  7. You hit the nail on the head it has to do with the Forum without it Secrets wouldn't have been there as long as it was absolutely no question about it. That's a destination location by that I mean you've got to go out for the evening and say hey let's go to scooters chances are if you're down on walking Street you're not going to go by it on your bar hop and say oh look at this place let's go in. In my opinion the location is terrible without the Forum and even with the Forum it's not great but we made it work. But without the Forum I don't think it stands a chance and that said I would be more than happy to be wrong.

  8. It's simple... The secrets forum supported the bar and guest house and now that the forum is no longer what it was a few years ago now its time to re locate the bar and guest house. Location, get out of that dead end soi as its a battle to get people thru the door... New location and a new start or just wrap it up...

  10. If that happened in Ireland or uk ( don’t know about other countries) you would have every solicitor within a 20 mile radius looking for your business. It would take years to come to come to a payout and solicitor and doctors would get more out of it . in Thailand from accident to payout took less then a week and all sides happy . I think I perfer Thailand’s way of doing things , Glad to hear she is ok .

  13. In just a few minutes, the forum will have been in existence for exactly one year. Firstly my thanks to Phil and Tommy ( @Lanzalad @tommy dee) for setting up the forum. This involved a great deal of hard and concentrated work. Secondly and most importantly, thanks to all the members who post and without doubt you are the main reason for the success of the forum. Too many to reference individually however, I will try a few, @Painter for his informative contributions particularly during his five month stays in Pattaya, similarly @Bazle who manages around 50% of his time in Pattaya, @forcebwithu for his photographs of daily life in Pattaya, @galenkia has had a difficult year and has posted what must have been a difficult topic concerning his alcohol addiction problem; this can not have been easy, @Krapow who has created many interesting, stimulating and contentious topics, @Ivan the terrible who contributes to the political threads in his own unique way, @Thai Spice who has created an interesting thread about life in Asia and also provided a view of Brexit from the other side of the channel, @Yesitisdakid whose knowledge and humour is second to none, @Yessongs for his photographic content, @nampla69 whose posts are unique. The list is endless however I must post this as I have less than six minutes to the 1000 am deadline. Thirdly, thanks to Phil ( @misteregg) , at Le Pub, for hosting a number of 247 meetings as well as his continued support for the forum. Our membership has continued to grow; around 50 members would log on in a 24 hour period in the early months of the forum, now the corresponding figure is between 130 and 150. Finally health has been an issue with a number of members; hospital treatment is never pleasant and I am sure everyone would wish all the best in this regard. Once again on behalf of the moderation and admin team may I thank all members for their support. Lastly an apology to members I have not included, I emphasise my thanks to all that have contributed over the last year. Regards John

  22. I get what you're saying TS, but I enjoy the walk and nice to be waited on, providing the breakfast I get is what I enjoy. Frankly I can't be arsed to keep the stock in the condo - it's a fag to get the shopping in. I don't like the condo stinking of fried bacon either. I get a table to myself, have as many coffees as I feel like, sit quietly and read the Bangkok Post, do the sudoku and crossword, then meander back to start work. If I had someone to cook it for me, fine, I'd enjoy looking out over the bay while I do all of the above. One thing against it is the strong wind that tends to blow straight into my balcony. That's really nice as a cooling factor, but the Bangkok Post has been known to go flying over onto next doors balcony, the condo of which is unoccupied . . .

  30. To be fair, the cops at the police station were top drawer and handled things properly and professionally. It was they "cop" and the cop that showed up at the scene that had me concerned, cos they didn't even talk to me. Plus the ambulance took an age to arrive, and my girl told me that they actually took a slight diversion on the way to the hospital to pick up another accident victim. WTF?

San Francisco council calls NRA 'domestic terrorist organisation' https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-49574445 The US is very fast to label countries and organizations worldwide at terrorist organisations, so why not have a look at their own doorstep first !

  38. Have just poked my head around the door of Serenity, what was previously Oasis, on Soi Buakhao, Pattaya. The smell of stale smoke overwhelmed me. That, plus that the layout and the girls looked just as Oasis did, made me do a very quick U-turn. In the space of 3 days, I've seen Scootrets and now this place make fresh starts with almost the exact formulae they were using previously. If at first you don't succeed, try, try, and try again - but don't do it like you did it last time!

  39. This is just a walking street observation.....There use to be just a few Indian clubs on the far end of walking street....But over the last year or 2 the Indian clubs seem to be multiplying and they are slowly moving up walking street....And it looks like even more will open soon.. If new Indian clubs keep on opening we might be looking at a nice chunk of walking street being wall to wall Indian clubs in a few years.....

