literally 200 metres from the beaches but as we got older it was just the occasional weekends. Last spring/summer because of Covid I stayed there for 6 months in mums and I'd forgotten how brilliant it is. Even if Thailand eventually opens I will only be going autumn/winter in the future Contrast in photo on a hot day compared to a wet and windy one !! 1

galenkia Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Earlier I booked 3 nights in Poole from 31st August for my birthday. £150 in a guest house about a kilometre from the sea. Free cancellation up until 3 days before check-in so no risk of losing money, plus don't have to pay for the room until 25th August anyway. 3
Lantern Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 When I was last in the UK (early 80's) used to line my holidays up with the Glastonbury and Stonehenge festivals.
Krapow Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Thinking of heading down to Bracknell in the Summer, hang out with the local bikers, get wild and do some shoplifting with them at Waitrose. Heard this is the standard kinda mean machine they ride! Someone mentioned to wear huge Bros earrings to proper fit in, but that would be too embarrassing, surely 😲 1
