For those of us who have been absent from LOS - any change in routine for the next trip?

3 years to the day pretty much.

Will I change my routine? - Well I might have to whether I want to or not.

I will certainly utilise my time better. I'm normally an early riser with a jog along the beach, back to the hotel and sit by the pool with a book and a beer until around 3pm, then out for a late lunch / early dinner and then out on the piss. Although that routine really recharges my batteries, maybe I'll hit a few more GC's in the afternoons or enjoy a massage more frequently.

Definitely more massages. I've really missed a good, genuine (non happy ending) massage by a skilled masseuse. So much so that I can feel an old wound and ache creeping back in which was always dealt with by having a once or twice yearly massage by someone who really knew what they were doing. It's very often the best 400 baht of the holiday spent.

My eating habits will also change. No more "grab and go" stuff, it'll be a decent , sit down and enjoyed Thai meal along with a large Leo whether I'm in a hurry or not.

I get a lot of time to myself in LOS, for me it is a medicine because every day someone needs a bit of me and I get no respite from it until I'm on holiday alone. That's why I like hooters in some ways, decent beer and time to myself, or even sitting in Starbucks drinking an earl grey via osmosis while I read the paper or my book.

Either way, I intend to get more sunshine, spend more time enjoying the food and appreciating my time there. Damn I miss those massages.

Well put its the way I have gradually been changing my routine to over last couple of years

its been 3 years 2 months  for me I generally spend 7 -10 days up in the boondocks visiting Mrs rocks family its way too rural to sit back by a pool with a beer

Then a week or so in bkk and Pattaya catching up with mates etc ( nearly all of them have moved on)

Nov 2019 was my last trip and now not planning on going back until Oc/Nov this year ... so will be almost 3 years

no real point planning to much  , but I do want to spend more time in Bangkok and maybe head back to CM for Loy Kratong or maybe somewhere like Ayutthaya

in Patts my normal routine was get up at the crack of midday ish ... say goodbye to my guest , sit by the pool until around 16:00 , shower , shave and off for a massage and Soi six .. back to room to get changed , out for dinner around 20:00/21:00 then hit the bars and GoGos until stupid o'clock and pick up some company along the way ... rinse and repeat

would be great to do that again , but drink a little less ...

I would give my left nut for a good foot massage about now. Not kidding, something I took for granted while there in the past.

Now.... I all am thinking is how good it will be to get back to "home sweet home" in Chiang Mai. It is the only consideration at this point.

Cheers !

I to miss the foot care , just not the same cutting your own toe and finger nails

as I’ve had to put my thoughts of Thailand on hold for so long,

will be interesting to see if my obsessive state of mind for the place returns

I will probably spend more time at the house my wife built in her village outside Udon Thani plus I will also be spending time staying in a bungalow on the Mekong river in Nong Khai. I enjoyed my stay there last time and could see myself spending a week there.

No trips planned at this stage but will definitely need to go back when the driver's licence is due to be renewed as I don't want to have to do all the theory and practicle tests again like last time after not getting a replacement within 12 moths of the licence expiring.

The reverse of this thread is relevant to me, and many others that live here in Thailand.

It's been around 4 years since i last visited the UK, whenever i do go there again i will truly relish the first pint of real ale, and the 2nd, 3rd and however many more before i am full

By Buddha i miss drinking proper hand pulled ale.........

Totally agree, mate.

I do like the choice and prices in the local 'Spoons but there is a pub out on the Kennet and Avon canal called "The Bridge" that has a great beer garden to spend an afternoon in. There are always "interesting" folk mooring their barges there with a bit of Bob Marley playing and odd smells coming from their wood burning stoves..

I walk out along the canal and take a bus back!!

EDIT = Sorry but I was interrupted before I could finish regarding the change in routine....Next time back I shan't be staying in a Travel Lodge but with one of my sons... All I really want, is to sit on his patio and drink Lidls wine !!

Ditto - visiting Mrs Bob's family in Isaan, and then visiting a few friends for a day or two each who live all over Isaan.  Then Bangkok to visit Mrs Sister and do some shopping and whatever comes to mind.  Maybe also get a few games of golf in here and there. I sure miss a few things - especially the cheap Thai food places and the Japanese Sushi restaurants.

Judging by the Junta's decision to keep making money from Covid tests and compulsory quarantine in expensive hotels and Thailand Pass rubbish - it will be several months before we even start planning our next visit.  We left in January 2020 last time - normally we go in Feb/March - got lucky there.  Probably July/August this year?

