“I don’t know where this ride will end, but I know where to begin.” (Read the chapters in any order) I started this thread as I wanted to see what others would come up with. BTW, I am in the middle of a book. It's a collection of various experiences broken up into chapters. Been working on it for years. Flowers over at Addicts was writing a book and started a thread about it. He echoed what I have always thought. Several publishers in Thailand have put out some pretty average material- so hey why not? The only way for me to find out if I am writing garbage or something that would be of interest is to submit my collection of chapters to these publishers.5 points

In 2000 I had a 1994 325i saloon and was hungering after an E36 328i Sport Coupe.I was working at a BAe plant at Woodford and had been to see a few when I'd come home but they were all too expensive & had too many miles. A mate came into work one day & said Coxy they've got just what you're looking for in the Wilmslow BMW dealer. So I went down there in my 30min lunch break & bought it,8000 miles,8 months old & I think it was around£26k.Great car.5 points

I keep hearing an advert for a new "Hip Hop" bar that has just opened in L K Metro. The owners could not have heard of "Due Diligence." Given the likely average age of our expat community if there is one venue that is absolutely doomed for failure it is Hip Hop bar.5 points

I wish we could see a little heat over here - another dismal weekend done and rainy days forecast for the next week - I've almost written summer off at this point, the leaves will start to turn in another week or so anyway. The best we can hope for now is a couple of weeks of "Indian Summer" in September - oops, maybe I should call it "Aboriginal Autumn" in this PC day and age, lol...2 points

Absolutely I made conscientious decisions when it came to life changing choices. The majority of mine have been career decisions. I'll give one example. I'm a Brit and in the mid-80's I was headhunted by a US company to move and work there. I took that job. No regrets. My wife and I had an 18-month old daughter. We then had a son, who was born in the US. After about two years I'd gone through all the rigmarole, with the company's help, of being approved for a green card. I'd received the letter of approval for all the family (except my son, who was joint US/UK anyway). I was then head-hunted for a managing directors job with a big company in London. I was only 32, so to get such a top job offer was awesome. They flew me to London first class for a weekend to go through all the formalities and the official job offer. So a massive dilemma. If I took the job I'd lose the green card. If I didn't take it I'd be turning down a massive opportunity. I decided to take the job. I'd love to know what would have happened if I'd stayed in the US. A whole different career. Plus my daughter, to this day, gives me stick that I didn't stay so she'd have a green card. Sibling rivalry cos my son was dual national anyway, so he can live and work in either place. I absolutely get and agree with what you say as to counting my blessings and I have no regrets. I've had a great life, both my kids are happy and successful. So it's not a case of regretting the decision I made at that crossroads, I'd just love to know what would have happened if I'd turned the job down.1 point

Heading home saw these guys walking the roof panel up the roof girders. No safety ropes in sight. There's a bit of breeze blowing right now, so half expected a gust to fling the panel and them along with it off the roof. A couple of the Thai neighbors were out watching the spectacle, and I expect they were thinking the same.1 point

Some are waiting for the other shoe to drop as to why Thailand was not hit hard. Some think their hiding something. Newsflash: They're not! Accept the fact that they skirted the brunt of the virus and be happy about it.1 point

O.K. images as promised :- This is the bathroom of a Pattaya town house, built approx 15 years ago. As you can see, it has a toilet, a bath tub ( used only as a shower ) and a wash basin The electric water heater feeds hot water to both the bath mixer tap and the wash basin tap. We are currently working on an identical bathroom directly above :- The bathtub has been removed, together with the toilet and the wash basin. The ceramic floor tiles lifted and the floor "tanked" - the justification for the upgrade was that water was leaking down through the floor to the room below; the floor tile grouting had failed. The wall tiles below the waistline trim removed. An extension has been built to widen the showerhead wall ( the width of the original bath alcove being insufficient for a decent shower cubicle ). New wall tiles fitted from the waistline down. A beam formed for the shower door to sit on, approx 4 cm above finished floor level. The floor tiles yet to be laid and the shower head wall and return ( shelf alcove ) yet to be tiled. I'll post more images when fully complete. F.Y.I. here are images of a similar bathroom upgrade that we did last year ( same problem, water leaking through to the room below ), using the same style of shower door, which is in fact a white powder coated aluminum patio door frame, fitted with laminated safety glass, which our sub-contracting glazier can make to virtually any size :- Before the eagle eyed among you point it out, I wasn't happy with the capping riveted onto the top rail of the shower door frame, so at my request, I'm told the glazier has now sourced a different section that comprises a rectangular box section with 3 blades underneath ( that the doors slide between ) to replace the open topped top rail used in this installation ( with a capping subsequently riveted on ).1 point

Run of hot, sunny weather here and everything has exploded. am dangerously low of stored water, will run out by weeks end.Water is cheap here, but still, would’ve loved to have made it. next year will store more. Hothouse is fucking crazy.3 cantaloupe plants have 20 pieces of fruit on them.Mental. Peas are done.We have four massive zip lock bags of frozen peas in the freezer.More than enough for winter. Chillies are doing well. Mama is a very happy cookie right now. Chillies, beans And tomato’s for Som Tam. Correct basil for Phad Kapao. Thai watermelon, cantaloupe and more cucumbers than even she can possibly eat. My work here is done.1 point
