Good to see a strong response from the EU over Belarus' hijacking of the Ryanair flight. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday said the bloc is "closing our airspace to planes from Belarus" and calling on EU airlines not to fly over the country. She added that "further economic sanctions will be presented soon." https://edition.cnn.com/2021/05/24/business/airlines-belarus-air-space/index.html3 points

Congratulations Phil. Tied with Faldo and Trevino on all time list, never a bad thing. I AM against guys like Vijay and Love at 55+ taking away spots from younger golfers in PGA tournaments, but Phil just showed why he’s barely teed it up on the Champions Tour, where he won in his first 2 chances. As good as they are, this week shows that Phil would simply destroy the competition there. The way he’s playing he’d easily win 7 or 8 of every 10 events. Definitely deserves to play with the youngsters as long as he pleases3 points

Sorry for the double reply but this video really hits the spot about who he was. The gambler was only a small part of it, albeit a very successful one2 points

I might have set it up Ian but you have done a great job updating us every week. I took my eye off the ball in the last month, I kept forgetting about the Friday night matches. It has been a good craic and I am already looking forward to next season. just wondering if there would be any interest in joining a Euro fantasy league, details here.2 points

It's a brilliant story the Yellow Sam gamble. The phone box in the picture, is at Bellewstown still there, as monument😎 Without our modern technology blocking the only phone line on the course stopped the bookies from hedging. Got to love this ""You always like to do things that nobody else can do. It was a massive touch at the time. I went on to buy Middleton House [a stately home] in Mullingar. Very few people would have had more than a quarter of a million in cash in 1975."2 points

I skied almost everyday in the winter for 20 years (1/3 of them employed full-time as an instructor & race coach). Cable cars & gondolas were a luxury compared to old style, slow, 2-person chairlifts. Often, the ride was high above cliffs in the middle of blizzards - high winds & driving snow. Some of the best years of my life.2 points

Lol, Yep Roger Osborne, I was mixing him up with Russell Osman! - what a plank I am! I knew a few of the lads who played for the Belstead Arms team back in the day, Sunday football often down at the Recreation ground as you follow Ellenbrook Road out of the housing estate, with the old changing room hut at the top (now houses, unsurprisingly). I played many a game there for my Cub Scout group in the 80's. I was also friends with the Landlords son at the time (Molloy) so we would be allowed into the bar / lounge area (until we got turfed out) - who knows, I might have been stood next to you at one time back in the late 70's and never knew it!. My Mum also took me into Town when the open top bus did a circuit along St Matthews St and then we all legged it as fast as we could to the Cornhill where Mick Mills lifted the Cup to massive applause. It was epic, as we were all kids of 7 / 8 / 9 years old, a few bigger lads lifted us up onto their shoulders. It was great to be a part of it back then. I also remember Milwall coming to play ITFC and managing to smash some windows (previously claimed to be unbreakable) in the then (new) Willis Faber building.1 point

What a great moment in sports history, Phil achieving something that had never happened before in the sport of golf. I was rooting for him. Though he will never match the level of Tiger Woods when it comes to majors, can anyone deny the love he has from the fans, the connection he's built up and maintained for three decades, through his victories and defeats? Bravo Phil!! As with the young guns, since the rivalry of Tiger and Phil has pretty much graduated to one of mutual respect and admiration for one another, what golf needs is another rivalry with the younger generation, and these two lads seem to fit the bill beautifully. Lets hope that in future matches, these guys can be paired up and with any luck, each are in position to win on Sunday. Nothing stokes the passions of a sports fan, and that sports participants, like a good old fashioned rivalry. These two guys appear to be like a couple of lions each trying to establish their territory among the pride. Has the makings of great golf, and back stories, for years to come.1 point

As a kid I used to watch Hounslow in the 70s,was not far from my home. And my old man would take me to Brentford in the early to mid 70s as it was his team. Late 70s I started going to Rangers with my mate who was a fan and been a fan myself ever since. Always had a eye on Brentford ever since and always wish them well except when they play us.1 point

Looking forward to the Championship Final. I lived in Hounslow and played football originally for Heston and Isleworth before playing for Hounslow which included Brentford and Chiswick. Brentford have been in the playoffs quite a few times over the last 5 years but always fallen at the last hurdle. I suppose my heart is with them to win but I now live in Neath which has a Swansea postal code and being half Welsh I would also like to see Swansea do well. Swansea's ground is only 15 minutes away and I often hit Morfa Park shopping centre next door to the ground. It's a kind of win win situation for me and I am really looking forward to the final.1 point

They are trying to say they landed because of a bomb scare. What they dont say, and it is quite obvious from the above map, the diversion to Minsk was longer than going to the nearest airport which was their destination anyway. So the risk to passengers was increased.1 point

