Thailand isn't the only country with people in need of food assistance. When searching on the subject came across this article. Of course it being America, no lines of people, but long lines of people in cars. From a social distancing standpoint it makes sense as it's better than standing out in the open in line with a mass of other people.

So Boris is back 'to work' on Monday.

Hopefully we'll get some sort of clarity, at least a plan, if not concrete timescales for no doubt a phased exiting of lockdown.

Though early rumours are he's gonna to be very cautious about it.

I think the "three week review" is due this week?  I would expect he'll offer something up then.

You don't know anymore what's most worrying .... A "president" telling this shit or the company feeling the necessity to make a disclaimer.......

I mean, is there really anybody out there who would try it ?

if yes, sorry, but let them do. I can only improve the average of humanity's IQ by elimination.

The rest of my thoughts belong in the WTF thread .....hahaha

Sure, lots of folks will believe &/or do just about anything that Trump tells them.

States see spike in poison control calls following Trump's comments on injecting disinfectant

"...In New York City, the Daily News reported that the Poison Control Center saw 30 cases of “exposure to Lysol, bleach & other cleaners in 18 hours after Trump’s suggestion” that cleaning products might be used to treat coronavirus. NYC Poison Control saw only 13 such cases in a similar period last year..."

Dozens of pastors across the Bible Belt have succumbed to coronavirus after churches and televangelists played down the pandemic and actively encouraged churchgoers to flout self-distancing guidelines.

As many as 30 church leaders from the nation’s largest African American Pentecostal denomination have now been confirmed to have died in the outbreak, as members defied public health warnings to avoid large gatherings to prevent transmitting the virus.

Deaths across the US in areas where the Church of God in Christ has a presence have reportedly stemmed from funerals and other meetings among clergy and other church staff held during the pandemic.

The tragedy among one of the largest black Pentecostal groups follows a message of defiance from many American churches, particularly conservative Christian groups, to ignore state and local government mandates against group gatherings, with police increasingly called in to enforce the bans and hold preachers accountable.

The virus has had a wildly disproportionate impact among black congregations, many of which have relied on group worship.

Yet despite the climbing death toll, many US church leaders throughout the Bible Belt have not only continued to hold services but have urged worshippers to continue paying tithes — including recent stimulus checks — to support their mission.

Bishop Gerald Glenn, founder and leader since 1995 of the New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Chesterfield, Virginia, was the first black chaplain of the town’s police. He had vowed to continue preaching “unless I’m in jail or the hospital” before his death from coronavirus earlier this month.

GLOBAL DEATHS IN FRANCE – UPDATE 13/04/2020

So, a quick update on last week figures :

Again, remember my point of view :

-        Only global death rate variation with previous years is a reliable indicator

-        It is also the only one that gives a proper comparison base between country (brought in %). You can’t use the Corona death numbers as each country has a different way of counting them.

-        Those number are just a start for further analyse work to have a fair idea of the impact of Corona in the global numbers.

1)    Evolution comparison 2019 / 2020 of global deaths per department updated at 13/4.

We can see compared to last week a few changes in the “low or zero increase” departments, but the red “hot zones” remain globally same.

Note : The “islands” on the left of the map are the overseas territories.

Image 8.jpg

2)     Updated list of cumulated deaths (all France) 3 colums : 2020 / 2019 / 2018

Look at the 13/04 point :

               2020 : 93.839  /  2019 : 75.100  /  2018 : 83.108

So, an increase of 18.739 vs 2019, but “only” of 10.700 vs 2018

This shows that further analyses will be needed to explain this. Could be a very bad flu season in 2018, and

“mild” one in 2019. Could also be impacts from other events.

Deces list 200413.jpg

3)     Evolution per age sector, and sex of cumulated deaths for the period 01/03 to 13/04  2020 vs 2019

You can clearly see the age risk with a big evolution is 65+, and men are more at risk than women.  Again the man / woman thing should be compared with the demographics in this age range.

