It has been a good time to go there previously - maybe only a dozen of us in the store. Today was completely different. Huge line of cars waiting to get a parking space, and about 60 people queueing for the shop. Just got back from M&S and did my final shopping until next week. Sunday just before opening time there must have been over 100 people queuing when I walked past, today I was straight in and out in 15 minutes and did not even have to wait for a till. 1
coxyhog
I bought a new bench press fold up exercise station & it arrived today.Took a couple of hours to decipher the instructions & bolt it together. After that I was too knackered to use it. Edited December 21, 2020 by coxyhog 2

Yes, hit the Tesco superstore in Neath on way back from Heathrow. Did need to queue for about 2 minutes but on entry it was easy to buy all the items on Porn's list plus a few other items I needed. Didn't see any empty shelves.

I hope it stays that way and there is no panic buying. But since it's some fresh produce that might be affected, they would rot very quickly and not sort of thing to stock pile. As long as I can get some Aunt Bessie's yorkshire puddings on Wednesday and some parsnips, I will be happy. Everything else in the freezer I have done sweet FA today and shamefully I am still in my dressing gown 😁

Always early. Christmas is only day I enjoy getting up early since I retired. She was nine when she and a couple of her same age cousins were playing around in the house before Christmas and discovered the stash of wrapped presents in my home office closet. They came charging out yelling "Daddy is Santa" and the cover has been blown, since. EDIT: She says it still feels magical to wake up to the trail of candy, so we still do that. I told my daughter to ask her mum to buy some caramel squares, as Santa loves caramel squares, and she was sure to get loads of presents if she left that for him. When i was a child, to guarantee good presents, it was best to leave out a bottle of vodka or a 6 pack of pilsner in our home 😄

I am seriously thinking of buying a second freezer, top lid type and fill it. There are some great frozen foods out there at very reasonable prices with the same health benefits so might be worth the small investment. When we went into lockdown back in March, all of the freezers in the city were sold out within a few days. I had a broken hinge on the door of my big upright freezer and could not buy one from anywhere at any cost. I ended up repairing it. Then the thermastat in one of my bait chest freezers in the garage packed up. Same thing, all sold out. I wired it to run continuously and purchased a mains switch timer that turned on for a few hours a couple of times each day. That got me by until some normallity returned. I then bought a large chest freezer to replace both bait freezers as they were both very old.

My small freezer has helped me to avoid shopping trips since the pandemic started. I shop at a Business Costco (like Makro in Thailand). Along with veggies I buy commercial size meat cuts and divide them into steaks (I was a meat cutter early in life). I also have a small second fridge for extra beer, eggs, juice, etc. Both fit in a small corner of my garage.

Jambo
Coming to terms with the fact that my month in Pattaya to enjoy Xmas and the New Year festivities is going to be a complete waste of time. All formal festivities cancelled and no "dancing" of any type allowed in bars and clubs. I think I will stay until Christmas and head back on boxing day. I will see what happens in the next 48 hours.

tko
We made a run over to Foodland in Pattaya to get some decent bread. The staff there, from the guy guiding you to parking and throughout the store are wishing a "Merry Christmas." Warms the heart. On the way back we mistakenly followed the new Rayong sign and ended up running down 7 all the way to Sukhumvit near Ban Chang rather than going up to the faster highway 36 route. They didn't charge the toll at the end, and coming in this way let us catch the last hour of the buffet at Old Germany in Maptaphut - after going through all the lights in Ban Chang. I'm going to need to get an Easy Pass. Where do you buy those?

boydeste
Just done the final shop for Xmas, Tesco's was very busy, but everyone was very respectful and patient in keeping their distance and wearing a mask. Many shelves had been cleared of the usual goodies at xmas, but the staff were working hard to replenish. I only needed a few extra treats, so got all that I wanted apart from Twiglets, which were sold out. I substituted them with salted peanuts and cashews. Surprisingly the booze section was fully stocked and I mamaged to buy some Abbot ale and a few bottles of Vintage port, along with mince pies and cheese to quaff with it!

I don't know why Wales should be different but I went to Lidl in Pontardawe (over the mountain from Neath) this morning at about 9.45am. On the radio they were informing us that in England people were queuing around the block at many supermarkets at 0630 am. I expected to see the same queues at my Lidl but got there and the car park was no more busy than usual. No queue at the door, straight in and after about 15 minutes of getting some bread, milk and some last minute items I just walked up to a self service and then out the door. I was just wondering where all this panic was. The shelves were full, nothing except my Winter Ale was missing (pissed off about that but I already have some) so I was rather surprised after what I heard on the radio.
