why is the world going nuts

QUESTION for doctors on the forum/medical members, why is Corona virus more important than the flu?

in the USA CDC Estimates

for Oct 2019- Feb 2020

Flu illness

34,000,000 to 49,000,000.

flu medical visits,

16,000,000 to 23,000,000.

flu hospitalizations,

350,000 to 620,000.

flu deaths,

25,00 to 52,000.

how many world wide is Corona virus?

100,000+ infected

and 1000 deaths?

so I think if I lived in USA I would be more worried about the flu, than corona virus.cause the socialist looney left will go on like they do about the alleged "climate change" Trump did it

Well wait until this time next year when covid-19 is endemic and there are 100,000,000 cases, 50,000,000 medical visits, 1,000,000 hospitalisations and 100,000 deaths in the US and you might understand.

Then again, you probably won't.

Am at a loss as to why all air travel has not been curtailed already. Its needs to be locked down country by country otherwise the outcome will be as @fygjam rightly says

Air travel is simply exacerbating the problem hugely

It's not the flu.

It's much more contagious than the flu.

It's many times more lethal than the flu.

No one has natural immunity to this, like they do with the flu.

At present, there is no vaccine for this, there is for the flu.

This is new, no one knows exactly the whole ins and outs, like they do with the flu.

The figures for the flu are not comparable at present, this is only 'live' a few months.

Do people think Governments are just taking these measures because they're bored or for a laugh ffs. They want a potential full on worldwide recession, loads of businesses going bust etc.

Trump, Socialist looney left, Jesus Christ have a day off with that shite ffs.

Yes a lot of it is still precautionary as there are do many unknowns.

But I've watched virologists, who study these things day in, day out, know infinitely more about them than anyone on here, say this is isn't the flu, this much more deadly for various reasons.

and yes the socialist and looney left loons are blaming Trump for the spread,

what iam saying the common old flu is killing people a lot faster than the corona virus.

aand yes its is goverments who have allowed the spread,by expecting the citizens are going going to keep to self isolation,we have had a number of people who did not go straight into isolation ,but one went shopping for stores first, another a fucking doctor went work.

now they should be lock up in the local nuthouse.this virus is caught the same way as the flu.

me iam just going to get on with living my normal life.

dear Mr loon

I well understand that this virus has got the world in a mad panic, led by people who should know better, but not that you would care.

this time next year you can jump on the "I told you so" bandwagon, while i will just give thanks to who ever kept me safe,

mainly myself

Good man! Be sure not to bother washing your hands, and I hear that people from northern Italy and South Korea are really great company, spend as much time with them as you can. Good luck to you!

Air travel is simply exacerbating the problem hugely

A HUGE amount of mail and cargo is also transported on commercial flights.....So if there is very little air travel then that would be a disaster for world commerce....

Countries that depend on tourist like Thailand are and will be severely impacted...

So what will the Thais do for jobs....

The men I don't know what they will do...

The older women I don't know what they will do....

The younger women.....Well its not to hard to figure out what a lot of them will be doing...

You're not really getting this, too many punches to the head when younger :default_biggrin:

This is new, countries either haven't got or are only now getting a small exposure of it.  You can't compare how many people it is currently killing with the flu which is worldwide, everywhere, for many, many years. How could you, it doesn't make sense to do it like that.

What you would have to do is the mortality rate.

The 'common flu' that you and others keep quoting has about 0.1% death rate.

Coronavirus currently has a death rate of between 1 and 2.5%. So that would make it at very least 10 times as deadly.

Now, 'common flu' has a RO value of about 1.3, that's how contagious it is.

Coronavirus has a RO value of between 2 and 3. So it's at least twice as contagious.

So the only reason the common flu is killing more people is because it is much, much, much more widespread.

If Coronavirus gets as widespread, it will be devastating.

Am I worried about Coronavirus, no!

I'm healthy, indeed just back from the gym, lead a very healthy lifestyle. I'd kick f**k outta it. Probably get it and not even know. Wife is healthy as well.

Also seems children are not really in danger from it, so not worried about my daughter.

Only thing i'm worried about is my upcoming travel plans, Turkey in 2 months, Thailand in June. Flights getting pulled, no access to the countries of compulsory self isolation or quarantine. Though tourism is massive for both countries, so I don't think it will get to that stage.

My parents are both in their 70's, both have had the flu numerous times in the past few years. Was I concerned, not in the least. Well, slightly for my Dad, as he has other ongoing health issues.

If either contracted coronavirus would I be worried, yes, extremely.

See the difference?

Do I think this outbreak will be under control this time next year or in a couple of years, yes I do, judging by past outbreaks, advances in medical science, and a vaccine probably being found.

