RIP.

Kind of weird really as only yesterday I was showing a Swedish friend of mine " love thy neighbour" on you tube.

He loved it but couldn't believe that it was allowed on TV!

Does look bad now, but back then that was just normal talk. Quite embarrassing to think we didn't see anything wrong with it. Looking at it now you realise how difficult times were for black and Asian people back then.

Rip Jack.

My great hero Luther Blissett posted this on FB today:

You may be surprised to learn this but when Love they Neighbour was on tv I sat with my family and we laughed.
We recognised it was comedy, not malicious, reflecting life at that time and satirising the way some people behaved. Showing uncomfortable stereotypes and behaviour. On both sides.

Luther Blissett massive cult hero in Italian football .... Milan....??.. watched an episode on YouTube recently and was jaw dropping in its language but had a hilarious ending about ghosts and witchcraft. Usually the white guy as the stooge and fool. Can't quite see Channel 4 or BBC 2 bringing it back any time soon ....

In 1983 we sold him to AC Milan for £1m then a year later bought him back for half of that, excellent business by Graham Taylor.

RIP Gary Brooker. In a decade of iconic songs A Whiter Shade of Pale is up there among the immortal legends of 1960's music.

I always liked his 2006 performance in Denmark.

Actress Anna Karen, famous for playing Olive in On The Buses, has died aged 85.

Loved that programme as a kid. Can't beat the old British comedy's.

RIP

RIP. Remember her well from watching On the Buses as a kid. That is pretty much the whole cast passed away now.

Very sad indeed, brought back memories of that great song.

My next door neighbour Bill Eyden played the drums on the recording of Whiter Shade Of Pale, got 15 guineas for the session but no royalties. This was many years ago when I was a nipper when I used to play outside with his son. His son sadly died in a motorbike accident aged 17, he needed blood but his mother, a Jehovah witness, refused and he died.

Bill and his wife occasionally baby sat for me and my brother when my mother was at work..

My first job when I left school was working for House of Fraser in Liverpool as a commis chef, we had a beautiful restaurant on the 4th floor with  a la carte and table d`hote menus that was very popular with celebrities. I still vividly remember the day the whole cast came and ate with us back in 1973. Nina was a stunning looking bird. RIP Jack.

I met him once after he'd played for Newcastle at Leicester. I stood and watched him make time and talk with a young lad who seemed over the moon that this superstar had made the time to talk with him. I waited until he'd finished talking and then went and asked him for his autograph, he gave me that and then we had a quick chat and Rob Andrew came and dragged him away as the team coach was leaving.

The man came across as an absolute Gentleman and he's always been a firm favourite of mine.

RIP Inga.

Very sad, an excellent cross code player. Enjoyed watching him play his barnstorming style of play and your story is very touching.