Evol desces 200413.jpg

Note from the INSEE concerning the age range (translated by Google) :

"efore age 65, mortality is very close in 2019 and 2020 (6% more deaths in the period in 2020 compared to 2019) with different trends according to age groups: mortality decreases by 19% among under-25s, probably due to containment measures that can affect other causes of death including accidental; it is stable between the age of 25 and 49 and increases by 10% between the age of 50 and 64.

Secondly, the increase in the number of deaths is all the greater as the age increases: it is 22% between 65 and 74 years and 30% above, but no difference between the 75 to 84 years and the over 85 years.

This increase in mortality in 2020 at higher ages is particularly noticeable in the regions most affected by the epidemic (Isle-de-France; Grand-Est, Burgundy-Franche-Comté and Hauts-de-France). On the other hand, the number of deaths of young people under the age of 25 is also lower than in other regions than in the same period in 2019. On the other hand, in the two most affected regions, the Ile-de-France and the Greater East, there is a higher number of deaths compared to 2019 even between 25 and 49 years: this excess is 26% in the Ile-de-France and 18% in the Greater East. However, it is much lower than the over-75s, which is in the order of 100% in the Ile-de-France and 70% in the Greater East."

End note : I have always been a great fan of data analysis, charts, spreadsheets and have been a great user during my working years (stock management, cost management, equipment running cost management)

But I am retired, and I am not going to spend hours every day to do research work now. Although this would be a very interesting one !

at the bottom of the page they have some great, very complete spreadsheets for download

Edit : I prepared this on Word and copied, but it seems bullet point have been lost in the copying process ....  Grrrrrrrr

They would apply to British citizens and those from abroad.

They will require returnees to fill in a special landing card giving information about their health and details about where they intend to quarantine.

Hefty fines will be slapped on arrivals who fail to stay at the address given.

Very difficult for those with jobs to fly under these sort of restrictions.

Sweden: Pandemic is 'marathon, not a sprint'

Sweden has been more relaxed than many other countries in the restrictions it has brought in.

Deputy Prime Minister Isabella Lovin has been on the BBC's Andrew Marr programme.

She told him the pandemic was a “marathon and not a sprint”.

And she said it was a “great myth” that Sweden hasn’t taken serious steps to try and address the pandemic.

The country has limited gatherings to 50 people and banned people from visiting nursing homes.

Sweden has a higher death rate than neighbouring Scandinavian countries. More than 2,000 people have died compared with 193 in Norway.

She said: “I think every country needs to take its own measures but it’s a real fear that if you have too harsh measures, then they can’t be sustained all the time, maybe you can get a counter reaction and people will not respect the recommendations that need to be there for a really long time until we have a vaccine and until the pandemic has an end.

“We don’t want to fatigue the situation,” she added.

This is what an official state-level emergency order looks like in the U.S.  Face masks will be mandatory in public from April 28th in all situations where social distancing of at least six feet isn't always possible.  If you're out walking your dog or jogging, you don't have to wear a mask, but should you step indoors in any facility (supermarket, gas station,  doctor's office, pharmacy, government office, etc.), it's compulsory to wear a mask.

From what I have seen on my two most recent excursions outside my niece's house (both to supermarkets),  about 90% of the people were wearing masks.  However, those trips were during off-hours (between 6.00 and 7.00 a.m., then between 8.00 and 9.00 p.m.) when few people were out and about.  My niece went out alone yesterday (Saturday) during the afternoon to a supermarket and pharmacy and said the majority of customers weren't wearing masks.