Is there a lot of scaremongering and nonsense being put out there about this virus, undoubtedly.

I'm just continuing with my normal life until the Government who know much more about this than me, tell me to change it in some way for our overall safety.

But, there is so much unknown about this virus still, no one can say with any certainty what's going to happen. I think it's right too err on the side of caution.

You can't just leave hundreds of thousands of people stranded all around the world me thinks! Not to mention the impact of not being able to import or export supplies like medical equipment and other important stuff that we take for granted day to day.

"New", as was EVERY virus when it appeared the first time....

This one is just the latest "new". There will probably be a new "new" before the end of the year, and the media will be able to pick on that one...

My original post could have been better. All leisure travel I was implying. People would be given a deadline I suppose ??

The airlines have made it clear already that they're only continuing to fly right now because of slot preservation. EU are already reviewing that this coming Monday to see if it can be waived for all airlines

only for us old bastards or the already ill.

I have never had the "flu" had some very heavy colds, worked outdoors most of my life as kid on the land, then in construction all my adult life, must have had good genes.

it's only now in my old days I have some minor health problems, and if I go down with this new virus,it will because some c**t,like that doctor in Melbourne has not done the right thing.

but iam I not going let the fear of catching this new virus rule my life,NO FUCKING WAY.

I have always had a healthy and very hygiene way of life

if the quacks would give a clearance to fly I would be back in LOS as soon as yesterday.

do not let the bastards get you down

And therein lies the problem. You might kick the fxxk out of as you so eloquently put it, but what happens if in the meantime you contract it and then when you are back home visiting your folks you pass it on to Ma & Pa. That's the scenario that worries me most and is the reason I chose not to visit Thailand at this time. I'm healthy so would reasonably expect to make a quick recovery from it, but passing it on to my folks who are older and not in such good health would be a nightmare.

I live in the UK, there's currently many more people with corona virus in the UK than in Thailand, so more chance catching it here than there, If you believe the figures.

But yea, I could catch it from wherever, pass it on without even knowing it, as could anyone.

Though for me personally, I live in London, my parents in Northern Ireland, so if I thought in any way at all me, my wife or daughter had it, we obviously wouldn't go to Northern Ireland to see them.

Though it's in Northern Ireland as well, think it'll be pretty much everywhere soon enough.

whats scares me is people goign into shopping malls  and churches and opening fire with auto weapons.  its a comparatively new fad and whilst similar to regular murders, is different.    thats how i see this virus.  its similar to the flu, but not the same.  it started in a small way but looks like it will spread much faster and is more contagious than regular flu.  no one knows if it can go dormant and come back again.  if thats the case then NEXT WINTER could be a calamity, as by then carriers or whatever would be everywhere.    the chinese lie about figures and were slow in releasing info, slower too in sharing data and samples to the world BUT they did the right thing by ring fencing 13 mill chinese in the area affected.  but then again whilst that might work in the army state of china, i cant see it working in, say, the uk or US.

we are on the second, ( maybe 3rd) version of COVID already as it mutates.  no one has a clue as to how many more versions will become evident this year alone.

Young people, healthy people, they will get a cold, be carriers and share it, then move on without much hassle.  for us older folk, and those with weak chests or other complaints, its bloody scary.

but then again we can either rush out and fill our garages with toilet paper "in case"  or simply get on with life, as we have no control over it.  taking extra care and enjoying our time here.

bloody glad I am in the LOS.  onyl cases here are brought in by outsiders,   and numbers still lower in total than the number of new cases in one day in the UK alone.  ( to put it into perspective)

Because you trust numbers given by Thai authorities more than those from China ? You think cases in the countryside are noted and recorded, let alone tested ?

Same here. There are no cases. Easy. Suits me fine as I dont want see the panic taking over.

At the end we'll all die from something.

The world is a dangerous place...till now nobody survived it !

To the best of my knowledge I have only had Flu twice in my life and  never after I was about 25 years of age.

On both occasions I was bed ridden for at least a week and took about 3 weeks to fully recover. We all say "had a touch of the flu" but if my experience is typical you sure know when you get Flu for real.

I felt like shite but Flu was hitting people in London at the time and nobody my age was becoming dead from the Flu.  Most healthy people recovered and that appears to be the same now with coronavirus.

Honestly, the reason the world has gone nuts,is becuase people are fucking nuts.

When I sold my main biz,4 years ago,it was mainly because the customer, had gotten to the point where they were a fucking night are to deal with.

Everyone now, thinks they know more than they do.

The internet ,while great, has allowed retards to have an opinion,on shit they google.

I see a parallel with our biz,and this Corona BS.

The general public think they are better informed, about subjects they have no clue about.
