Just finished installing a new cooker hood. took the old one down (disgusting) only to find it was fed with 2 core and double insulated. The new one is 3 core and needs to be earthed.

As a result I've had to feed a wire through to the fuse, I had no spare 3 core so had to cut up an extension lead. I've only just realised that I cut up the wrong lead, I used my mates instead of my own. He's going to bloody kill me.

16 years worth of gopping oil, grease and crud all jammed up in the motor and ducting.

Yuk. Never again.

Just obtained my Thai insurance to cover covid hospital fees and registered for the Thailand Pass.

All seemd to be straight forward enough as I had taken a bit of time to properly prep my documents in advance.

Emailed received immediately confirming the application with my code and a link to check the progress.

Now lets see how long it takes and whether there is a problem!

Not sure if I've missed it @boydeste - who are you flying with?. Was there any issue getting the dates you wanted mate?.

Also, do you want to buy half an extension lead 🙂  ?

Flying with Qatar, no problem with dates.

The extension lead offer has gone straight over my head, please explain?

87 minutes to receive the Pass code, that's impressive.

Now off out for a 3 mile walk and a few pints in my local to celebrate.

Glad ya got it sorted.

Hoods normally run from a fused spur, hope you fitted the required cable size as extension leads are not normally large enough!

Getting ready to go get my Covid19 booster shot.  Back in March, I got the single-dose J & J shot and will now get a Moderna injection.  Standard medical advice is to "mix and match" the Covid19 vaccinations.  I'll also get my annual flu shot at the same time.  It's apparently no problem to take at the same time.

I've been back in the U.S. since February, 2020,  and haven't had a cold, the flu or any other type of seasonal sniffle since then.  The last time I had a cold was in Pattaya in September, 2019.  I put that down to my very limited contact with people outside my family and wearing a mask every time I go out.

Apparently what works against Covid19 works against the common cold and flu.

Waiting for a nice thick slab of baby back ribs slow cooking in the oven. Got em for less than $3/pound. Nice meaty ones, very excited !

I tell you what mate, I'd love to find a place in Pattaya that sells baby back ribs that has a good inch of meat on them but I think they just don't feed the pigs well enough before slaughter ....(a bit difficult to feed them well after slaughter of course!)

Further to my previous posts on Saturday about my wife's visit to Trinity College Cardiff to take her B1 test and the subsequent email saying they had withheld her result due to being unable to confirm the person taking the test and the person on the Biometric Residence Permit were the same we have now received an update.

Thankfully it has now been through their security and they have decided that the female that I escorted with my daughter to Cardiff is indeed my wife, I am very happy with that confirmation, I was getting concerned.

The result will now be released within the next 48 hours and we are hopeful this will be confirmed as a positive.

I did an early morning grocery shopping trip downtown, been putting it off for days but looking at yesterday's news from southern British Columbia convinced me to get going because thanks to heavy rains there, all major roads in and out of Vancouver are closed due to floods and landslides, and guess where most of our food comes from? I think the supermarkets will be very busy here today...

Having got all my new radiators working nicely, I decided to run some cleaner acid through the system again to make sure all of the previously blocked pipes were totally clean.

This acid can only be in the system 12 hours max, then has to be totally removed. Having taken an eternity to get all of the air out of the system, I tried to flush each leg through with fresh water instead of draining, then it started to play on my mind that if I didn't get it all out, it may cause a problem whilst I am away in Thailand. Knowing that I should do the job properly, I took the hit and drained the whole system down. It has taken all afternoon to bleed the air out sufficiant enough for all but one radiator to get hot. Now I am hoping the remaining rad will clear over night as I plan to put an inhibitor in tomorrow.

Time for my daily walk and I might treat myself to a couple of beers to congratulate myself for not being lazy!

Just about to put my trainers on and the boiler created some steam hammer, which I hate, but I knew that the air trapped in the pipes feeding the cold rad had just pushed through.

All rads are now hot, so I have turned down the TRVs on the upstairs ones and turned the pump speed down to minimum, see how it is after my walk.

Adjustable pump? I've got a Megaflow system with a grundfos CH pump, is that what the small plastic lever on the rear side is for?. not buggered about with it because I don't know what it does, but I've replaced a Danfoss 3 way valve actuator in the past and it was a pig of a job, bloody wires everywhere. lucky I took a photo before embarking on it.

I did in fact get my sparky mate round yesterday to double check my hood installation, as I could well do without the wife earthing 240 volts as she turns it on. The flex was absolutely fine he said, he gave it a pat test and told me not to take up being an electrician as a full time job, because despite it being perfectly well installed, I am still "f*cking clueless".

It was his lead which I cut up, although I didn't tell him until after he'd tested everything. Got him a new one though, plus a bottle of vino to stop him moaning. Ungrateful c*nt doesn't like the Lambrini either. (he's still my best mate though, I'll just get him some Blue Nun next time.).

Good to hear their security was able to confirm what you and your wife already knew.

I had the thought of what I would do if in a similar situation and figured I'd play their own game against them. Plenty of sites out their now with free online applications, facial recognition being one of them. A quick search led me to this site, so I would have fired up my smarter than me smart phone, accessed the site and let it prove to them software is better at making a facial match than the MK1 eyeball.

Tried it out on a photo of friend taken several years apart. In one he's sporting just a mustache, in the other he has a goofy monkey hat on and has a goatee. Software said their was an 80.5% match, which I thought was pretty good considering the differences in photos. I'd expect a higher result using recent photos that are taken for purposes of proof of identity.

Most recirculating pumps such as the Grundfos have 3 speeds. The older ones had a lever type switch, but the modern ones have a push button.

Suffering from a hangover... unplanned meet-up with a couple of friends..

one has a TG ( she's widowed and was already over here when they met )  they were in London recently with another couple and the girls wanted to pop off shopping... she said she wanted to buy some "gym shoe"  , nothing unusual about that as she keeps fit and goes running .. he handed over his credit card and said I'll treat you , she was very excited and gave him a big hug ... about an hour later the girls came back to the pub , with a bag that had the words Jimmy Choo on it .... 555

Hope he ain't short of a bob or two, or he will be now. LOL
