Pumpuynarak
Like me you probaly use Google if you want info on any subject. Now just how accurate is this info, i'm particularly interested in Health info. Any thoughts/comments ?
Lemondropkid
COVID has proven that Google can come up with health info to suggest what every you want to believe is true ,is true🙂 If you are worried about health best go straight to a medical pro. The UK NHS site is helpful for advice, if you know what exactly you are suffering from, but self- diagnosis is dangerous and bad for your state of mind to be constantly looking up symptoms . It might help you find out how to deal with an already identified malady, but for researching health I'd go to a professional. There are so many variables and frequently even Doctors get it wrong and need more evidence to prove their diagnosis. One classic example are the red spots on my face which I mentioned about, initially it was either keratosis or basal cell carcinoma, she couldn't tell by an initial visual inspection. I did consult google and got lost in all the info. Â Edited July 11, 2022 by Butch

Pumpuynarak
Thanks for your replies guys. I particularly use Google when advised by my/a doc of a solution to a complaint i'm suffering from and the medication/treatment he reccos. Some of the info available across a variety of sources is quite contradictory but in the main you'll get a consensus view. TIT and i don't trust them when dealing with their own people let alone us farangs, i'm looking for Google to be a potential second opinion on any diagnosis i receive and particularly surrounding any meds they prescribe. We all know their propensity to prescribe all sorts of meds and i seriously question the need for some of them and of course you are never advised of any possible side effects which can be quite frightening. I wonder if there's an incentive for them to over prescribe lol

If it's a private hospital there's a BIG mark-up. I always asked for a med list and then went to the cheapest pharmacy...in Bangkok it was across the street from the hospital.

coxyhog
There is some very useful shit out there on Google you just have to be a bit selective in what websites you click on. I had very bad knees during lockdown and I found a website with some good exercises to build up my leg muscles, but I was advised by my GP beforehand to do just that.(Exercise not Google)My knees are fine now. Also there's some good pics of sun-induced skin growths/cancers which can be used as a comparison.
Lirchenfeld
Sometimes I think it is a miracle I am even alive today. I once read a medical book to see what my symptoms was. According to the book I had meningitis, bubonic plague, dick cancer, and explosive Rwandanese rhinocereos mouth and arse diarrhoea - all at once. After 3 days of agonising pain I crawled to the doctor. He examined me for 2 seconds and then said, "a tiny paper cut in the finger, no need for treatment."

I had a good chat with him, he's American so language is no probs and he operates just as our GP's do in the West offering advice/solutions/specialist appointments to medical problems. I should say i don't use Google for diagnostics but to check out what i'm being told by docs and the possible side effects of medications prescribed. What a result i had, 585bht for the diabetes HA1C/FBS blood test, doctors fee, 2 meds prescribed for other complaints, how can they only charge a farang that amount of Baht ?

How right you are and it is even worse on YouTube where you invite videos from "Experts" often containing contradictory advice. I fell for a video that proclaimed that squats was the very best exercise one can do at any age. So for the first time in about 30 years I started doing daily sets of squats. The morning of day four I woke up with extreme pain in my left knee and mild pain in the same hip. Two months later and following consultations and xrays I find myself in the queue for a hip replacement and at least remedial surgery on the knee. I now know both knee and hip were already f***d when I started the squats but that video was the worst possible advice for me by making a bad situation even worse. Of course now I have been watching videos on knee and hip replacements. They all seem matter of fact about hip replacement showing patients walking the next morning. A knee replacement is a very different kettle of fish often with recipients still in pain a year after surgery. That prospect seems very depressing. Seeing my GP next week assuming he has recovered from covid. I am practising my severe limp and grimaces of severe pain. That will not be difficult as I have both every day. I am after a cortisone injection for the knee. The Practice has been closed for eight days due to several of the doctors having covid. Normally in the UK there's a degree of professional courtesy between Doctors and Consultants, but very little between Consultants themselves. They're egotistical wankers at the best of times, with very few exceptions. My Mrs is a Consultant and tires of it, it's sometimes quite a volatile environment. 1
