  4. My daughter -- who just turned 8yo - is fluent in Thai & English and also speaks fair Isaan/Lao. She was born in Bangkok, then moved to her home village in Sisaket when 2 months, and we split time between TH & the US until she was about 5yo. She started off in pre-school in the village and also attended pre-school when in the US. At 5yo she moved permanently to live with me the US. She attends a local public school that we can walk to, as well as weekend Thai language classes at the local Wat. I read to her almost every night before she goes to sleep. Her mama lives close by (about 30 minutes away) and they speak mainly Thai when they are visiting. She practices her Thai writing and reading with her mama. We travel together for two months each summer in TH/SE Asia. While I'm off seeing Asia, she stays with her grandparents and attends the local elementary school (her TH family are teachers). We missed this summer due to the COVID travel restrictions. When I lived in TH people told me it's important for mixed kids who grow up overseas to learn TH -- speaking, reading, writing -- as they have a good chance of living in Thai when they are adults and are at a disadvantage if their TH skills are limited to speaking. She a good kid, very bright, engaging, & she loves the ocean...

  9. I was really sad to hear this news - his music for those westerns you mention was brilliant and years ahead of it's time. Couldn't resist digging some out - some of my favourite scenes with brilliant music in all of them. Music aside, I just love the actual ending of For A Few Dollars More. Great partnership was Clint with Lee Van Cleef. "Any trouble boy?" . . . . And the music in the section below in The Good, The Bad and the Ugly still gives me the tingles. Music starts about 1 min in . . .

BBC4 is usually good on Friday nights too for music and documenteries. Bananarama actually look pretty good even now with age. Cheers mate πŸ‘

  16. Tonight I went a checked out the only gogo open on Walking Street: Tantra. First let me say that I admire them for opening up and giving people the chance to earn a living. Pattaya needs more businesses open. Tonight is the first night of a 4 day holiday and Pattaya is more crowded than it's been in months. Lots of domestic tourists. Anyway, back to Tantra. Tantra is a long thin gogo with one long thin stage in the middle broken into three pieces allow people to cross from one side of the room to the other. They wrapped a long sheet of plastic around the poles crating a huge cocoon around the whole stage from knee level up to about head level. There were a few breaks in the cocoon to allow girls to enter and leave the stage. The girls were not topless (although I remember fondly some topless shows at this gogo not too long ago). The girls were not even in bikinis, they were dressed in nice outfits but fully clothed. The girls were not even dancing. They sat motionless on high stools sitting on the stage. That's right, the entertainment offered by this gogo and for which you pay a premium in your drink price is to watch a fully clothed girl sitting quietly on a stool behind a sheet of plastic. And to make things worse I think they got their DJ from a auto parts store since he played solid car-alarm sounds the whole time. Not even a break to play actual music as they used to do when the showgirls got on stage. I know this is a phase and we'll get though this. I don't see why having the dancer dance topless would be so harmful to them or the customer. It would be a whole lot more entertaining. And Walking Street is no longer exclusive to walkers. Cars are parked along the street and motorbikes roam freely and park wherever they want. It's chaos I tell you.

  19. Come next month in the UK when employers have to start paying some, even just NI and tax i think for the first month, it's going be carnage. Currently the Government are paying money for jobs that aren't there anymore. They need to change their approach to creating jobs, not paying for ones that are already gone.

  21. My sisters main shop has managed to remain open and very busy, which is lucky for the 20+ staff in the main business, but they closed their take out for a month or so and furloughed all the 5 staff employed in there. Now they’ve re opened it again after reorganisation of the shop and all the staff are back in full time employment. So luckily they’ve managed to save all the jobs in the business, but many small businesses have gone under around the country and thousands of jobs have been lost forever.

  33. I flew PE on EVA on the YVR-TPE-BKK route for 13 years, with the occasional upgrade to business, and enjoyed it thoroughly. I switched to Cathay Pacific in PE for my last trip because EVA was dropping PE from YVR with their switch to the 787, and didn't find it quite up to the standard I had enjoyed with EVA. I ended up flying home in early April on Korean Air in economy because of the closure of HKG and it was quite enjoyable but that is mainly because the plane was almost empty - I don't relish the thought of flying economy on a long flight again with a return to normal capacities - I have been spoiled now and will willingly pay extra for a more comfortable flight for the longer routes.

  35. Well I guess i'm listening mow than watch with the odd glance at the tv. A blast from the past:- Top of the Pops 1983 - Big Hits Compilation of some of the biggest hits of 1983 to sit alongside 'The Story of...' documentary that explores the evolution of this great pop institution in that golden year. Performances celebrate soul, reggae, jazz, new wave and pop. And the big hits are delivered by Wham!, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Police, Culture Club, Siouxsie and The Banshees, UB40, Duran Duran, The Beat and Bananarama amongst others. Big ballads are performed by Elton John and Bonnie Tyler, while Malcolm McLaren's Double Dutch completes the very best of '83, golden hits from 34 years ago.

  36. Careful, Premium Economy is the gateway drug into business lol. I totally agree, economy is a tough gig these days, especially if , like me, you suffer with lower back pain and a buggered shoulder from years of manual work which I still do. I do have a ceiling price for PE, but after each journey I always tell myself that it's worth it. I have done economy a few times, and each time I always tell myself to pay the extra and go PE the next time πŸ™‚

  41. When I was living off Soi Khaotalo I arranged for a friend to bring me back over from the UK two different varieties of runner beans as I used to love growing and eating them. I prepared their "plot" and built a classic framework using bamboo from the house next door's awful hedge. I planted two beans per pole to be reduced to one and within three days really healthy looking plants had appeared. I watered them well before going off to work. Came back in the evening and went out to see how they were getting on. All eaten! Planted some more and when they emerged put a cunning net over the whole row. All eaten! If at first you don't succeed......................................Give up and have a couple of beers! Sai immediately planted a horrible Thai inferior quality Thai variety of bean under my runner bean poles that of coursed flourished. "I could have told you yours would get eaten." "Why didn't you?" "You didn't ask ....... Som-nom-na πŸ˜€"