  40. Well, I'm getting to experience all Thailand has to offer - good and bad. The good is bank girl, who just spent 4 days and nights with me. She left yesterday afternoon to go back to Rangsit, where she lives. She's such a nice lady (she's 37 though looks late 20's). Really does "take care" in the lovely Thai traditional sense. Having said that, I've lived on my own for 10 years now and it's so different having someone else around 24/7. I do need my own space, plus I have to work at times, which requires maximum concentration. I also want to do things like watch the football on tv. To be fair to her, once I explained a few things, she blended in really well, left me alone when I needed it but ,"took care" at the right times. One of the things that I do dislike when sleeping with TG's is the limpet effect, i.e. they want to hug all night. I've even had some that want to hold my dick all night. Can't be having that - once the bedroom activities are completed, I want my space in bed, no clingon until the morning. She got that too, thankfully and I did sleep well even though I had a bed companion for 4 nights. Now the bad - and shit, it had the potential to go really, really bad. Friday night we decided to stay local in Jomtien, so went to La Bocca for dinner. I've got to know the guys in there well, the food is great and always have a good time. Nice dinner, decided we'd have a couple of drinks in another bar. We crossed the road and there was one bar that had no customers, but looked ok. Went in, couple of beers, few other people came in and ended up playing Killer pool against the girls working there and a couple of customers. Good fun. Left around 11.30 and we walked up to Foodmart to buy a few bits. Came out of there, both of us with bags in both hands and walked back to the lights. Traffic lights on red, no cars turning left, just a few cars queued in the 2nd and 3rd lanes. We walked across, as always I was looking both ways. She was on my left, I was looking right to make sure no oncoming bikes. Got to the 3rd lane and I looked right, down the outside lane, where there were no cars queuing. Saw this motorbike zooming down the outside lane, I immediately stopped, pulling back a bit, in front of the queuing cars in lane 2. I looked to my left and said stop but my girl was already 1 step out into the outside lane. She jumped forward but it was too late. Smack, this fucking bike hit her, knocking the shopping everywhere and hitting her side on with a hell of a thud, obviously knocking her to the ground. I was in shock. It was a young girl on the motorbike, she skidded and came off, but was not hurt. How my girl wasn't really badly injured, God knows. She must have been doing 30 mph, fucking cow. I was so, so angry. First call obviously was my girl. She had a bad mark on her right arm and it was instantly very swollen. Looked like it was broken. She had a dent on the back of her leg too, which was really painful. Other than that, she was unscathed. Incredible. She handled it so well, hadn't banged her head, but her arm looked bad. This bitch of a girl tried to say the light was green. I took a picture of her and her bike, so had the license. I also looked around and there were cameras on the junction, so I pointed to them and said something along the lines of "they will tell us, bitch". She pulled a face, showed no compassion or remorse whatsoever. I could have smacked her and very nearly did. A few bystanders had come over by this time, in particular the Thai lady owner of the bar near the junction and her farang bf. They said to me that they saw what happened and would be happy to be witnesses. I was concerned for my girl, obviously. By this time a youngish guy had shown up who said he was "police". I said show me a badge, prove to me you are police. All I got was a shrug of the shoulders. My girl was unbelievably with it, so I said to her "can you call the police?". She did. I also asked if anyone had called an ambulance. This "cop" said he had, but we waited there at least 20 minutes before the ambulance showed up. At the same time, what looked like a real cop showed up. I didn't know what best to do - go in the ambulance with my girl or wait around to speak to the cops. I didn't want this bitch to get off with what was dangerous/reckless driving. My girl wasn't too bad, so I spoke to the ambulance guy and asked where they were taking her. Bangkok Hospital, Pattaya was the answer. Ok, so I said to my girl that I'd sort things out with the cops then come to the hospital. Meanwhile, the first "cop" that had shown up produced this badge. Wasn't a proper cop badge, but it was a badge. So the real "cop" started to speak to the bitch motorbike lady. My thoughts were best I keep out of that. The cameras (if they were working) would show the truth, plus I had witnesses who would back our story. So I interrupted and said that I'd be in the bar across the road when he wanted to speak to me. Guess what? He never came over to speak to me. He spoke to the girl, a couple of other Thai people who had been bystanders, not sure if they saw the accident or not. I had taken a picture of the badge of the first "cop" that arrived and showed it to the Thai lady bar owner. She had worked for the police in a previous life and she identified the guy as "Municipal", so not a real cop. I watched as a police truck showed up, loaded the motorbike and took it away. Then everybody dispersed, I was having a "calm me down" beer when my lady called from the hospital. Amazingly her arm wasn't broken. They took x-rays and it was just very badly bruised. Same with her leg. Absolutely unbelievable and I was so relieved. I asked if she needed me to come to the hospital (I was concerned about her being able to cover the cost) she said no, she had it covered (4,200 baht), I'm waiting for a taxi and will be back with you very soon. So she arrived at the bar as I was finishing my beer, but she was ready for a drink too, even