Health Officials Urge People to Avoid the COVID Hot Spot of Las Vegas: 'You Will Get It and Bring It Back'

Public health officials and state and city leaders in Hawaii, Los Angeles, Chicago and elsewhere are urging their residents not to travel to Las Vegas right now amid a growing surge in the Delta variant and little or no mask mandates at Vegas casinos and restaurants.

"You’re taking a huge risk, and you will very likely catch COVID if you go to Las Vegas," says Hawaii's Lt. Gov. Josh Green, who is also a physician, in a new statement on Twitter to Hawaii's residents. "You’re in restaurants or in a casino where most people are not wearing masks. That’s what’s going to happen. You will definitely catch COVID. Then you’ll come back, you’ll be asymptomatic for a few days, you’ll test positive for COVID, and you’ll give it to your whole family."...

Ah, no. Mr. Levant doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

First off his statement "no flu cases this past year" is incorrect. A simple query of any country's center for disease control can show that is not true. For the US...

And as to to the why. Many sources point to mask wearing and social distancing as the reason flu cases have been low.

What Happened To The Flu?

Of course, the reason for this significant decline in flu is not mysterious. Flu is transmitted in the same way as Covid-19 — through droplets and aerosols generated while breathing and talking, and contaminated surfaces when those droplets land. The use of face masks and social distancing to combat Covid-19 was expected to have a major impact on flu transmission as well. Additionally, many children were not in school, which is a key factor in seasonal flu transmission. Why these interventions stopped flu in its tracks, but not Covid-19, is another matter.

How is this for bad luck.

My daughter Karen runs a children's nursery here in Scotland and is scheduled for her second vaccination in just over a week.

She recently had to go into 10 days isolation after one of the children (very young) she was in very close contact with at the nursery proved positive for Covid.

Her first day back after completing the isolation period was last Friday.

On Sunday evening she gets a phone call advising that one of the staff she had been in close contact with on the Friday had now proved positive for covid so Karen is back on yet another 10 days isolation this week.

We all have our fingers crossed now as my whole family and I spent Sunday together on Silver Sands beach. So far, Karen's daily antigen tests have been negative.

The app is a nightmare.  Most of my friends have uninstalled it and getting on with life after being double jabbed.

Everyone is going to get covid, especially this Delta variant, as long as hospital cases remain low then let's get crack on.

BREAKINGFully-jabbed US and EU travellers to be allowed quarantine-free travel to England

Ministers have decided that fully vaccinated travellers from the US and EU will be allowed to enter England without the need for quarantine, the BBC understands.

The Covid operations committee met this morning and full details of the decision will be released mid-afternoon.

That being the case, I would hope it is reciprocated by the US and EU countries for vaccinated Britons.