My mate in Udon has registered and is scheduled to get the JAB on 13 June. He has a yellow book and the pink Thai ID card and registered on line with no problems. They phoned him and verified the data on the phone. At no time was "Thai First" mentioned.1 point

As @nampla69 mentioned, I'm Suffolk born and bred and have supported Ipswich since 1960. I was 6 when we won the old 2nd division and then won the first division the following year. Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips, fantastic twin strikers. I've attended many ex-players dinners, got a pic of me with those two (below), taken about 5 years ago. Ted sadly died relatively recently. Belstead Arms - know it well and had many booze-ups there. I was lucky enough to be at Wembley for that final in 78. Fantastic day and love your memories of it. Can just imagine what it was like in Ipswich that day. Watching the replays subsequently, David Coleman's "Osborne, one nil" is one of the one liners I always remember. Quite just too as Warky hit the post twice and Mariner hit the bar. Completely outplayed Arsenal that day (by the way, it's Roger Osborne), a real unsung hero. He's still around the town, along with his huge family.1 point

I get back from the Dominican Republic on June 10th. Since you guys will be up at Tahoe all week, maybe I could make a drive up midweek, grab a room at a motel near Stateline, and meet you for a few beers. Shouldn't be a problem finding a place to stay on a Tuesday or Wednesday night and traffic up and back Highway 50 won't be a problem. I haven't been up in Lake Tahoe for at least 5-6 years, but having a chance at meeting a true legend of the board would be a perfect excuse to drive up! 😄1 point

I have really missed the live gigs also. Had a few rescheduled or cancelled altogether. Geoff Tate is hopefully in August after 2 previous postponements, Saxons 40th anniversary tour is now January so is about 18 months late with 2 previous cancellations and so on. Bands must have lost a fortune as their main income these days is from touring and merchandise sales, people don't buy music the way they used to, young people think it should be free.1 point

Was very sad to Barney Curley had passed away aged 81. Doubt anyone on here would have heard or him, but having met him years a truly fascinating, if a touch scary man! One time trainee Jesuit priest, turned professional gambler with several scores over the million sterling in today's terms over the years. R.I.P Barney "Barney Curley, the mastermind behind arguably the greatest betting coup of all time, has died at the age of 81. Few men who have crossed the racing landscape can have divided opinion quite as successfully as the Northern Irishman, whose unlikely recovery from a bout of ravaging tuberculosis as a young man, then his decision to abandon plans for a career as a Jesuit priest and missionary, preserved him for a turbulent life in racing" https://www.racingpost.com/news/barney-curley/barney-curley-legendary-punter-and-former-trainer-dies-at-the-age-of-81/4875011 point

I feel for ya Jambo, when you go up against your other half and her country (even though it's just a suggestion) you face a losing the argument no matter how much logic you throw that way. I've seen it with friends and their partners- not worth the headache mostly. But did you know that in the UK, they offered the vaccine to everyone in the order they released in terms of high risk categories and order of occupation. Even undocumented people are asked to come forward with no risk of further action taken against them. This is for the sake of keeping everyone safe. That policy should be everywhere- not sure what the plan is exactly over here. I must admit- the way they (Thai Gov) have got people in quarantine and how they have dealt with it, is pretty good. Quite pricey though! But on the other side, it would be nice if our governments recognise that we expats are not going to fly back to our home countries just to get the vaccine and deal with heavy costs due to quarantine and risk not being able to come back. Whether it's the UK (my home), USA, Canada, Australia or wherever you are from- I think the Embassy's or whoever need to help us with getting shots into our arms. Hope someone can keep us updated when we can do that here. Good luck all!1 point

I love to sit there but one row back, never liked getting bothered by the vendors. Try to keep out of earshot of the music blasting from Voodoo but difficult unless you eat inside. Could do with my favourite 'Tequila Lime Chicken' but that will have to wait a while.1 point

I have no problem with the Thai govt wanting to vaccinate their citizens first. Where I do have an issue is when the same govt won't allow our embassies to provide vaccinations to their respective citizens, nor allow private hospitals to acquire the vaccine through other channels.1 point

@Evil Penevil... do not listen mate to the bloke...he is worse than a troll..... calling him a sad sack is probably a shot at sad sacks. Many BMs over the forums know you...many have met you. Not all will agree with you but at all times you have been civil and will also look at the other perspective.... have a laugh ...agree to disagree and move on. The big thing here is that over all the forums you have one identity... go by the name of Evil.... I wonder what the number of forum names old mate Kathmandu has...555. Hang on that could be a poll topic...lol cheers1 point
