Evil Penevil
No one expected Chauvin to testify because that would have left him open to a devastating cross examination by the prosecution. He had little or nothing to win. His only hope- and it's a tiny one- is that one or two jurors have reasonable doubt about his guilt. Rioting will probably break out whatever the outcome of the trial, but it would be far worse if there were a hung jury and mistrial. It would be hell for breakfast all across the U.S. if he were found not guilty, but I can't see that happening by any stretch of the imagination. The prosecution had an extremely strong case the defense couldn't refute. Evil
john luke
An interesting analysis. I agree that it was not a surprise that the defendant did not testify. One never knows how a jury will think or react. Will they evaluate the evidence, will they be intimidated by the whole situation, or have they already decided. No one knows. Two concerns from me; firstly in my opinion media reporting has been biased. One example was that one reporter was awaiting the verdict and sentence. Not exactly unbiased. The media have been too ready, in my opinion to link this incident to other incidents, which they should not have done. Secondly the jury have been allowed home at the end of each days business. Whatever instructions they are given, it will take a mighty strong jury to reach a decision purely based on the evidence in court. How many of the jurors know about the carbon monoxide test result which was disclosed too late by the prosecution team? The prosecution must prove all elements of the charge; the defence merely have to raise reasonable doubt as far as one necessary element in each charge. Do the jury realise that? Finally Mr Nelson has a style which is brief and concise; he will speak after the prosecution and prior to the judge. His summing up and how it is perceived will be vital for the case. Potential own goal for the prosecution team is that they make any reference to the carbon monoxide test result and mistrial is declared.
Gary
That cop is toast. The libs want him hung in the public square and sentencing may create riots when they think it is not severe enough.

Just hope a conviction doesn't cause all the T'cult Capitol seditionists (who are still out of jail) to rally 'round the flag pole and take over some state courthouses. They're the USA's biggest danger to the legal system and the police.

Auntie Maxine had to open up her big yap and very well give the defense an opening for an appeal if there is a guilty verdict for her insurrectionist language. Even the damn judge got pissed off about her incendiary remarks and the potential fallout they could result in regarding the trial. Cops all over the country, especially in blue state big cities, are on stand by. This could get ugly and the MSM stands at the ready and would like nothing more than for riots, violence, looting, burning and destruction to happen in America if the wrong verdict is announced. lazarus
^ "Since this was the most ignorant and idiotic post in this thread,..." Thank you Mr. Smooth for your insight on US history. You must have missed the news on January 6, 2021 -- mainstream or otherwise - when 1000s of white nationalist Americans attacked the US Capitol on the urging of the then US president trying to overthrow the results of the election. Many law enforcement officers were injured and several eventually died. Let's hope that they don't decide to act violently once again if white former police officer Chauvin is convicted of murdering a handcuffed black man.
