What are you doing right now..? (Threads Merged)

Nasty weather day here yesterday and not much changed today - even a chance of snow flurries tonight and tomorrow; meanwhile I've been working on changing the tires on my old full-size storage trailer - this thing has been sitting for many years and its dual tires are severely cracked up so I figured I'd best renew them with used rubber from my local neighbourhood tire guy. I'd been warned long ago by a mechanic friend that this particular design of wheel, named "Budd" wheels, can be a bugger to get apart because they use a twin-nut system that can be difficult to dismantle; with that in mind I purchased a  cheap "torque multiplier" from Amazon that arrived in an astounding (for here!) six days and it worked like a charm. Of course both nuts came off together like I'd been told they would so then I had to run around and borrow a special tool to hold the big outer nut while I removed the inner nut - not a lot of fun but I managed to get it done. Surprisingly, the opposite side wheel nuts, which are left-hand thread, came off easily with the torque multiplier - go figure. Look closely and you'll see that this outer wheel came off with all of the nuts still stuck in it, I am simply bracing the wheel against the hub to steady it while I separate inner nut from outer:

Watching BBC News and wondering why one of their main stories is about how they followed an Iranian migrant for a year before he attempted to cross the channel.  £2500 supposedly to give a trafficker, showed him buying a life jacket and mentioned he tried twice to get across the channel. Even showing him having a nice afternoon swimming in the sea, whoopee.  This is the news, has the BBC lost its mind.

The only positive I got from the story was that he decided, that after two tries, it was too dangerous to attempt the voyage again, even saying he had made a bit of a life in France and, so, decided to stay in France...RESULT.

I have a Fedex delivery coming at some point and they don't give a time slot, so having a lazy day until it arrives.

I had a DPD delivery yesterday (Day 2 test kit) and a text to say Muhammed would be at my door betwen 18:50 and 19:50.  Well I saw a DPD van about 1:30pm a few hundred yards from home making a drop off and asked the guy if he was Muhammed and did he have something for my address.  Yes, but he couldn't give it to me because his whereabouts and deliveries are tracked at all times.  Madness.

Pissed me off as I could have had a few more pints in the afternoon if I didn't have to be home for 18:50.

lol.....

Kind of reminds me of some Grab drivers who become discombobulated when you ask them to drop you off before you reach the destination that is locked into the fucking computer.

Doesn’t surprise me. The morning my IPhone was arriving in May, I was leaving for work and spotted a van around my townhouse complex. It wasn’t a UPS truck, but I asked nicely “ do you deliver stuff for UPS” ? She said yes, I politely asked if she had a phone for Eric, it was on the passenger seat! Showed her some ID and had my new phone, saving me at least one day plus a trip to the post office.

I was shocked TBH she gave it to me. She was on a different delivery close by, and had slowed down enough near my car for me to get her attention. So many rules these people have to follow, like Muhammad above, for fear of losing their job. Lucky for me, this time common sense won

Regarding the recent posts on deliveries:-

I've noticed a white pickup driving around delivering parcels to houses around the general area of Pattaya Tai, Arunothai and soi Bongkot ( and maybe beyond!). There is no sign of a tarp, mechanical lid or any sort of protection from the elements. I had a peak inside it when walking passed it yesterday whilst he was on the phone. Some of the parcels didn't seem to have protection from rain either.  Now, I know a thing or two about the recent rain storms, how the f**k does he stop them from getting wet during a sudden downpour or a continual light shower????

I would imagine he has a sheet of some kind inside the truck which can be deployed as and when needed. A sheet with elastic bungies attached can be fitted within seconds.

Being a multi-drop delivery driver is FAR easier when you have easy access to the cargo.

Yes mate, I understand that is the likely solution but I have had 3 pickups here since '97 (2 x Tigers and 1 x Vigo) and the very least I would do was to have it in place but rolled back ready to deploy because doing it by yourself from scratch (i.e. taken from the cab) really doesn't take seconds.

Interestingly, during all that time I never considered the possibility of theft ... but perhaps I had nothing of value in the back worth stealing...!!

I looked at the rates offered and realised a fixed tariff was the best way forward, saw the 2 year deal which was the best by far,

Mine have been fixed tariff for many years. Still in the process of transferring this time but yes, the last 3 times, credit balances have been carried forward.