though she rarely drinks alcohol. We stayed for a while, chatting with this lady bar owner, who was terrific, as was her farang bf. As it turned out, it was a good job my girl did call the police herself, because that meant they had to register the accident in the police log. One of the bystanders had kindly re-bagged all the shopping, so around 1 am, with real trepidation, we crossed the same road to get back to my condo. It was really difficult to sleep that night, more for me than for her. I hugged her till she dropped off, I then rolled over but couldn't sleep. So many things going through my mind. The main one being that if we hadn't both had both hands full of bags of shopping I'd have been holding her hand and would have pulled her back. I was so angry and in the morning we went to the police station. On the way there, my girl said "oh, when I was in the hospital the girl called me to ask if I was ok". I was gobsmacked. First thing I said was "how the f**k did she get your number?" Turns out the police gave it to her, from the info my girl had given to the hospital when they checked her in. WTF? How can the police legitimately give a victim's phone number to the perpetrator? That has all sorts of connotations. So we walked into the police station and I was ready for a real scrap. I told my girl that I was a witness only, everything needed to be under her name, but that we need to "do" this young bitch. First time ever in a Thai police station. Utter chaos. Queues of people waiting to pay "fines" and a separate room they label "one stop shop", whatever that's supposed to mean. So we wait a short while, then get called to sit down in front of one of the senior cops. My girl gave the details of location and time of accident, the guy went onto his PC, got up and walked over to the main desk and brought over a piece of paper. Again I was gobsmacked. The motorbike girl had made a statement and admitted liability. I have no idea how that happened - whether the police viewed the camera footage, whether another witness told her she was in the wrong or whether she'd got a conscience. As my girl explained this to me she also recalled what she'd overheard while she was waiting for the ambulance to arrive. This girl had said to someone (possibly the "cop" or a bystander, she wasn't sure, was that she didn't own the motorbike, it was owned by her ex-boyfriend. So quite possibly she had no insurance and was worried if she contested it the cops might dig more. Don't know. But whatever the reason for her admitting liability, it didn't matter to us. Her statement was full of remorse and apologies as well. So when we finished there I took her back to the hospital as they needed to do a follow up check and change the dressings, which we did. Another 1,110 baht. We took it easy on the Sunday and on Monday she had to return to the police station as they wanted her and the bike girl there at the same time to agree costs, compensation and for them to sign it off. The bike girl turns out to be 21, from Bangkok and just moved to Pattaya, working in a coffee shop. She was very apologetic when she saw us, wai'd big time to me and gave us lots of remorse. Her English was passable and surprisingly she was on her own. I was expecting some oik to be with her. Working in a coffee shop she's not a wealthy girl. While I was wanting to sting her big time (not for the money, but for the principle because she was so bloody reckless) but it was up to my girl, not me. I pushed her a bit and said that she shouldn't be compensated just for the medical bills, but the trauma involved as well all the taxis we'd had to take, there and back, to the police station and the hospital. Total actual costs were just over 7,000. My girl said 10,000 as a total, to which this girl agreed, but that she couldn't pay it in one go. I suggested 2,000 per month and she agreed to that. So it ended up that my girl had to sit in front of the cops laptop and type an agreement to that effect, dictated by the cop, which was signed by both parties, witnessed by the police with a pic taken as further confirmation. Incredible sequence of events and thankfully it all turned out ok. But the bruises that came out on my girl after a couple of days were horrendous. Black and blue all down her arm and back of her right leg. She was really sore. But shows what kind of girl she is. Incredibly she felt really bad because she considered that she'd caused me a lot of wasted time helping her and that the accident had curtailed our bedroom activities. It obviously had, but that was the last thing I was thinking about. On the 2nd morning she insisted on giving me a handie with her left hand!! Bless her. Here's a pic of my girl finishing off the agreement:-

  41. Last concert I went to must have been Cradle of Filth in Aarhus, either at Voxhall or Train. At least 10 years ago. Never been much of a concert goer. Most of the concerts I have been to was back when I was still at university. Mostly metal. Besides Cradle of Filth, I have seen Paradise Lost (3 times), King Diamond, Henry Rollins Band, HIM, Fear Factory, Nina Hagen, Carpark North, Type O Negative, Rockbitch (no I didn't get the golden condom), The Rasmus, Katatonia, Einherjer, Konkhra, Illdisposed. 10% chance I go see Amon Amarth in december.

  43. Great vehicle init, i can't quite believe how good it still looks and drives even after nearly 13 years but i don't abuse cars and have it serviced ever 6 months by the main Toyota dealer in Korat. I've never ever had a car this long in my life but there's no justification in changing it particularly when you consider how much it will cost to change, think exchange rate, when i bought in 2007 it cost 20K GBP at the then 75bht to the GBP, now to replace it would cost 43K GBP !!! Admittedly when i bought it cost 1.5M bht and is now 1.7M bht but that increase is only to be expected, like you i think it could be the last vehicle i need to buy judging by how its wearing.
