  1. Just an update on Dave Barwise. He went to hospital on Monday a week ago because he had terrible water retention throughout his body. The hospital drained 4 liters of fluid. Tests at the hospital revealed he had severe diabetes which had never been treated along with severe cirrhosis. Dave being Dave, he checked himself out of the hospital, only to return on Thursday. I spoke my last conversation with him there and although he was unable to open his eyes as he was so tired, he told me he was checking himself out. I managed to persuade him to stay. Pretty soon after his body developed sepsis which spread to his legs really quickly. He had a heart attack on Friday at 1:00am and then I had the horrible task of phoning his parents to tell them that Dave probably wouldn’t make it. He had a second heart attack at 12:35pm on Friday which was fatal. As he lay dying I played his favorite song “I Predict A Riot” and after I changed him into his favorite Leeds United shirt. I went to the Police Hospital in Bangkok yesterday to identify his body and release it for cremation which will be Saturday at 1:00pm at Wat Nong O near to the Big C Xtra. Pla is absolutely devastated. Devoted to her husband, I have never seen such a strong bond for a husband from a Thai lady. Condolenses to his parents Dennis and Margret and his brothers Anthony and Martin. Had he stayed in hospital on Monday I’m sure he would be alive now. He had severe diabetes but it would be under control. He had money to pay the hospital. I’m not sure what he was thinking and never will.

  2. Please.... do we have to go there. Barsie lived his life how he wanted... why deride his decision when he cannot answer. Thanks Egg for what you done for him in his last moments and support to Pla. Let him RIP and remember the positive things about his life. Sympathy to Pla... and his family. RIP .

  3. Agree. Also had one of the best Mamasans in town. During the height of its popularity it was considered to be "out of the way". I recall going there on a bar crawl with a few BM's at the time, after which we descended upon a "Ska" themed bar on Chaiyapoon, one of maybe 2 or 3 bars on the road at the time. We felt like we were in the boonies. LKM had pretty much nothing to offer and all the action was on 7/8, pattayaland 2 and Walking St. Changing tastes indeed.

  4. I browse the web almost every day, looking for a bargain that I like. There are plenty of bargains, though none of them appease me. Property prices are not that low compared to rental prices, lots of showboxes without a view and far away from the beaches are reduced. A couple of links which I frequent more often than others: 1. These sites are connected to many of the agencies, everyday there are new ads on. https://www.thailand-property.com/properties-for-sale/chonburi/pattaya?sort=newest http://pattayahouseguide.com/ 2. Only houses, usually good deals, not overpriced bullshit you find on the facebook pages I posted below. https://www.pattayahouseforsale.com/ 3. Some of the major agencies that have new ads always on top (or you can arrange them by posting date), so easy to find a new offer: https://www.coastalrealestatepattaya.com/ https://www.thaiproperty.com/for_sale_and_for_rent https://www.fazwaz.com/property-for-sale/thailand/chon-buri/pattaya http://www.jomtien-property.com/ https://www.pattayacondosandhomes.com/ https://pattayaprestigeproperties.com/ http://www.rightmovepattaya.com/ http://thaiproperty.net/search_results.php?recent=1 https://www.thailand-property-gate.com/ 4. Facebook. Most of these pages have the same posters. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1807104869504032/buy_sell_discussion https://www.facebook.com/groups/230327430500204/buy_sell_discussion https://www.facebook.com/groups/pattayarealestatenetwork/buy_sell_discussion https://www.facebook.com/groups/657067661028885/buy_sell_discussion https://www.facebook.com/groups/297383420411880?sorting_setting=RECENT_LISTING_ACTIVITY https://www.facebook.com/groups/1772914266326979/?sorting_setting=RECENT_ACTIVITY https://www.facebook.com/groups/1772914266326979/?sorting_setting=RECENT_ACTIVITY https://www.facebook.com/groups/1444795172430096/buy_sell_discussion https://www.facebook.com/groups/pattayabargains?sorting_setting=RECENT_LISTING_ACTIVITY There are probably many more. 5. Baht&Sold, probably the best source for good deals as some of them are direct sales by owner. https://www.bahtsold.com/quicksearch2?c=11&ca=&pr_from=0&pr_to=NULL&top=0&s= I have another 30 or so websites of property agencies, if interested I will post them as well. I only look at these once in a month.

  6. Another rainy day here in my locale - lazed around the house yesterday and will probably have a pub afternoon as it's cheap draft day in my two most regular locals. I went downtown to our gov't run liquor store today and was first in the door at 0900 - one side benefit of Covid is that they open for seniors only between 0900-1000 and I can be in and out of there in five minutes...

  8. It's always sad when an "icon" goes, but Buffalo Bar had a much longer run than most bars in Pattaya. I believe it started in the 1990s, maybe earlier. But it had been on the decline for a long time and I'm a bit surprised it lasted as long as it did. Even pre-Covid it had become only the faintest shadow of what it had once been. Just like FLB and Secrets, Buffalo Bar fell victim to the changing tastes and demographics of Pattaya's visitors. Evil

  9. If we don't get night clubs, bars, music venues open now they won't get opened this year, and if we carry on like this then we might as well forget about them ever opening as, without continuing government support, they will all be bankrupt. We have to live with Covid, not live in fear of it.

