  3. Glass, my first job right out of San Jose State, was working for a company called "Northern Telecom" My boss was about 5 years older then me right? He bought a brand new 260Z. We had to go to other offices in a city called "Mt. View" I was completely blown away when we got on the freeway how "quick" that 260Z was! I wanted one, never got it. John, I went on Saturday, it was crowded, I thought the vibe was not as good as it was before, even with all the people there, but I still enjoyed the show none the less. Had not been to one of these since 2018, so not sure if it is fair to compare you know? I think with most things "Thailand" I hate to say this but......things were a bit more "lively" years back. Will see the "Bangkok Auto Salon" show in June with all the "jacked up" Japanese imports these guys bring to show and the girls will be less conservatively dressed I think.

  4. I've been keeping in touch with a friend from my hometown who is visiting Thailand and Pattaya for the first time - he's a Brit but has been living in Canada for many years. He spent all of last winter in Mexico and can't stop telling me how much more he enjoys it here, says Pattaya just blows him away. He made the mistake of lining up a gf on one of the Thai dating sites before he came over, against my advice, and has been touring around a little with her on her days off from her restaurant job but has managed to have a little fun on the side as well. He's just doing the massage thing so far - leery of inviting girls to his room and no barfines as yet, indeed I don't think he has been out and about that much at night time. I haven't been helping much in that regard, due to my recent bout of laryngitis and a couple of visiting upcountry gf's tying up my time but now that they have left and my voice has returned I hope to get him out some night. On his second day here I did spend some day time with him, taking him to TQ for our first stop which really blew him away, especially when one of the hottest girls there recognized me immediately after three years and was all over me. After that it was off to Soi 6 for a wander down the street and another epiphany on his part, after which we parted ways for the day - it's hard to be a tour guide when you can hardly speak. I'll continue his familiarization over the next week or two, off and on, and am interested to see how the online gf thing eventually works out for him - I think he's already regretting it but she has been kind to him so far and not demanding so we'll see....

  5. Italian themed Frittata. Topped with mozzarella, Romano, cheddar, pepperoni, and mushrooms. In the base beef Bolognese (non pimped), Parmesan, mozzarella. The result was a bit runnier than I hoped for but my family gave it thumbs up and scooped it up with tortilla chips.

  7. You guys might have wondered why they got rid of all the brand packaging on cigarettes in Thailand...Well I think there were 2 reasons for this... #1...(And this was a minor reason) was to make more room for the horrible anti-smoking pictures.. #2..(And the main reason)....After they eliminated the brand packaging....All the cigarettes started to taste the same to me...I think they now just do one or two or three massive massive tobacco mixes in huge batches and then put pretty much the same tobacco is all brands... Absolutely for sure this is happening with the cheaper brands, and they still might be putting a slightly better tobacco in the expensive brands but I am pretty certain the quality of ALL cigs sold in Thailand has dropped quite a bit from 10 years ago... All this increases their profit margin a lot... You can see for yourself today this is true......Buy a pack Krong Tip.....Krong Tip use to be the strongest cigs in Thailand of major brands.......And they sure did pack a punch....And now......In my opinion they are not much different from all the rest....

  8. There are a few vloggers that pedal around Buokow, Tree Town, LK, and Made in Thailand beer bar areas with I guess a Go Pro attached to their helmet or a shoulder strap of some kind, to crank out content for their YT channels. As much as I enjoy watching their videos, I sometimes find them repetitive as it's always the same scene, same bars, same girls, or LB's, etc. and I can certainly imagine them being a bit of a nuisance with so much pedestrian traffic intermixed with motos and baht bus taxis, etc. I'm now less than 3 weeks out from being right smack dab in the middle of the madness. Can't wait! 😁

  13. Brook's ton was the 21st England ton in the calendar year, the first time in history that England have exceeded 20. Also when Robinson bowled Babar in the second innings it was the first time in test history that a number 3 batsman had been bowled twice in a match by the same bowler without scoring a run off him.

  14. Hit the car show here at Impact last Saturday. Was good, the usual manufactures were there, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Isuzu, Mazda etc. The high end cars like BMW, Lexus, Maserati, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bentley, Audi, Mercedes Benz were all there too. Few Electric Vehicle manufactures were there, but not Tesla? Hmmm…. There were some great Motorcycles with all the big players and some vintage Cars and Boats too…..big ones! Had a good time as always, the models were on their game and talked to a few of them after they do their routine. The BMW gal tells me she does this to make extra money to pay off her school loans and is working on her MBA. She works in Marketing for a “Public Relations Firm” Can tell…..her English is perfect Nice gal.. Just like the Ford Gal, she too told me she is finishing college soon and wants to work in Finance. Girl was adorable... @lazarus Well Matt, your "Gik" was not there....the lovely Nong Natt.....as was rumored on some of the local Social Media sites. I was disappointed 😞

  20. Tennessee v. Garner, U.S. Supreme Court Ruling - https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/471/1/ The key ruling on shooting a fleeing felon. Basically one of the most significant rulings related (in the U.S.) to police conduct (or misconduct). Any cop who is properly trained should have had this pounded into his head. How it applies to private citizens in Thailand, I have no clue. But, I would reckon it is probably not a good thing to do.

  24. Getting off topic a little, this also pertains to resolving an estate upon death. I live in Thailand full time. I made a decision to leave my Thai assets to my long time TGF. My US assets go to my sons. The US assets are the larger component of my overall holdings. Anyway, I have two wills in place. Each states explicitly that the will only covers the assets in a particular country. I have spoken to my sons and gotten their agreement not to challenge the Thai side of things, as that will probably only succeed in pissing away what Thai assets I have on lawyer, travel, and court fees. They agree and said they feel lucky that some lady rather than themselves is looking out for my ornery old ass. 🙂 The resolution of my US will should be simple. All assets are financial holdings that can be directly released to my sons without need of probate. All's that they will require is a Death Certificate. I have explained to the TGF and my oldest son how to communicate with each other via Line, telephone, and email. Each year after tax season I post my current info to a shared Google area, so that my sons have available the current state of things. The Thai resolution will be much more difficult. Probate is required and according to what I have been told is quite slow. I have advised the TGF that when the time comes, she should go back to the lawyer who drafted the will and have him handle the probate for her. I have several additional concerns related to this topic. How does one put a Thai DNR in place? I do not want dwindling financial resources used to keep me breathing in a veg state. How is a body released to a TGF? I just want her to cremate me, not ship a corpse around the world. I would marry her to ease all of this, but that creates legal issues on the US side. I hear that a Farang death for a person under the age of 80 requires an autopsy. Who pays for that? The entire process seems quite murky.

  25. One more example of how f***d up things that can happen - bank related. Not only in LOS but everywhere. I keep pounding away at this. Folks need to be on top of such things constantly and review all aspects and considerations on a regular basis. Have diverse access to funds and prep. plans (plans A, B, C and D). **** A consideration for those considering the 800 k requirements. Use a reputable visa service (a legit law firm, not some "fly by night" visa service) and pay the fee for the service to do it (IMO it's worth paying the fee to lower your risk). That way your own money will not be stuck in some account that they have control over. As a precaution for if they ever change the rules pertaining to that option have the dosh set aside in a safer home account that can be used in the event they change the rules. Then if you do find yourself in a circumstance where you have to provide the 800 k yourself seek the advice of a lawyer so that you can go with something that provides the most protection possible when the time comes to recover those funds when necessary.
