This month's update on the Mabprachan Reservoir. Weeds are higher Water level unchanged Weeds now poking up in the shallow areas Pumps are gone A few dead tree pics The spring fed stream is still flowing Used to be able to ride the bike across the lake bed at this point. Need a machete now to get through. There are some nice, quiet, scenic shady spots on the trails around the reservoir. A sea of green6 points

Then again, bikers with mad skills can still have fun here in the States. They know the parameters. Check out the chick doing the wheelie in the beginning of the vid. Brilliant. Ok sorry, back to age.6 points

Anyone that thinks Corbyn, Abbott and McDonnell would have handled this better needs their heads looked at.5 points

The wife and MIL are already planning our next visit to them, if and when all this Covid travel ban is lifted. First is a month or so in Italy at our place in the hills near Florence. Far enough from the madding crowd, with a cellar full of wines and local food readily available in mom & pop restaurants and no trips to the city. That’ll do nicely. 🙂 Then onto a month or so in Thailand and straight to the farm in Nakhon Sawon, again, way out in the sticks. Rolling hills, cool breezes, a river that runs through the farm to bathe in, fruit, vegetables and livestock growing all around us on the farm and local shops around 2 miles away and no bars. Heaven. 🤗 l can understand your frustration @Jambo, but for us, piece and quite is what we love best and luckily, unlike yourself, her family are fantastic people to be with. Can’t wait. 👍5 points

I hold no love for the arrogant asshole and think he should go, but these “journalists” and “photographers” are an ugly group. Iv’e seen packs of feral dogs in Thailand better behaved than that lot. 🤔4 points

It seems to me that Governments the world over are generally trying their best to combat the effects of Covid19. They find themselves in an unprecidented situation and are making the rules up as they go along and not helped by so called "experts" who unfortunately all too often seem to take the same approach making up the "science" as they go along. Sometimes they get it right and sometimes they do not but they are (mostly) all trying to get it right. The UK Government is no different and is trying to do what they believe is best for the nation. They quite plainly do not always succeed but they are getting a lot more right than they get wrong. Would Labour had done any better? How can we ever know because they rarely if ever offer any real alternatives or praise even when it is due. They just look for any reason to criticise and pick holes and The Guardian Newspaper is carrying out a non-stop campaign of criticising everything and anything the Government does. Is Cummings a plonker? Probably, but Johnson obviously considers him an important advisor to the Government otherwise he would and probably should have sacked him. If I was Johnson I would, to use a fine Scottish expression, tell'm all to "get-ta-f**k". 😀4 points

I don't normally drink midweek, but it is the first anniversary of my mum passing. So I have opened one of my finest bottles of red wine to toast her life. Bless her. 🍾3 points

Absolutely 😁 But they're not in power so it's pointless. As is going down the "what aboutary" or leavers v remoaners, right v looney left roads. We have the governments who we voted for and IMHO we should hold them to account when they f**k up. It's a fundamental right in a free society.3 points

Abbott probably would have said it was created by the white man to control the black population.3 points

You have to remember that for Labour to have done any better it would mean that they won the last election and Corbyn & Abbott would've been in charge....3 points

For those interested in a bit of off road riding, there are some nice paths around Mabprachan Reservoir on the west and north sides. The screenshot below are tracks from various rides I've made over the years around the reservoir. The area parallel to the dam is primarily eucalyptus trees with trails that are hard packed and easy to negotiate. While the area on the north side of the reservoir is a good mix of service roads, hard packed trail, and narrow single track.3 points

It was another recipe from the dreaded YouTube. Included stock, tomato puree, garlic, various herbs.... It was supposed to be cooked on low for 8 hours. However after 2 hours I wasn't smelling anything and found a slight user error..... I hadn't plugged it in! Cooked it for 3 hours on high and 3 on low instead...2 points

Apparently it is so called because the majority of ice cream merchants in the fifties were Italian. The King of Italy had an elite bodyguard consisting of 99 men. So anything elite was called 99s by Italians. So they called the elite ice cream a 99.2 points

They surrendered at the first sound of gunfire from the British navy and reached an understanding. Not colonised. Ahem They surrendered to the Japanese and reached an understanding to let them march wherever they wanted. Not colonised of course. Ahem. My favourite Thai story was after Pearl Harbour 1941. Thai ambassador went to the White House with a declaration of hostilities siding with the Japanese as allies. After the war they said it had not been signed properly so no war existed no problems no reparations and bad Communists to fight now....... Next China as they say in Afghanistan ......2 points

It just shows the arrogance of the Thai government. They think that just because they're demanding silly certificates and impossible holiday cover, other countries will jump and change their medical and insurance systems. They can't understand that they're just not that important in the grand scheme of things (even if they are the only country in SE Asia that was never colonised by the evil British and perfidious French, blah, blah, blah, you've heard it all before a million times).2 points

Dominic Cummings is not an elected politician He is a very well paid advisor to Boris Johnson and his Cabinet It is not just as if the opposition are calling for his resignation but 35 Tory MPs who are not happy that he broke the rules that the general public were told to follow. I am not surprised that many people are angry about this especially as Cummings played an architectural role in setting out the rules of Lockdown during the Covid Pandemic. Another question is how did he get it? He carried on working when many others are unable to when he still work remotely from his home and remote meetings can also take place with the technology available. There have been a few high profile advisors who have broken the rules with the "do as I say, not do as I do"see attitude and behaviour If he had even apologised it would have been start. But that in itself would have been an admission of guilt Had he resigned, I doubt whether he would have been hounded by reporters. My opinion is that Boris Johnson was weak and found it difficult to defend him, so therefore a long winded press conference was awarded to Cummings which was totally unnecessary. In other words Johnson passed the buck and as his employer he should have sacked him The real reason that he did not is because he needs Cummings around for the Brexit negotiations. Whether Conservative, Labour or Lib Dem, it makes no difference.Prime ministers are accountable both to the public and to Parliament Meanwhile, members of the public who act in the same way as Cummings could be fined and even turned back from their journey. Is Matt Hancock going to relax the rules for the sake of Cummings of for the safety of the people. I can1 point