  11. Real tragedy reading about Barsie’s final days......damn. You see a young man who’s thin and handsome and assume his biggest health risk in LOS would be hopping on a motorbike Kudos to @mistereggfor all the assistance he gave him, especially after having just survived a huge scare himself. Very unselfish act, and I know many expats have gotten sick alone, no friends, at the mercy of whatever hospital staff are on duty, 7,000 miles from home...that’s no fun

  12. That's sad to hear. Though his lifestyle was terrible in the past. Huge drinker, 30 pints a day man. Mate I used to work with, his brother was a pro dart player for a while. Ex BDO and PDC,my mate would travel to some tournament's with his brother. They would car share with other players. One would sometimes be Andy. Mate said he would do a 24 pack of lager on the way to the longer trips. Said Andy was a blinding fella, real sound geezer. Lost lots of weight. Not sure if he put it all back on again. RIP Andy.

  13. Bar bar......beer beer.....boom boom! And that was just Monday. I doubt if I will ever be happier than I once was in Pattaya. Unfortunately for a number of reasons those days are gone and they are not going to return. FLB, Bouche, Catz, Living Dolls 2, Secrets ................and that was just Tuesday.

  14. There is life and activity in Pattaya between 0700 and 0830 hours. A few from this morning's walk. It is lottery day today. All this and I had a hair cut all before 0830 am.

  15. For me, the Pattaya icons I miss the most are FLB and its owner MM (RIP Martin). The attitude and service of the FLB hostesses represent a "best of Pattaya" spirit that has since mostly disappeared. Some my most memorable bar-girl experiences came with FLB hostesses. Evil

  16. Hadn't grilled Ribeyes in a while so off I go to my favorite butcher. Prices have shot up. Pre covid I was paying $16.99 per pound... which when on sale would go down to $10.99 per pound. So I was shocked to see a price of $26.99 per pound. So after much observation I have come to the conclusion that one of the worst side effects of the Corona pandemic is price gouging. Or just plain greed. So I begrudgingly pay up for 2 beautiful steaks ($73.00) and off I go. The

  20. Thanks for the update Phil. It's very sad when people won't let the experts help them and suffer the worst fate. That's the second person in recent years that I knew. The other friend wouldn't go to hospital even though he could hardly walk and sadly passed alone in his condo. I can kind of understand if money wasn't available, but that wasn't the case!

  22. I've been buying and selling shares since I was 19. Done very well out of it on the whole but been a few disasters on the way. Had shares in an Aussie copper miner that went most of the way to zero 😁 At the same time I was in an South African platinum miner and some tech stocks that turned into multi- baggers. As I've got older, like everyone I've got more conservative in my stock selection. I wouldn't rule out a a dabble in Crypto myself put would treat it as a pure gamble. As mentioned wouldn't want the money for buying and selling it coming out of my bank accounts.

  23. Well this guy didn't have much luck, but a Guardian reader so serves him right 😀 https://www.theguardian.com/money/2017/jul/26/sell-bitcoins-hsbc-block-account Joking aside it does raise other red flags on transparency, reliability and convertibility, as does this https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/investing/article-9118141/Coinbase-cryptocurrency-traders-continue-face-frozen-funds-weeks.html You could be a pioneer for the board Pump, and a put a small amount in and dabble. Wouldn't like to have the money coming from a bank account account to pay for them, I'd use paypal or similar. At worst you'd have a ceiling on your losses, just don't chase them or get lured into betting the farm. Alternatively if things ever reopen I'm sure you'll get guys hanging around the ex-pat haunts in BKK and Pats offering you a chance to invest in crypto Pump😎

  25. More info on Thailand's decision to replace the 2nd shot of Sinovac with AZ. Looks like Thailand is going out on a limb with the mixed dose change, but given the lack of effectiveness of Sinovac they had to do something. Interesting also that Sinovac barely squeaked in at 51% effective, just over the WHO guideline of 50%. Thailand to boost Sinovac with AstraZeneca as Delta variant drives worst COVID-19 outbreak ... Officials in Thailand referenced a local study in their announcement, but experts say there is no peer-reviewed research on the approach. Infectious disease and vaccine expert Tony Cunningham from the Westmead Institute for Medical Research said Delta had "changed the whole scope of things". "It's a fairly desperate position for countries that are experiencing Delta surges and you just simply cannot rely on Sinovac alone," Professor Cunningham said. "But what they're doing is untested and untried." World Health Organization (WHO) chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said the body was awaiting "data from mix and match studies of different vaccines" and warned individuals not to make decisions around mixing doses themselves. Sinovac is approved by the WHO and is one of the vaccines distributed under the COVAX facility. The Chinese-developed vaccine has an efficacy rate of 51 per cent, compared to AstraZeneca's 82 per cent. Under WHO guidelines, vaccine manufacturers must hit a vaccine efficacy target of 50 per cent. But as epidemiologist Hassan Vally says, variants have reduced the effectiveness of all vaccines. "You've got a vaccine like Sinovac that's 51 per cent effective in the trials, which were testing against the original strain of SARS CoV-2, and now you've got these variants of concern," he said. "The immune response elicited by the vaccine is being evaded by these variants, so you're getting reduced effectiveness of these vaccines in the real world, which is why Thailand is seeing what it's seeing and why it's working less effectively against the Delta variant." ...

  36. I must admit I was pissed off at the end when the female presenter used Urdu to speak to the Pakistani players. It's not like they do not speak English so the only reason I can think of is it was for the Pakistani spectators....total bollocks it took place in England and I would guess most of them can speak English,if not they should be learning. More wokeism I suspect.
