  1. Everywhere a business opportunity. There are companies where you send them a selfie and they print the lower half of your face onto the mask. https://mymodernmet.com/own-face-mask-maskalike/

  2. Funny story. An American guy came in the bar on Saturday and said “are you misteregg?” I said yes. He said he had been reading my stuff online and wanted to come and have a drink in Le Pub. He saw the sign on Walking St but didn’t see the arrow and thought the bar underneath it was Le Pub. He had been there several times buying lots of drinks and asking if misteregg was here, but the staff said “no, he come later” or “he not here” This had gone on for several days before he took a walk deeper into soi Diamond and saw the real Le Pub and met me.

  3. I think the point is that the UK's approach is fundamentally wrong and indexation should not depend on social security treaties or where you happen to settle down. If you've paid the same as somebody else, then you should receive the same benefit, no matter where you live.

  6. Certainly a lot of people are behaving that way, which worries me. We will have an upsurge in cases soon, just as Spain, France and Germany are experiencing.

  7. Gotta love the girls 'he come later'. It's like when you ask them if your favourite girl is in the bar and they say 'no sick not come work tonight', when she's really just been barfined 30 mins ago. The bargirls union, it could give the UN a run for its money.

  8. QANTAS retired the last of its 747s, ahead of schedule due to Covid-19. As it headed off to the Mojave desert it flew a rather strange route. For the uninitiated, the QANTAS logo. Aerial sign-writing in a 747.

  16. Against what the UK resident Pensioners spend in the UK, need be balanced what they "cost" the U.K. Health Care Social benefits Free Bus Pass Subsidized train travel Winter Heating Allowance Etc. etc. U.K. Pensioners resident in Thailand get none of that and still don't get an Index Linked State Pension Pension Has anyone ever calculated how much 1,000 average U.K. resident Pensioners typically cost the State, over and above their State Pension, and then compared that to the cost of Index Linking the Pensions of 1,000 average U.K. Pensioners living in the likes of Thailand ? I would be surprised if there wouldn't be a Nett saving. A saving that would then be increased by not having to have an additional administrative system just to keep track of which Pensioners did not get the "full" pension.

  20. Of course rhe relationship is the base, and is what makes it work or break. I lived : With my French companion in France, Egypt and Korea. Korea broke it up, my fault With my Thai wife in Thailand 6y, France 10 y. Back to Thailand she messed it up. With my Indo companion in HKG 3 y, in Bali now 2 y. All combinations can work, but it take some effort from both parties. I remember my son's g/f discussing with Miss Indo "not easy to live with foreigner".... Haha, and my son and me agreeing "not easy to live with an Asian" Cheers. Have been a bit on the piss yesterday, and I think I'll continue today ! Better enjoy life, this is the last straight road before the cremation parade....

  21. Then if you've been honest with DWP, your state pension won't be index-linked. There's an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Frozen British Pensions chaired by Sir Roger Gale MP, and they are asking for written submissions to get their Inquiry started. http://frozenbritishpensions.org/appg-for-frozen-british-pensions-launches-inquiry/ Anybody affected by a frozen pension can respond, just pen some answers to the questions under the heading "For those affected by frozen pensions" on this page: http://frozenbritishpensions.org/2020-appg-inquiry/ and e-mail it to the address given: [email protected] The closing date for submissions is 3 August 2020, so you haven't got long. I know it's unlikely to make any difference, but there's always an outside chance that the government is throwing so much money around at the moment they may not care about righting this wrong. Even if it doesn't make much difference to you, it's worth doing as it's undeniably wrong that people who've paid the same taxes should receive different benefits simply because of where they chose to live after retiring. There are many British pensioners around the world whose main source of income is the frozen state pension, so be a sport and try to help them out by sending a response.

  24. We all think this Emirates COVID-19 "FREE" insurance is a great thing, right? What's that old saying about "if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!" Lets just say, that Thailand is fully open to tourists. If you want to fly on Emirates, or even Etihad to get to Bangkok, you will need from 1st August to have your COVID free test already completed in your own country, no later than 96 hours before departure!!! ALL transit passengers (irregardless of where you are actually flying to or from) now travelling through the U.A.E have to have this done at a state approved lab! Even if you are not actually deplaning in Dubai! So, now you have your 2 weeks in the sun in Thailand, you now need AGAIN to have your test retaken in Thailand no later than 96 hours before departure! Your current holiday price has now just increased by another £400 per person! Still think that free Emirates insurance is great? Its a win-win situation for Emirates, as the chances of you actually needing it are practically zero! But with this great bit of advertising, they have just sold a shit load more seats on an otherwise empty jet!

  25. That was (and still is) KLM, not the B747, which I think is way to noisy (prefer A340 and A380 where four engined planes are concerned, much more quiet). I am Dutch and I prefer to fly just about any decent airline above KLM (and no, Ryan Air doesn't qualify as decent).

  27. Zero interest in temples. Whatever the country. Think I visited ONE in my 10y in BKK. And one here in Bali when my daugther visited. Note that the Miss didn't even bother to go with us.... Not her thing. But have visited a few churches and cathedrals in France. Simply because it's my culture.

  31. Wat Saket (The Golden Mount). I took a canal boat down to the temple. It was a nice experience, and it was interesting to see the old canal boats still make up such a vital part of Bangkok's transport infrastructure, they are lifeline for the less well off Thais. The temple is sat on top of an artificial hill and has great views of the city. The climb up to the top is beautifully decorated, really enjoyable trip. The best thing about it was that it wasn't thronged with chinese hordes, other than a couple of farang and a few thai students, the place was empty.

  32. I still on occasion watch the old Fleetwood Mac of the Green era on youtube, when they were a blues band. What an incredible talent this guy was. Looking back, it is just remarkable the guitar talent that was playing back in the late 60's in London and throughout England. A proverbial "Who's who" of guitar wizards, and all of them emerging out of the blues scene then. And Peter Green was the equal of any of them. Read some very nice tributes about him from others who appreciated his talent.

  36. Yes, as I recall it ended up in the ECJ where the judges ruled that the state pension is a benefit rather than a contractual right so the government was free to meddle with it as it pleased. Thanks a bunch, I'm glad we've left Europe now if that's the best your justice system can come up with, lol!

  37. Fortunately my wife is well trained by me in the firearms arena. Things changed at this particular gun range, new owners now and no cameras or videos allowed anymore. Had not been there since last summer and with covid and all. She did well and actually told me on the way home, she prefers to shoot the Carbine.

  41. I really enjoyed my recent visit to Hua Hin. The beach there is fantastic and was very quiet when we visited. The sky bar at the Holiday Inn has an incredible 360 degrees viewing deck and great cocktails, when the chinks cleared off after their 15 minute flag chasing stinkfest, it was almost empty. We visited mrigadayavan palace which was stunning and well worth a visit, we also went to rajabhakti park, personally I thought it was gawdy and like something from North Korea. It went down a storm with the TG who I was with. The naughty nightlife area is not worth visiting alone for, well not in my opinion. Soi Bintabaht is about 300m long, with maybe 2 dozen or more bars, and the two nights we visited we seen maybe 200 people on the entire soi. The bars were nice, the people were friendly and the drinks were affordable, but really not worth going there if you are looking a bunk up. Hua Hin gets a huge thumbs up from me.
