I'm not familiar with the current travel or hotel protocols in the UK, but is it not possible at the current time to so much as board a train to some other city for just a few days to "get away from it all", so to speak, reserve a room at a hotel or guest house and at least give your mind, body and soul, a "holiday" from the surrounding environment you have been staying in? Breath in some fresh air, see different faces, chat with different people, walk down different streets, view different scenery? Are there even accommodations available now in the UK for what I guess would be termed, "non-essential travel"? If that is a no go right now, I meant no disrespect. I lost my father just a week or so before your mum, and for a few days alone in the house, it wasn't the best of times. But at least I had a job to still go to which helped immensely to take my mind off my family situation. Taking to the road can be just the proper tonic to ease the mind. Hope that time can come sooner for you rather than later. For all of us, no matter what our personal circumstances might be. Thanks for your post Mr. Smooth and I appreciate your comments. There is no disrespect either so don't worry about that. I could do what you suggest, to a point but right now the most upsetting thing to me is that 3 weeks on from my mums passing I've only had a couple of visitors. I fully understand why BTW. Everybody is scared shitless and even I have broken the rules by visiting my daughter and my grandchildren. Just a change in scenery benefitted me. I'm not about to travel within the UK alone because its not permissible. I'll just have to stick it out here at home. Tbh, I've lost my father, younger brother and now my mum in the space of 8 short years and this last couple of months have been the most upsetting in my life. More so because of this C19 lock down. Hopefully I will come out of all this a stronger person...... But I'll have to contend with all the sentimental stuff in between. Right now the only people I really want to be with is my TW in Sweden. Thanks for your really nice post. 3

Even in countries where they allow you to self-quarantine at home, though, you'd be daft to break the rules. In Canada it's a fine up to $750,000 for breaking your isolation, and even in weak-kneed old Britain the proposal I read was an unlimited fine for a second breach. Currently 2 weeks isolation in a hotel on arrival in Oz, at the government's expense. You are not allowed out of your room, they jailed one bloke for breaking that a couple of weeks ago. If you arrive in the wrong city, it could mean a second 2 weeks if you have to go to a different state, although this is slowly being lifted. In the state I live in (Western Australia), there are regional restrictions on top of closed state borders. Sometimes I have to go through police roadblocks to get to where I am working on a given day.

Not many visitors, that is for citizens and people with an appropriate visa. Mostly people arriving on repatriation flights. The borders are currently closed, although the federal government are pushing to change this. Those escaping the floating petri dishes (cruise ships) also had to go through quarantine before being escorted to planes going to their home countries or states often to go through quarantine again. There was a major outbreak as a result of guests from a cruise liner, Ruby Princess, being allowed ashore in January/February (?) resulted in over 30 deaths and literally hundreds of cases around the world as they were allowed to get on planes. Given the total death toll in Australia is now at 102, that is a significant %. 1

Brilliant phrase I'm going to nick that one .............. 'floating petri dishes''. Read some research lately too that says they use really heavy fuel to power the engines that is filthy and causes lung diseases if you are near the funnels or downwind. Can see flights resuming somehow but fuckin cruise liners ...🛳️..... not in my lifetime. 🚢

I was really looking forward to this cruise but the missus is refusing to go. I have asked for a refund but have heard nothing back so far. Hi Aqualung, As you're aware, I'm in exactly the same position as yourself, losing my mum a few weeks ago. It's tough being stuck at home - I'm currently living in my mum's house, getting everything sorted. I've only had 1 visitor too, my brother, who is helping getting this sorted. Technically that's been against the "rules" too I guess, as he's from a different household. I've hardly been out, walking to the shops once a week. Everything else has been delivered and I've spent more on Amazon in the last 8 weeks than I have over the last 8 years. We had mum cremated, we'll have a memorial and scattering of ashes when lockdown is eased more. I have her ashes at the house, along with my dad's, who died 25 years ago but my mum kept them here. So I have mum and dad side by side in a cubby hole that's above the hallway. So I'm with you mate and fully understand how you're feeling. I keep myself busy during these lockdown times by planning what I'm going to do next, knocking up business plans/spreadsheets and to wile away a few hours I'm doing some jigsaw puzzles. My mum had a bunch of them stashed away and I've enjoyed doing them. I've even ordered a couple more from Amazon that will arrive this week. Hang in there bud, things will ease and improve. 4

I used to have a fantastic train set when I was a kid. Would love to set one up now, but not practical and what would I do with it if/when I return to Thailand? But only with the small balls. Those big ones were cumbersome and couldn't smash it in the top corner. I had leagues and cup competitions, loads of teams. Funny how my team always won the league . . . 😀

RR007
Inbound quarantine back into the UK is only in 3 weeks segments reviewed for first time three weeks after June 8th. I have a good mate in Dubai, will go stay with him for 14 nights if necessary, then fly on to Bangkok. In any case, while it's all doom and gloom right now, my opinion is that in a few weeks many countries will relax their "rules", especially where tourism is an important factor.

Nightcrawler
I am happy to wait for a while until airlines are up and running and I feel safe to fly. I would hope that by that time, that c19 cases have dropped to triple figures or less in UK, Thailand has lifted it's 14 day quarantine and most importantly, that Pattaya is open for business including nightlife, otherwise I would not head there anyway. If not I will probably head to Malta force couple of weeks in Autumn, travel permitting That said, I have kinda resigned myself that might not get out to Thailand this year. My health and wellbeing come first before a holiday The good thing is that on forums like this and Local Thai press, we can keep a constant eye on what is happening on the ground both in Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket etc as well as what is going on with Thai immigration rules.
