galenkia
So June 21st is the target for all restrictions to be lifted. Personally not fussed about International travel, I just want my life here back to normal, especially going to see live music. 4

June still seems so far away, but then we have had a year of misery and I guess although we have to endure another 3 months or so, there is now some sort of light at the end of the tunnel and better things to look forward to, hoping that there will not be any further obstacles in the way regarding the virus. Let's hope, as BoJo said in his road map speech today that this will be the last time that we have lockdown in the UK. Other countries no doubt will have different plans and different time frames as UK seems to be far ahead in vaccinations than many other countries, despite being o e of the world's most hard hit witt the virus. I hope that we might also have second funeral ceremonies to properly pay respect to those who have perished from the Corona Virus and were unable to do so under the restrictions. 2

The UK will be lifting any quarantine and other Covid restrictions on June 21st? At least that is the targeted date? So that would also include Northern Ireland then, and I wonder if then Ireland might also follow suit? Guess we'll just have to wait and see. If I was able to take a holiday in Europe, then a return to Ireland would be my first choice. Going into a pub, whether in a large city like Cork or Galway, or a small village like Birr, where a good friend of mine lives, is one of the great joys of life. When I was there, I met many Brits who flew into Dublin for a weekend from Manchester for a song. Very cheap expense to travel there for them, saving their hard earned cash for the important stuff like pints of Guinness. 1

But the devolved Governments in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have their own say as to when they lift restrictions. Wouldn't be much different IMO. Republic of Ireland have said the highest level of restrictions they are currently on will stay until end of April. Though i'd say they will do similar as Northern Ireland. I cancelled my Xmas trip to Northern Ireland to see my parents, they see their grand daughter, just cancelled the rearranged Easter one as well, rebooked for end of May. Though that's domestic UK, which is allowed from 12th April, but overnight stays would not be allowed. I can't really 'break' those rules, as i work for Public Health, so if found out, i'd be in trouble. Plus my parents will both have had both their vaccine shots by that time, so stress free. Imagine trying to tell my mum or dad not to hug or kiss their grand daughter, would have been some arguments!! So end of May just makes sense for us in all sorts of ways.

Nightcrawler
I was just looking at the stats for the rest of the world regarding Covid infections and spread. China only appears to have a few cases, reportedly carried by non nationals entering China. If that is true, and China was the first to have an outbreak, then it maybe the case that other countries may be able follow suit. Israel also appears tbe doing well. I would imagine that C19 and various mutations is going to be around for a long time and won't just disappear but my hope is that, wit vaccination and reduced spread, that it could become no more dangerous than Flu in the future. But from what I have been reading, I thi k that is still a few years.down the road. It is looking quite promising that vaccines are going to be the end game, coupled with natural antibodies built up in those who have had the virus and recovered. If the numbers of hospital admissions and deaths, can be significantly reduced over the next year, then the battle is half over. My biggest concern is whether the virus will mutate into a much more aggressive strain when it is under attack.

Sure, but that depends, like everything else what we choose to believe and evidence available. That said, China has a massive population, and I think we would know if they were experiencing a massive repeat pandemic, just from. Western reporters on the ground in China. My point was really about looking at other countries in the world as a barometer including UK. The question will be in time to come, as to who got it right? The C19 pandemic happened so quickly and spread across the globe rapidly in just a couple of months and took the world by surprise. Some countries including USA ignored it for several. Months and it would go away by Spring 2020. Other countries went into early lockdown. For me, its going to be interesting how different countries have or are currently dealing with the Virus and what has been most effective.

Can't remember the precise year, but around 8 years ago I saw Styx, who were backing up Boston, at Red Rocks, Colorado. Brilliant concert, Styx were awesome and what a venue for a concert. Toy Boy
China's vaccination programme has stalled for several reasons, unless they start jabbing a lot more people there won't be any mass-tourism coming to save Thailand's bacon from there... Downing Street is considering allowing businesses to demand to see the app to ensure that staff or customers are at much lower risk of being infectious. Michael Gove will lead a review into issues relating to vaccine passports, which the government is reconsidering after previously branding them discriminatory. It is understood that the government wants people to have the option of showing either vaccination status or test results to ensure that the scheme not does penalise those who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons. Popular Post Krapow
The end is now genuinely in sight. By the end, i mean we will get to a place where it can be managed by vaccines mostly, though also new treatments and stuff like the vaccine passports. I can remember posting near enough exactly about this time last year that anyone is still thought this was just a 'flu' hadn't been paying attention, this was sadly going to be something much more profound and deadly. Vaccines have been the game changer, despite what cantankerous, stubborn old French men screaming 'Vaccine Dreamers' would have you believe! The UK will be a different place come the Summer, i have no doubt there will be European travel as i've said all along, and hopefully Thailand will open up end of the year to tourists like myself who still work and can only do about 3 weeks per trip. It's been a horrendous time in so many ways, it isn't over yet, but certainly the end is in sight. This Forum has been both a help and a frustration getting through this. Times i've took a break from this thread, or took a break from the whole forum. But so glad it's still here, and i predict it to will see a resurgence and back to being more fun, and sharing stories about latest trips to Thailand, not the latest Covid death toll or restrictions. Better days are coming, ya bunch of sex pest, inglorious bastards 😁 8

Better days are coming, ya bunch of sex pest, inglorious bastards 😁 Leeds and Reading festival to go ahead in August, the UK will be a different place this Summer! Science is wonderful. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-56185142 Reading and Leeds Festival organisers say they are "very confident" the events will go ahead this summer, after plans to ease lockdown were announced. Under the government's plan, limits on social contact in England could be gone by 21 June, if Covid is under control. The twin-site festival is due to take place from 27 to 29 August. "The good news is that we can be very confident that Reading and Leeds is going to take place," festival boss Melvin Benn told BBC Radio 1. Asked how the event could go ahead when others like Glastonbury had been forced to cancel, he told Radio 1's Newsbeat: "In fairness, we haven't done it, the government have done it. The government are vaccinating everybody and that's how it's going to happen.