Delaware800.jpg.53f3533a70424f01f95741411d1cf61c.jpg

Here's the relevant part of the declaration (my highlights in red):

NOW THEREFORE, I, JOHN C. CARNEY, pursuant to Title 20, Chapter 31 of the Delaware Code, in an effort to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the State of Delaware, do hereby order that the COVID-19 State of Emergency declaration, as modified by the First through Twelfth Modifications and extended on April 10, 2020, shall remain in effect until further notice, with the following modifications and additions, effective April 28, 2020 at 8 a.m. E.D.T.:

1. For purposes of this Order, a “face covering” means a soft cloth or fabric covering that fully covers a person’s nose and mouth, not a medical-grade mask. The term “face covering” includes, without limitation, scarves and bandanas. The face covering should be comfortable, so that the wearer can breathe comfortably through the nose and does not have to adjust it frequently, so as to avoid touching the face. A “medical-grade mask” means an N95, KN95, surgical, or other mask that would be appropriate for a health care setting. For as long as medical grade masks such as N95 masks and surgical masks are in short supply, members of the public should not purchase those masks as face coverings under this Order; those medical grade masks should be reserved for health care providers and first responders. Wearing a medical-grade mask satisfies any requirement in this Order to wear a face covering, but all Delawareans are urged to reserve medical-grade masks for use by health care workers and first responders.

2. Any child aged two years or less must not wear a face covering because of the risk of suffocation. This Order does not require that any child aged twelve years or less wear a face covering. Parents and caregivers must supervise use of face coverings by children to avoid misuse.

3. All individuals must wear a face covering, except where doing so would inhibit that individual’s health or where the individual is under two years of age, while in the following places:

a. when they are a rider on public transportation, or a paratransit vehicle, taxi, private car service or ride-sharing vehicle;
b. when they are a customer of any business, including, but not limited to, grocery stores, convenience stores, supermarkets, laundromats, and restaurants, both inside the business and when waiting in line outside;
c. when they are obtaining services at any healthcare provider, including, but not limited to, hospitals, medical clinics and offices, special care facilities, medical laboratories, dentists, pharmacies, blood banks and blood drives, or facilities providing veterinary care and similar healthcare services for animals—unless directed otherwise by the healthcare provider;
d. when they are in an outdoor public area, including state parks and golf courses, if maintaining social distancing of six (6) feet between individuals of different households is impracticable; or
e. when they are in any public area and are feeling sick, coughing, or sneezing.

4. All businesses are required to do the following no later than May 1, 2020 at 8:00 a.m.: provide employees with a face covering to wear while working in areas open to the general public and areas in which coming within 6 feet of other staff are likely. Similarly, all restaurants shall require, no later than May 1, 2020 at 8:00 a.m., that all employees who interact with customers (including, without limitation, delivery personnel) to wear a face covering while working. Businesses must provide, at their expense, such face coverings as well as hand sanitizer for their employees. All employees are strongly encouraged to fashion personal face coverings per the CDC guidelines referenced in paragraph 8, below, until their employer provides a face covering pursuant to this paragraph.

5. If a customer refuses to wear a face covering for non-medical reasons and if such covering cannot be provided to the individual by the business at the point of entry, then the business must decline entry to the individual, unless the business is providing medication, medical supplies, or food, in which case the business policy should provide alternate methods of pickup and/or delivery of such goods (e.g. bringing the medication to the customer in a parking lot). If an individual declines to wear a face covering on store premises due to a medical condition that inhibits such usage, neither the essential retail business nor its staff shall require the individual to produce medical documentation verifying the stated condition.

6. Businesses shall take steps to remind customers to wear face coverings by (a) posting the requirement at the entrance of the business, and (b) posting clearly visible signs inside the store to remind customers of the requirement to wear the face covering at all times when in the business.

7. Single-use face coverings shall be properly discarded in trash receptacles. It is recommended that all reusable face coverings be cleaned frequently (at least once per day).

8. A video showing how to make a face covering and additional information about how to wear and clean face coverings may be found at the website of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html.

9. This Order has the force and effect of law. Any failure to comply with the provisions contained in a Declaration of a State of Emergency or any modification to a Declaration of the State of Emergency constitutes a criminal offense. 20 Del. C. §§ 3115 (b); 3116 (9); 3122; and 3125. State and local law enforcement agencies are authorized to enforce the provisions of any Declaration of a State of Emergency.

APPROVED this 25th day of April 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

John C. Carney
Governor
