  1. Concerns me when I see the word lifeless used as per Painter's view above. Is this part of the problem as well as it takes two to tango. Painter did his bit by patronising a bar and probably expected a better reception. The low season doesn't seem to have brought a desire of those girls touting for business to be overly pro active. I am sure there are some go go bars where money is flowing and girls are unlikely to be called 'lifeless but in the beer bars the lack of positive attitude from the bar staff seems to be the norm. Has it become that boring in the bars?. I remember a bar owner mentioning that you can make your own entertainment by buying drinks all around and acting up, the thing for me is that it should be the girls offering good customer service such that makes you wish to part with your money. How many times have I walked in to a bar with barely a nod of appreciation for my patronage and a lack of attention usually seeing staff engaged in everything but servicing the customers. Low season times should see a more positive attitude from staff not a lack of it so what is going on. Back in the day pre phones and when girls were hungry you could hear the screams of girls trying to entice guys in to their bars and offering immediate attention that made you feel like a million dollars and that was all year round, where did that customer service go. Oh for the days of Subic in the Philippines when the base at Olongapo was still full to the brim with servicemen. Arriving on a jeepney into Subic and listening to the cacophony of the girls eager for your time and money. You were made to feel king and parting with your money was exciting and rewarding. I apologise for reminiscing about something that many have never experienced. Those days seem to have gone by all accounts from reading these threads, very sad.

  2. I was in there tonight, between 7.45 and 8.45, so yes, early. Rough headcount... 2 ladies in black tops behind the bar. Both fairly lifeless. 2 ladies in blue tops, serving. 2 ladies in white tops. Not sure what they were doing 1 cleaner, 1 older lady (manager? but I've not seen her in there before) Thai manager, and presumably chef 2 ladies in union flag dresses. However, one got changed and left, but as we were leaving there were two more sat outside. Unfortunately little atmosphere, and the gf and I were the only two customers, and the gf wasnt spending anything!! The silence between tracks on the sound system was deafening Food was, as always, good, drinks were as we asked for.

  11. Yesterday the missus said to me "You have to go to Sainsbury's to buy wine"....she had a £6 off voucher if you spent £40+. I love buying wine, almost as much as I love drinking it.🍷 It's no wonder that we've been married for so long!

  18. Just getting caught up with this thread. My dad was a Highway Patrolman in Northern California for nearly 30 years. In the 70's while working out of the Solano County office in Vallejo, then later, Fairfield, the secretary who worked there was Bill Buckner's mom. He was a great player, fantastic hitter, and unfortunately, for all of his career highlights and stats, that one error in the '86 World Series, was the lasting impression that he was most remembered by. However, I would choose to remember him in this video from Opening Day at Fenway Park in 2008. By then, all was forgiven and even though past sports champions from Boston's sports teams had already been introduced, the last and longest ovation was saved for Bill Buckner. The power and love from sports fans for one of their own. A fitting remembrance

  19. My misses told me on Sunday that she had filled both cars up with fuel! and little son handed me a box wrapped in shiny paper, containing a “Worlds Best Dad” coffee mug, with the price tag still attached🤣 Took a while to figure out it was Father’s Day. 19 years and counting. 👍🤗

  28. When I see this video, it always makes me chuckle, it also makes me miss the Philippines and my usual hotel of choice, the Pacific Breeze. A great hotel with prices starting at around 2100 pesos (THB 1260). My normal room is the Executive at 2500 pesos (1500 baht), it is also in the main building (as seen in video), the cheaper rooms are in an annex across from the main entrance. I just like the video, all the particpanst are staff and there are some nice looking staff.

  29. I took the following pics on and around Soi Buakhao Wednesday last week between 4.00 and 6.00 p.m., so some could be out of date by now. Seems like a lot of work is yet to be done before the Hungry Hippo begins operation. Rich Bar has been closed for about six weeks, but there was renovation activity going on inside. Nothing much seemed to be happening at the former Butchers Arms. The premises of the former Lone StarTexas Grill on Soi Lengkee were looking very abandoned. I wonder what became of the cigar store Indians that stood outside? There was one person working inside the former Blue Heeler Bar, also on Lengkee. If I remember right, these used to be fruit and juice stands across the street from what's now Cheap Charlie's on Soi Buakhao. The never-ending water drainage project at the R-Con curve on Buakhao. Installation of pipes to bury cables on Pattaya Klang between 2nd and 3rd Roads was winding down. A few days ago, traffic on Klang had been reduced to one lane in each direction, with traffic at a standstill in the late afternoon. In the past week or so, I saw similar pipe replacement projects on 2nd Road south of Klang and on sections of Soi Buakhao. Evil