I've pretty well resigned myself to the fact that there is no point in my returning until November or even December and one would certainly hope that entry requirements will be relaxed by then, which will be almost three years since I left; as for my daily routines, I don't anticipate much change there - I'll probably spend the first couple of weeks in a hotel in central Pattaya and then rent a condo for a longer period, probably in Jomtien where I have stayed the most over my last few trips; I usually waken fairly early but spend my mornings reading and catching up on my internet, leaving the room usually around noon and spending the afternoon walking all over and usually dropping into a couple of GC's along the way. I'll make it home for a break and freshen up and head out later to mostly explore the beer bar areas and look around for a suitable companion to take home, or just be lazy and head out for a few drinks in the Jomtien bars. I think the only change I would make during my next trip is to visit the go-go bars a little more - it had gotten to the point where I never went to them at all unless I was on an organized bar crawl and I'd like to begin exploring these venues a little more again on my own. I think during the last five month trip I had started getting a little blasé about the whole Pattaya experience but if I had known that it would be suddenly taken away from me for three years, I would have made far better use of my time during that last trip! As the old song goes, "you don't know what you've got until it's gone".

In all seriousness, the one thing i'm really looking forward to is seeing my lovely little wife run up and give her mum and Dad a big giant hug, and then getting our daughter to do the same.

I hope this comes true for you soon mate.

EDIT = And of course yesterday was the anniversary of a special day. We have an obligation in life to give our children love, affection and a peaceful future no matter what colour your kerb stones are painted!

The biggest change will be having to find new regulars , I usually have two / three girls that I have seen on previous trips and know they provide a good service .. I like to change girls most days , but don't always want some strange , nice to have someone familiar for an overnight stay ..

I don't see that we will change our routine except for what is changed by the facilities, transport, infrastructure etc that exists in Thailand during our stay.

Even if there is no Test and Go (July) we will stay in a hotel in Bangkok for the night, we will then possibly head to Khon Kaen so Porn and Kataleya can see their relatives. We are booked in the M Hotel in Chiang Mai for 4 days in late July and hopefully the restaurants, street market, Doi Suthep etc will be open to visit. I will head off to the Philippines to enjoy Angeles, Barrio Barretto and Puerta Galera for about 10 days and then head back to Thailand to meet with Porn and Kataleya and head to Hua Hin for 10 days.

Again as long as Hua Hin is open, the Food Court on soi 88 is open, pick ups are available to rent, restaurants are open, beaches are open, swimming pools are open then all will be good.

We may go to some bars but hopefully the bars will be open without issue, the only bars I care to be open for my visit will be Le Pub and the Rockhouse if I visit Pattaya for a few days. Other than that I don't see the routine changing from any other holiday I have with family.

I think we won't be sidetracked, disappointed or inconvenienced from what we would normally be doing.

I keep reading that there are very few girls around at the moment, not that it effects me, but I would have thought that many of them would be returning by now.

The bars look busy on the Youtube vlogs, both with girls and customers.

I meant to add earlier, my evening routine might change somewhat as well. Looking at how Treetown etc has expanded, my visits to Walking Street will probably be reduced considerably, especially now that a swathe of GoGo's have gone out of business.

Soi 8 and 7, plus that beach Rd area of Beer bars will still continue to be a destination for me during the afternoons (great for peoplewatching or a few games of pool).

I also can't imagine ever visiting 808 / Lucifers or Red Car anymore, they felt a bit jaded on my last trip and I think that the only reason to actually visit Walking Street would be for live music or to see Phil.

With the exception of a quick stopover on the way to other Asian destinations, I've no interest in visiting TH until Covid is long in the rearview mirror. By that time 'my Thailand' (& routine) will likely be much different than the past with the exception of a few regular stops (in Bangkok). At some point though, I'll make a long trip around TH with my daughter and specifically to visit friends in the south: Trang & Krabi.

Haven't been to Pattaya since '17 and have no interest in going back there as I think it's the armpit of TH (with all due respect to forum members who call it home). Good place to retire...I know.

Down the road a ways my future plans do include living out my sunset years on the farm I've already bought - aka Rancho Isaan🤠

Last night I pulled up Thai Friendly (first time in a year and a half) to do some prelim. browsing. But honestly I doubt I will be using TF much in the future. As I tend to prefer just seeing what's there when I am "on the ground". I like the thrill of running into a gem every now and then and seeing if I can work any magic. I will also have unlimited time when I get there. I don't plan on returning here anytime soon, if ever.

I'm the same I have looked at TF and Tinder when in LOS , but have never used it to contact anyone .. I prefer the bar scene and meeting in person, I'm usually happy with my decisions, although alcohol has clouded my judgment on a few occasions... 🙃 555
