Just spent last 3 hours helping Kataleya do her week's homework, this online tuition is a pain when you are not a teacher and you have a thousand other things to do!

Wish she was in school, wasn't expecting her to be at home this week... downtime now so we can both relax, beer in fridge looks lonely.

Been busy all day re-felting my shed roof. I had a small leak in the summer where the felt nails were, as it's in a corner of my garden, and to do it properly I would need access to 2 of my neighbours property and cut half a tree down, I decided to paint the whole roof with a water proof paint. I managed to do this all from my side using a long pole and a roller. It's been great for 5 months.

Unfortunatley this week the felt on my neighbours side has cracked and I had water ingrees which was soaking my wooden beams to an extent that they have expanded and ridden up. With permission from my neighbours and help from a mate who weighs 8 stone wet through, ( good to climb on the roof ) we have stripped it all off and re-done it. The side trims have been replaced with plastic as the wood was rotten.

Now, just got sat down for a restfull evening watching TV.

Down the road you & your daughter will be closer for the experience.

It's a confusing time to be a parent, yet not near as confusing for a child.

Best to support & love them...and talk to them about what's going on.

During the regular school term (in person) I rarely see much of my 8-yo daughter. Having her home doing remote schooling is something I will cherish down the road when she is a teenager (and ignoring me). 😉

You are right but been doing the fatherly bit for 7 weeks while Porn is visiting relatives in Thailand. I have enjoyed it, it is just the homework I hate.  Wife back on Sunday which will be odd as the last 7 weeks have been easier than I thought, loved it really minus the schoolwork.

I'm a full time single parent. Baby mama only visits once in a blue moon. With Covid "shelter in place" since mid-March...very few breaks. Summer was better and there was a 6-week football clinic in the Fall, but now as Covid has caught on fire again here in California...arrgghhh.

I make my daughter (mostly) do her own homework. I tell her "how are you going to learn if I do it for you? When she gets frustrated, I tell her to take a break and try later. A lot of times when I ask about it later...it's done.

The biggest parenting challenge (for me) right now is her "screen" time. With zoom school, messenger chats with mama & family back in Thailand, kid movies, and some game playing she's on the chromebook, tablet, big screen and mobile a lot more than I like. Fortunately, she reads books and does art projects...

I've thought about traveling back to Thailand so she can go to school in her grandparents village (my daughter has a Thai passport - dual w/US). But, with all the hoops to jump through (especially the 14 day quarantine), extra costs (Covid tests, insurance, etc), and limited travel options (around Asia) it is more than I want to deal with right now.

So...we'll stay put, wait our turn for vaccines and hope we can travel in the not too far off future.

Why would you wanna send her to a useless village school where she will be brainwashed, when you can give a decent education in the US ?

Sorry, not attacking, but I am surprised anybody would even THINK about that ?

The reason I would think about extended schooling in Thailand (for longer than a visit) is my daughter needs to have time with other kids to play, run around, etc. The US Covid response situation is having a very negative effect on children who are isolated from their peers.

My daughter normally attends a neighborhood public school near home nine months a year (3rd grade). Unfortunately, she can't now other than "remotely" since early March when the city "shut down." There is no chance the school will have in-person classes anytime before late summer 2021.

Up until this year my daughter attended the village school for 5/6 weeks in the summer when we visited. Her aunt teaches there and one of her uncles is the local area manager. It's a decent school system.

At some point, an extended period in TH will help her catch up on her rusty Thai language skills. There's a fair chance she will live in Thailand as an adult, and I feel strongly she should speak, read, and write at a professional level.

A visit to Thailand will also allow my daughter to spend time with her great grandmother, grandparents, aunties, cousins, friends, etc.

What I know/hear from Isaan is there's no Covid in the region. Life is "normal."

Trying to decide which polo shirt to pack from my wardrobe(s) of best shagging gear to complement my dark blue levi's and black Nike's.

Or maybe the light blue jeans?

Decisions, decisions!

Booked into my 590 baht hotel room in Soi Bukhou for tonight and looking forward to a night of fun, alcohol and naughtiness in the company of the usual suspects.

May well end up in Naughty Girls again with their naughty girls but the world is my lobster as Del Boy might say. 🤣

Normally, it's very easy to manage our lives in the US & visit TH (except now due to the current problem of getting there). I'm looking forward to spending my twilight days there (if I make it that far). To each their own in this regard.

Well noted Lazarus.

My kids did their first years in France, till respectively 13, 9, 8 y old . This gave them some good bases in European culture and allowed to be fluent in French.

After we moved to Thailand (2008) they all 3 attended Assumption college in BKK, a catholic school of a proper level.

They are now 25, 21, 20 and all 3 fluent in French, English, Thai spoken and written. One is now in UNI, 2 other have started their independent life. One in France (Army), the one in UNI plans to go overseas at the end of his studies, the youngest one is looking for an international career as well. Probably got the travel bug from me.

None of them 3 attaches much importance to their grandparents in LOS, let alone the extended family.....

Same as they don't attach a big importance concerning where I live / retire. Which is the way it should be IMO. When I left home at 18, family was not my first concern. I had decided to go my way, and that's what I did.

Anyway, all the best.

And concerning home schooling, I don't think I would have "survived" it schooling 3 at home !

I just pulled a fast one on Ziggy .. we were out on the sea fishing and Ziggy was complaining to me about her mom always "busting her balls" about getting her homework done ....

So, I said to Beach gal .. please don't say anything to Ziggy about homework ... I will stay on her case about her doing ...

Everyday now I am asking Ziggy about her homework ( when I am at home ) . let me review it with you .. lets see how you have done with it ..

Beach gal and I are a "team" ... Ziggy needs to understand we only want the best for her ... she will get it ...

Yeah, I was off to the blue yonder at 18, as well. 40+ years of adventure, thrill & chills, and bit of work here & there. 😉

Didn't really connect with my folks until later in life. Glad I did as it taught me a lot.

In this crazy world right now I think "family" is more important than ever.

Yet, what works for some...doesn't always work for others.

Yea .. I agree .. the only family I have ever had is Beach gal and Ziggy .. I love them both to death and will do anything for them also ....

I know it sounds funny coming from me the way I f**k around sometimes and the trouble I have caused my self in the past .. but, there is something deep inside of me that just seems to "complete"  me being with them ....
