  1. My great hero Luther Blissett posted this on FB today: You may be surprised to learn this but when Love they Neighbour was on tv I sat with my family and we laughed. We recognised it was comedy, not malicious, reflecting life at that time and satirising the way some people behaved. Showing uncomfortable stereotypes and behaviour. On both sides.

  9. I buy the beer and softies for hash runs from the distributor, L.K. Trademart, near the corner of Pattaya Tai and 3rd Rd (map link). They deliver for free to my house. Here's a link to their price list I scanned last year. Includes beer as well as the hard stuff.

  16. Back in the mid-1990s when I was a river guide in the Idaho wilderness, bears would come around our camp at the put-in (the night before the guests arrived). This was our 'party night' and we used to chuck full beer cans at 'em (unopened). Hamm's, of course.

  17. Luther Blissett massive cult hero in Italian football .... Milan....??.. watched an episode on YouTube recently and was jaw dropping in its language but had a hilarious ending about ghosts and witchcraft. Usually the white guy as the stooge and fool. Can't quite see Channel 4 or BBC 2 bringing it back any time soon ....

  20. I'm more of the mind that the virus was result of an ongoing evolutionary process. Things change naturally. Often for the bad. Covid-19 is just one more mutation. It could have started in the US (as the Spanish Flu of 1918 did). In terms of response, it was/is all over the map (no pun intended). Different governmental structures, politics, the media, health care systems, individual opinions and biases -- all have come into play. Our little forum of old farts from different places and backgrounds is a microcosm of this. Stay healthy.

  21. Well i still miss TS, CSB and ITT, bloody shame they had to go imo. When forums are only made up of yes men blowing smoke up each others asses they become very boring very quickly imo. Getting back to the topic title i sincerely hope Changfai from the Secrets board is nothing like his board persona in real life.

  22. Just booked 3 economy returns LHR-MNL for the School holidays in April, everywhere else was £1800+ (including all the ME options). Singapore came in at £944 per person (3 adults). I've checked their prices for Bangkok in May, not half bad at all, between £450 - £700 depending upon the type of econ ticket. Their PE came in at £1500 return but Business outward and PE back came in at £1910. Never flown with Singapore Airlines before, I've heard their economy is half decent. It's also possible to "bid" for an upgrade, currently from econ to PE one way (for the return journey) is between £200 to £400 per person (£400 giving a very good chance of the upgrade). Business with Singapore for dates in September are coming in at exactly £2000. Not a bad fare at all really.

  23. Very sad indeed, brought back memories of that great song. My next door neighbour Bill Eyden played the drums on the recording of Whiter Shade Of Pale, got 15 guineas for the session but no royalties. This was many years ago when I was a nipper when I used to play outside with his son. His son sadly died in a motorbike accident aged 17, he needed blood but his mother, a Jehovah witness, refused and he died. Bill and his wife occasionally baby sat for me and my brother when my mother was at work..

  28. Pre Covid I have used them for flights between BKK and SIN; I have always travelled economy on these short haul flights. More expensive than Scoot, Air Asia and similar low cost airlines, but a totally different and professional service offered. Food drink and one check in case was included in the ticket price. Obviously in economy no priority check in, priority boarding or lounge access, but the set up at Changi airport is generally so efficient (almost regimented) that you are not stood in long queues for any length of time. Fantastic and clean airport at Singapore too. I must admit since Covid manifested itself I am missing the short trips from Thailand into Singapore.

  31. The problem is that a lot of people are bertie big bollocks from behind the safety of a keyboard and will not back down until actually proven wrong or challenged in person, whereupon they become shrinking violets or put up an emoji or somesuch tosh. all of a sudden they go quiet or less provocative for a while, then start again. It's in their nature. Cowardly acts of verbal aggression to make up for their own personal shortfalls. In some ways, this is when guys like Codeslayerbkk are missed on a forum, although a slightly abrasive persona, he wouldn't stand for people making statements such as the one highlighted in your post @Derek Dangleberries and would call them out on it. (although I know it was on a different forum and our Mods wouldn't entertain such behaviour) This is the Internet though guys. I'll have good money we can all remember a time before it and probably look upon those days with a slight nostalgia and wry smile.

  32. Well, as the old saying goes - "a fed bear is a dead bear" - this creature is way beyond redemption, I am afraid, and is not long for this world no matter how sentimental his victims may be. In my neck of the woods he would have been dealt with after the first break-in - the authorities do try to trap and relocate them, but we've had cases where grizzly bears have been moved over 60km away but were back in the same neighbourhood two or three days later.
