Saturday in a relatively small Marks & Spencer supermarket (they were only letting about 10 people in the shop at time, more of a mini-mart really). A lady pulled a paper off the rack and proceeded to begin reading it, with no intention of buying it. She was at a real bottleneck,  no one could get by, and keep a distance so after about a minute I asked her politely whether I could get to the rack to pick up a paper. to buy it

5 Mins later my basket is packed with non-essentials, and I'm onto the key part of buying the beers. By that time said lady is stood right in front of the beers, making a f****** mobile call.

Think she must have realised from my look of death that moving away from the ale was the way forward😀

In March, the Indonesian government attributed 84 deaths to the coronavirus in Jakarta. But over 1,600 people more than normal were buried in Jakarta cemeteries that month, according to data from the city’s Department of Parks and Cemeteries."

In the last month, far more people died in these countries than in previous years, The New York Times found. The totals include deaths from Covid-19 as well as those from other causes, likely including people who could not be treated as hospitals became overwhelmed.

Note: Excess deaths are estimates that include deaths from Covid-19 and other causes. Reported Covid-19 deaths reflect official coronavirus deaths during the period when all-cause mortality data is available, including figures that were later revised. Istanbul reported deaths include those for all of Turkey.

These numbers undermine the notion that many people who have died from the virus may soon have died anyway. In Paris, more than twice the usual number of people have died each day, far more than the peak of a bad flu season. In New York City, the number has spiked to six times the normal amount.

The city has become the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States. More than 27,000 people have died since the beginning of March — 20,900 more than normal, and 4,200 more than have been captured by official death statistics.

Of course, mortality data in the middle of a pandemic is not perfect. The disparities between the official death counts and the total rise in deaths most likely reflect limited testing for the virus, rather than intentional undercounting. Officially, about 200,000 people have died worldwide of the coronavirus as of Monday.

But the total death numbers offer a more complete portrait of the pandemic, researchers say, especially because most countries report only those Covid-19 deaths that occur in hospitals.

“Whatever number is reported on a given day is going to be a gross underestimate,” said Tim Riffe, a demographer at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Germany. “In a lot of places the pandemic has been going on for long enough that there has been sufficient time for late death registrations to come in, giving us a more accurate picture of what the mortality really was.”

What do we know about that vaccine trial fake news?

A fake news article circulated on social media, claiming that the first volunteer taking in a coronavirus vaccine trial in Oxford had died. She is alive and well – as BBC medical correspondent Fergus Walsh confirmed when he spoke to her on Skype.

The false claim seems to have originated in an article shared on a site with both genuine and fake global news stories. It was set up in March and registered in the US, but there’s very little information about who’s behind it.

Most articles are written by a mysterious character who is hard to find on social media. We’ve decided not to use their name or the site's at the risk of amplifying false information. The articles have been pushed out by a Facebook account, which has no information but a name.

BBC News has contacted the account, but had no response. This specific fake news story was re-shared in big Facebook groups which oppose vaccinations – or support conspiracy theories. BBC Monitoring's Shayan Saradarizadeh said: “In less than 48 hours, the fake story has been posted to a potential audience of millions. And it continues to spread – despite debunks and posts being removed.”

If that's the case, which I've no reason to doubt BTW, it's about time they were utilised. Help the normal hospitals by taking out covid patients unlikely to get worse or whose care can be easily managed. Thus giving the NHS a much deserved break to concentrate on those poor folks who are to frightened to get their cancer treatments etc etc. 

It strikes me that the A&E departments are at least 50% less busy than normal aswell.... Maybe all the piss heads (hangover types only) , hypochondriacs and scum drug addicts just realised what's happening in the world right now and have grown a conscience. But I doubt it somehow. They would just rather continue doing what they do away from hospitals hoping they don't add covid to their already sad life's.

I am not so sure about that ...

Personally, I think the deaths are way over reported ... anyone who has died because of ANY ( heart attack, shootings, etc. ) REASON are being listed as a Wuhan virus death in the US ...

I also read somewhere and I cannot find it ... that the FEDS were reimbursing the States 12K for each Wuhan virus death ... if this is true ... NY is taking the Federal government to the cleaners ... which wouldn't surprise me one bit ...

I am sure that a lot of various deaths are attributed to the Corona thing.

And yep, I read also about this higher reimbursement for Corona deaths in the US. 

Hence, I repeat for the 100th time, only the global death count variations with same period (week /month) of previous years is a reliable indicator.

I doubt that any 1st world country burries 1000's of deaths incognito at night in mass graves....

Population demographics are closely followed in any decent country.
