COVID 19 GLOBAL

Just wondering about UK & European BM's reaction to this report -

Here in Europe, restaurants are full, shops are packed, markets are thriving and traffic is back. Oh, how the traffic is back. The continent’s great cities have roared to life so rapidly that you could spend all day wandering around not really knowing a pandemic exists.

It does, though. There were 790 deaths caused by COVID-19 in the UK over the past week, and 256,000 new cases. Most people no longer fret about these numbers – they rarely make the papers or television news bulletins.

PS - wonder how that will look in a years time....Just saying...

Take a look at the Thailand off the UK Red list thread, discussion on it there.

Numbers have been steady for ages in the UK, go up slightly as things open up, then hit the wall of immunity from vaccines and people who have had covid having natural immunity, stable off, go down. Latest being the schools all going back.

In a year's time it will be fine, once we get through this winter it will be fine, we have to live with Covid going forward, and that's what we're doing.

I would like to see a breakdown of daily or weekly Positive Covid tests by Age.

I have read a lot of reports that Covid is now spreading more rapidly in younger age groups. Many of whom have not been partially or fully vaccinated.

Whilst hospital admissions and deaths have comedown greatly, the numbers of cases reported always look worrying to me.  It would e more helpful if these figures were put into context, ie by age group, vaccinated/non vaccinated, an idea of where and how it is being spread. The latter, might be a more difficult ask.

Perhaps this info is available, but I have not seen it in any great detail.

I grow tired of just seeing the numbers being read out on the daily news channels with little detail to accompany it.

https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-astrazeneca-requests-emergency-authoritisation-in-us-or-drug-that-reduces-risk-of-developing-coronavirus-symptoms-by-77-12426338

COVID-19: AstraZeneca requests emergency authoritisation in US for drug that reduces risk of developing coronavirus symptoms by 77%

The drugmaker included data in its filing with the Food and Drug Administration from a late-stage trial showing the jab reduced the risk of people developing any coronavirus symptoms by 77%.

The antibody therapy, called AZD7442, could be used to protect people who do not have a strong enough immune response to COVID vaccines, or as a booster for those such as military personnel, AstraZeneca said.

AZD7442 differs from vaccines, which rely on the immune system to develop targeted antibodies and infection-fighting cells, by containing lab-made antibodies which are designed to stay in the body for months to contain the virus if a person becomes infected.

According to the ZOE COVID Symptom Study, which is funded by the UK government, the top five symptoms of coronavirus in those who are fully vaccinated are: headache, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and loss of smell.

The company hopes it can promote the jab as providing year-long protection, as trial investigators will follow up with participants as far out as 15 months.

Mene Pangalos, executive vice president at AstraZeneca's BioPharmaceuticals R&D, said: "Vulnerable populations such as the immunocompromised often aren't able to mount a protective response following vaccination and continue to be at risk of developing COVID-19.

"With this first global regulatory filing, we are one step closer to providing an additional option to help protect against COVID-19 alongside vaccines.

"We look forward to sharing AZD7442 data for the treatment of COVID-19 later this year."

AZD7442 is based on two antibodies discovered by the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the US.

AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine - which is used in the UK - is yet to be approved by US authorities. In July, the company said it expected to seek US approval for the vaccine in the second half of this year.

The county I live in has a small population with Durango being the largest city. Total population is around 36,000. We are a major tourist destination and millions pass through every year. But this month we have had an daily average  of 22 new cases reported every day. Last September we averaged 19 people testing positive every day for covid19.

The GF and I have both had our 3rd vaccine shots and were glade to get them. We are both in our 70s and willingly wear our masks when out an about. But we are the exception. The vest majority that we see are going bareback. ALL our grocery stores and most restaurants require masks at all times but that's about it.

Because of the shut downs in the beginning we didn't have many cases at all. For the longest time we were well under 50 cases total. But after everything opening back up and the tourists started their mass exodus of the big city's we are now over 6000 positive cases reported. And it's growing daily. All we can do is try to be smart in keeping our little bubble safe.

Im feeling is that this thing is never going away and will most probably keep reinventing its self into something newer and nastier

My Stepfather used to say that the world needs a good plague, a good famine and a few World Wars as a way of thinning down on the population.

Me.... I just want a few more Great trips to Pattaya and meet up with all the friends that I've made there over the years.

Blow for anti-vaxxers as NSW challenge to vaccine mandates thrown out

The NSW Supreme Court has thrown out two cases challenging mandatory
vaccinations for essential workers.

A group of essential workers had been arguing in court that Health Minister Brad
Hazzard’s orders were an attempt to remove personal choice from the vaccination
debate.

Lawyers for Mr Hazzard earlier told the court the requirements for essential workers to
get the Covid vaccine in order to continue working were not a “mandate” at all.

Two challenges were dismissed shortly after 4pm local time on Friday.

In the court’s judgment, the judge directly addressed the argument that NSW’s vaccine
orders were a breach of bodily integrity. He dismissed the notion.

“So far as the right to bodily integrity is concerned, it is not violated as the impugned
orders do not authorise the involuntary vaccination of anyone.”

The hearing made headlines earlier in the week after anti-vaxxers circulated fraudulent
court transcripts
purporting to show one of the state’s leading infectious diseases
experts admitting the vaccines had not been adequetly tested and were unsafe.

The fake court transcript was outed on NSW Police’s Facebook page on Wednesday as
it began circulating among anti-vaccination groups.

Police shared the transcript with bold red letters declaring it “DEBUNKED” by fact
checkers from Melbourne’s RMIT University. The fact checkers labelled it “wholly
inaccurate”.

The fake document contained fabricated statements from Professor Kristine Macartney,
the Director of the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance
(NCIRS), about what she said in the NSW Supreme Court.

Prof Macartney had given evidence in a case brought against NSW Health Minister
Brad Hazzard, which seeks to overturn mandatory Covid-19 vaccine requirements for
public sector workers.

The document claimed Prof Macartney told the court “yes” when asked whether “double
vaxxed people are 13 times more likely to catch the virus”.

In a statement on Wednesday, Prof Macartney and the NCIRS corrected the record.

“We are aware of misinformation being shared online and on social media platforms
regarding NCIRS Director Professor Kristine Macartney’s recent appearance as an
expert witness in a case before the Supreme Court of New South Wales,” the statement
read.

Anti-vaxxers circulating fraudulent court transcripts, whatever next. Claiming that vaccines magnetise you, or beam 5G signals right into your brain?

That's good news, I have had 2 fishing trips cancelled so far and this will hopefully mean I will finally get to terrorize the German carp.

Once we get through this winter there will be a far greater sense of normality in Europe and everywhere there has been a good vaccine roll out.
